  • Brilliant collection of images! Superb tune!

  • For all of their faults, the actors in this video gave us all something to dream about -- even the most obscure actors/actresses. The same can be said for all of the directors in Hollywood. They all helped to create and shape American culture; just as surely as famous American authors and painters. Heaven love 'em all.

  • this song is one of the reasons I consider the kinks to be one of my all-time favorites

  • One of the greatest tracks of all time

  • IMO this is the superior version, but I'm not sure what it's from. It's not the original album version which to me sounds sterile & cold (for God's sake, that version uses a FRONT beat, which is ok for Nashville or Vegas, but not Ray Davies!)

This is much warmer, but it's not a live performance. And it's very sloppy, with many stumbled notes, particularly on piano. It's almost like a home-studio-made demo where Ray played most of the parts himself (even squeezebox & tuba?!) Anyone know?

  • 2:38 to 3:08 tops....case u listinen ;lol

  • Amazing. Forgot how much I loved this song. Thanks for the images...

  • thanks for posting fist...this is one of those that make you cry every time...and wonder why its not in the top 50.....sheesh.....after all these years....so beautiful

  • If you covered him with garbage, George Sanders would still have style.

Great line!! from a great song. One of my top ten of all time.

  • You know.....

  • A real masterpiece ! Music as well as lyrics ... If you compare this with f.i. Justin Bieber and his rubbish...

  • Hollywood Movie Stars Never Die They Allways Livin on Big Sceen & we Still Love them Good Job on vid Sir.....

  • @Donijr

    I believe thats Greta Garbo.

  • never really die

  • I sing this song everytime an actres or actor passes away.

  • Don't bark and Georgie Harrison, all he wanted for us was love....Don't step on dearest Michael, fear and the whip wern't to far, as he never really found himself, yet we hung him amongst the stars....And with a smile and lots of cheescake, Farrah stunned us with angel's charms, but she really was much more than blonde hair, walking Hollywood Blvd.....

  • the best one on utube thanks!!!!

  • i

    am c ellulooid god

  • Thanks. I watched 2 or 3 others and they all cut out the verse starting "If you covered him in garbage/George Sanders would still have style..." That's my favouriteline in the wholesong.

  • the others are from the To the Bone cd which is not as complete

  • Ray outdid himself with this one. As beautiful as the melody is, you could simply read the lyrics and be equally moved.

  • Great bitter sweet song. You did it justice. thanks

  • Bogart is taking a peak,I would to. sitting between beautiful ladies rolling a joint.peace pojhvcxz

  • Errol Flynn, Greta Garbo, Ava Gardner among the greatest stars

  • Marilyn Monroe, was the sexy woman in the 20Th. century.I still love her. she can still make my heart beat fast what a beauty, goodbye Norma Jean Baker. love&peace pojhvcxz

  • What about Gloria Swanson? She was one of the biggest stars of all time. She was the highest paid actress of the 1920's, even more than Garbo.

  • Absolutely appalling! No James Cagney!!!!

(I suppose it's inevitable that you'd miss someone though!)

  • Yeah, you're right, that is a great miss! But I couldn't get all the galaxy in just six minutes!

  • This is a great song. The phrase "I want to be

alone"actually comes from Garbo's movie 'Grand Hotel'.That is an excellent movie,if you

    ever get a chance,watch it.That movie created

the whole multi-character,multi-story genre. Garbo was such a unique talent and beauty. I love old movies!

  • Superb song. Ray Davies a genius.

  • "Great vid!! Anyone know who the actress is at 2:46 to 2:49? The don't make 'em like that anymore..... "
