  • tribute to the gods indeed

  • the only cover that was slightly better than this one was machine heads. but shit this, MH's and maiden's all kick major ass

  • Iron Maiden ftw!

  • Ok, let me start by saying that without Maiden, obviously covers like this would not have been possible. I have to give it up to Maiden for the innovation of such a great song, and if anything they laid down the blueprints for other bands to retrace.

That being said, I do have to say that while Maiden invented this classic, Iced Earth perfected it.

Of all the versions I've heard, this is the one that keeps me coming back.

  • His singing is a bit strange in the beginning but I have to give it to them... of all the bands that have done this song (including the master creators - Iron Maiden) their transition from the acoustic sounding music at the start into the electric guitar playing was the best I've heard. Love it!!

  • not so impressive.....

  • Are there any (good) bands that HAVEN'T covered this?

  • @irllcd13 dragonforce

  • @Miketyson66666 ....nooooooooooooooooooooo... dragonland way better...

  • @Miketyson66666 nooo...DRAGONLAND way better...

  • Think Iced Earth nailed it. After all, this band is known to have been heavily influenced by Maiden...

  • Well done, I am Sir William and I approve this Cover!

  • this song gives me goosebumps!

  • i cant tell which cover is the best but i see that this song inspire lot of artist UP THE IRONS!!

  • machinehead's cover rivals iron maiden's, this one not soo much

  • @666Kazekage666 well said, imo i think Machine Head's version adds a certain somthing that i believe was missing from the original

  • @666Kazekage666 but i also agree with Machine Heads cover being better than this one

  • Im not feeling the solo!!! :(

  • I've heard this cover a lot earlier than the original and it's still better to me. Matter of taste :)

  • if it aint maidens then it has to be machineheads. dont like this! o_O

  • The best cover i heard from this materpiece song!

  • lolz.... not better than maden.., though i dont really like it from maiden... i rly like it from machine head... BUT i thank maiden for creating it ;)

  • IRON MAIDEN RULEZ....

  • At least this is way better than cradle of filth cover. I enjoy this cover. it sounds pretty good

  • Rather than saying which version is my favorite, I just find it amazing how Maiden inspired so many different metal bands. From the Machine Head, Iced Earth and Cradle of filth to countless other bands. Maiden rules!!!

  • @15viceandvirtues screamo bands are not metal bands

so dont insult metal and say they are

  • @halfNERD17 It's metalcore. Look up SYLOSIS. They're really good.

  • @jjcowan29 no, like cradle of filth

  • i don't know who this drake69 is but obvisously he doesn't know much about music or anything about vocalist there's nothing flat about any of iced earth's vocalist that they ever had! better know more about what your talking about before you say anything that you don't know about...

  • Ripper Owens blows Matt Barlow away...no contest..

  • The vocalist sucks...sounds like he's struggling bad...sounds flat

  • @drakke69. Dude listen to some of Iced Earth's stuff. Matt Barlow is amazing.

  • @drakke69 that is just how he sings

  • i prefer maiden but nice cover \m/

  • No doubt the best cover of this song out there.

  • I think i prefer Maidens original, and cradle of filth`s

  • Machine Head cover is better than this and the original too.

  • @Cainoish I'm sorry mate but it's impossible a cover can be better than the original! You may say anything you want about Bruce Dickinson but you may never insult him: who is he? He's Bruce got damn it!

  • cradle of filth does it better.

  • meh.

  • not bad

  • K bien es tener muchos mexicanos aqui jajaja

    \m/

  • 5:48 - 6:24 made me basically poop

  • One of the best covers I have heard still think the original is better.

  • Great cover of this song

  • Anyone else agrees that this one is better than the original song? :D

  • @xNejje No f-ing way, but it's pretty good

  • @alexnadeau22 You've gone mad.

  • @xNejje Because I have an opinion?

  • @xNejje that isnt possible.....Iron Maiden - Hallowed Be Thy Name . is the greatest metal song ever created

  • what is that clang sound its the only thing i don't like about this song

  • He kind of reminds me of Bullwinkle...

  • The best cover of this song i ve heard is for sure this one...

  • Iced Earth u rule thank god u didnt go to death metal , U guys can actually sing good job my favorite band.

  • Just sayin, this is the song that made me give ip from believing in god: if there is a god why does he let me die?

    really why the fuck?!

  • Fuck, my laptop can't go louder.

does anyone knows how to make it more louder?

  • @Martin997081 wear a headphone?

  • @FahadOrfali1993 yes, i want them to go louder or the main laptop sound to go louder

  • in my opinion, iron maiden version is better. but its close.

  • Kick ASS! Tribute . Whould be kind of cool to see Maiden and Iced Earth Tour together and do this song live.

  • @Msmuerth that would be godlike man

  • Awesome tribute to the Maidens! Barlow rulez, ICED RULEZ :D

  • WTF I can't go past 0:45

  • @xXxDarkAdeptusxXx something's wrong wit yur computer :(

  • @xXxDarkAdeptusxXx Can't go past 0:45? Try emptying your Recycle Bin or if you're on a Mac, do the equivalent. You're most likely out of hard drive space and youtube can't save the video data in your temp folder.

  • @xXxDarkAdeptusxXx press "R" button to use the sands of time lol

  • @xXxDarkAdeptusxXx clean your cash and make some space on HDD ;)

  • nicely done... your tribute will not be in waste!!!

  • by far the best cover I've heard from them.

  • lol towards the end, he sounds a bit liek a heavy Paul Stainley xD but still awesome!! :D

  • sweet mod on the cover art.

  • @EdwardsTGeese666 thank you sir

  • I do not like to compare bands, but some stupid comments from ignorant people make me to do so. WAKE UP.... ICED EARTH is just a band...MAIDEN are GODS...Bruce,Steve,Nicko and their mates are eating Iced Earth for breakfast any time..ANYTIME, Earth do the covers not Maiden

  • @Sermonized747 both god but yeah iron maiden is a bit better

  • @lorenzo152857

    true...better vocals

  • @Sermonized747 Maiden does covers of bands too..... of their influences just as Iced Earth does covers of their influences mainly Maiden. That was a childish thing to say. hahaha.

  • Lol I'm not saying it's bad to do covers...covers is a good thing...and if you do a Maiden cover, that's even better,but...ahem....do you know what album we re talking about here? It's Number Of The Beast for God's sake, you just can't do it better

  • @Sermonized747 True its just how you said it.

  • Iced Earth should do a Tribute to The Gods Part II

    it would be great

  • Probably the best hollowed be thy name cover. P.S not a fan of cradle of filth's cover i cant understand anything in there cover.

  • @megashawn100 The only cover better than this one is Machine Heads version

  • I take a look through the balls..? Really, Matt...

  • No.

  • Doesn't compare to Maiden. Their live version from Hammersmith was monumental.

  • ehh it's decent. it might be the best cover of the song, but it's still nowhere near the caliber of the original. this song should really be kept alone. like 10 bands have covered it and there hasn't been one that i feel has been worth having on my ipod.

  • @crazybaseballdude12 machinehead cover? brilliant cover

  • @chopperharris100

haven't heard it. i'm sure it's good though. still none will ever come close to the original.

  • @crazybaseballdude12 i used to think that but it is right up there i mean original is the best still but machine head cover is alot better than the others ive seen

  • remember that iron maidan was during 70z 80s type thing so they didint come out with the complex guitair riffs .

  • People say "this sounds better and guitars are heavier" :D There is over 20 years between the original and this, so of course it sounds "heavier". Iced Earth is very good band and Barlow is an amazing vocalist, but there is nobody, and i mean NOBODY who could do Maiden songs better than Maiden.

  • @teeseeKoo true words here and i dont think there is that much of a change on guitar

  • i love Iced Earth but this song is freakin awesome by Cradle of Filth!

  • metalbeaner? jaja and then we get mad cause some people use racist terms against us

  • @SidEskorbuto lol personally, i dont mind :)

  • @metalbeaner09 i see that lol

  • @SidEskorbuto "the power behind racial slurs comes form those who are offended by them"- Me

  • the original was in the 80s it was for the 80s. this ones from like 2000 so its as good for different reasons.

  • Being fans of both bands I don't think this holds the candle to the original. Sounds like something is missing to me. Everything is done well and good but it just comes across as a little mechanical and spiritless. Oh well its still one of the best metal songs ever composed.

  • I dont know how you can say this guy has a better voice than bruce.Bruce is way better

  • @mansk8dude I know! Barlow has a good voice but sometimes he sounds like he's trying too hard to put emotion in his singing and it makes him sound kind of superficial and comical. Where Bruce is more natural. Although Bruce can't sing like he use too anymore presumably because of his age.

  • both versions are good!!!!!

i prefer the original but this one is pretty cool!!!!

    stop arguing about that!!!

  • Barlows voice is better than Dickinson,s COF guitars are better than iced earths, maidens drummer and guitars are better than both of them.

  • IRON MAIDEN RULEZZZZ....UP THE IRONS...BRUCE DICKINSON IS BETTER THAN BARLOW

  • @SUBZERO4914

Down rating you, not that I necessarily disagree with you... cause I'm actually kinda torn between the two, but because you looked like a moron whilst posting that message.

  • to be honest i believe that barlow's voice is one of the really fuckin best around ...

  • this is better cover than the Cof's... but not cover is better than the original, and if that could happen, this is not the case...

  • They certainly did this classic justice. Favorite Maiden song of all time, and this has to be my favorite cover. Kudos, up the Irons, and Ices. xD

    \,,\ d(>.<)b /,,/

  • @ThrashTillYouCrash If you think this is a good cover, then you're right. However anyone who thinks CoF's cover is good at all is retarded

  • @SweetOdinsRavens Agreed, 69,000 times over.

  • Fuck, I can't decide whether I like the original more or not!

  • I feel this is the superior version when compared to the original. The heavier, bass sound fits the dark undertone of the song better than the original sound. I love Maiden as much as anyone who likes good music is required to, but in this one case, someone did it better. No shame in that.

  • Better than Cradles cover

  • His bass vocals make an interesting and goods cover, but I still prefer the original (I love Bruce deep and powerful voice!). But of course this is maybe the best cover I heard

  • nothing could be compare to the original but I like this cover it is very well done kudos to them

  • i have to admit that i like this version better...the bass vocals of Barlow match better with riffs to me...and he can reach high too... the guitars have a fuller and rounder sound...but that's just for me...

  • I love Iced Earth, but I don't think the vocals here are up to scratch. If Schaffer has done this with Demons on Wizards, it would truly have been amazing and a fitting tribute to the original.

  • i like the iron maiden version, XD

  • 1:15 \m/

  • Iced Earth kicks ass fuck faces

  • i like the heavy guitar more on this version :)

  • i m an iron fan, one of my favorite bands, but this i think this cover is better than original

  • tribute accepted but Maiden sound's much better

  • Im not a big fan of em (A question of heaven is... well plain amazing)

But this cover is way better than DTs atleast.

  • IMO Iron Maiden is Better But Iced shouldnt do covers ....

  • Iced Earth did a great cover of the song, but I hate it when people think Iced Earth created the song.

  • Amazing cover, a job WELL done. Cemetery Gates by Pantera and Hallowed be Thy Name by Iron Maiden are the two songs that got me into metal...and now I'm hooked! I have heard ALOT of covers....all of which sucked ass. This is a nice change, Good work Iced Earth!

  • im going to just be honest and say this sounds better to me than Iron maidens version. His voice is alot more powerfull and less "winded" sounding. And obviously the guitars are a bit more into the song, than being bass driven as said below. just my .02

  • @CycleSeth deff agree man

  • @CycleSeth You're brave typing that, mate XD

  • @CycleSeth i totally agree...

  • @CycleSeth hahaha better than maidens version?? haha ok ok ok

  • @TheNotrap Barlow does have much better phrasing and diction throughout...

  • @CycleSeth Im going to be honest and say that you know nothing about Heavy

  • @CycleSeth a cover can be a good then. like an ode to the band ;)

  • @CycleSeth i don't agree , nothing can beat maiden, not in their own songs. but this is probaly the best cover of hallowed be thy name i've ever heard.

  • @CycleSeth

it's your opinion... but I must say, no way this voice is better then God's.. errr I mean Bruce ;)

  • @CycleSeth The songs are supposed to be bass driven, Steve writes the songs mostly around the bass and drums.

  • this song is the best ever

  • Great cover. This is a more guitar driven version than Maiden. Iron Maiden is a bass guitar driven band. Iced Earth and Judas Priest are more guitar driven with bass guitar in the background. Maybe because Maiden is lead by a bass player, Iced and Judas instead by guitarists.

  • comment fail....

  • @metalbeaner09 LOLOLOL

  • @metalbeaner09 ahahahahha :DDDDDDD

  • This version isn't pointless IMO. Iced made this song sound a lot more guitar driven comparing to the original which is more bass sounding. Maiden original is better of course but this is a very nice version.

  • it is the only the iron maiden cover which can becompared wit the original!

  • @YngwieBlackStar rofl. Iron maiden made a cover of their own song? That's pretty epic of them

  • @wolfdude88foster: Hooray for misunderstanding sentences and attempting to belittle the speaker!

You, sir, win +1 Internets for your stupidity.

  • @CallingCrowe I misunderstood? I'm sorry to YngwieBlackStar then.

  • Metal will never die especially this one,

one of my favourite songs!! Covered Perfectly!!

  • Iced Earth is so amazing! Jon Schaffer is far to underrated in the metal guitar word. i like his playing more than most everyones!

  • these guys are good

  • Yeah, that's why Iced Earth's version of Hallowed be Thy Name was Made as an inspiraion nonetheless by Cradle...but niwayz thanks for the info...Love those other bands that you mentioned too, esp. Black Sabbath...Peace!...

  • ICED EARTH rocks!!!!!!...no wonder they were immortalized by Cradle of Filth...Amen...

  • umm... actually, iced earth is much more sucessful than Cradle of Filth and they came first. also, this is not an Iced Earth song, it is a cover of Iron Maiden, one of the big 3 metal bands (Sabbath, Priest, Maiden).

  • immortalized is to make immortal so Cradle of filth was like paying homage or some such is what I think TheDreadhead81 means. Plus where is megadeth and metallica on your list of metal bands there bigger than Priest, at least around where I live anyway.

  • Comment removed

  • no no my friend. Priest, Maiden and Sabbath are referred to as the big 3 of heavy metal in general as they essentially created and defined the genre. metallica, megadeth, anthrax and slayer make up the big 4 of thrash metal. and i know what immortalized means... and i know that cradle of filth was paying homage, but there is no way that a smaller band like cradle could "immortalize" iced earth... nor do i think that iced earth will truly ever be immortal like bands such as Maiden.

  • ah, I see before you did not mention what type of metal you just stated metal I sorry if you though me ignorant just around here metal is very unpopular so it is all just put in one classifacation, sometimes rock and metal are put together by all of the country fans, and i agree Maiden is more immortal than Iced Earth.

  • One of the best songs I've heard lately

  • GREAT Song!!

    Nice IE!

  • orale haha
