I think that the photo used for Helmuth Koinigg was incorrect. That looked like the vehicle of Francois Cervert. Konigg 's car went underneath a guard rail and he was decapatated.
jim clark perished in a f2 incident april of 1968 at hockenheim germany. not an f1 incident!!! jimmy is one of my favorite all time drivers of f1 though!! (and should be of everyone!)
yes my assumption would be down to the fact that jim clark did not die in a formula 1 race he died in a formula 2 race. So whilst he is one of the legendary drivers of f1 to have a premature end, he wasnt killed in f1
i remeber watching the video of david purley trying to save roger wiliamson and i started crying knowing that he had to watch his friend die and there was nothing he could do to help :( apperently he heard roger shouting "get me out" :'(
Thank you for a very moving tribute. Special thanks for including the hero David Purley. I would have preferred more smiling photos of the drivers rather than the crash scenes as I would rather remember how they lived and not how they died. That's another video altogether. There's always one who complains!!!! Sorry, it's really an excellent compilation.
STEWARTROCKS20 : Thank you for be true. You understand F1 fans´s pain when some driver (not only in F1 category) die. I´m from Brazil and still cry for know that Ayrton Senna (R.I.P) will never be in a new season. Thanks :-(
Look up the senna files website. it has all the evidence from the court case and full explanation. In brief it is believed the steering rod snapped so Senna was unable to take the corner. The impact broke off a wheel and suspension strut pierced Sennas helmet causing his injuries and his sad death.
It's explained in Senna's autobio that that the actual cause of death was due to a part of the suspension coming of the wheel once the car had hit the wall and then becoming traped between the car and wall. This bit of suspention piced Ayrton's Helmet and penertrated his head just above the right eye. Although, amazing as it may seem, this would not of been enough to kill Senna. The front wheel which came off was forced back and hit him on the head. The two injuries combined were the cause.
When his car stepped out on him he corrected the slide and then as he went to steer the car back on its way the steering column snapped meaning he had no control over the car thats why he went straight into the wall
For all Formula One fans the sport negates all prejudices of colour, creed and religion. We are truly inspired by the bravery of every driver who accepts the challenges of speed and danger associated with Formula One. Yes,we all have our favourites, but we respect them all.S These chosen few paid the ultimate price in chasing their dreams for our entertainment. Thankfully death on the racetrack is now much rarer, but its only a heartbeat away. R.I.P. Heroes.
thank you for this video.Especially last part is beautiful.I think david purley is a hero.I watched his video a lot of times. We will never forget them.
a haunting tribute..so many..a great final touch would have been to mention the greatest fone driver of all Jim Clark..granted he was killed in a ftwo race but probably none better..as one driver said if jim was killed what chance have we..great video
First of all: Very good compilation, especially because you did it with pictures
But two minor things: Firstly I think you should have sticked with pictures only, which you didn't do with Villeneuve and secondly, no doubt that David Purley was a great hero, if put him into the compilation because he tried to save somebody's life, you must put many others also into it. For example, James Hunt who jumped into the fire trying to save Peterson's life or Arturo Merzario who saved Lauda's life in 76.
thanks for reminding david Purley although it was many years ago is a hero as there has never been courage and bravery. Although could not save roger williamson whole world saw his desperate attempt to pull his friend.
Purley williamson and their names will always be united. they were never forget

Hello, I try to remember, I have been working in Zeltweg from 1975 till 1979. Mark Donohue had the accident Sunday before noon, at the "warm up". He was brought by helicopter to next hospital.
At 4:44 it's not Koinigg's crash, it's François Cevert's. Helmuth Koinigg had been beheaded by the security bareer with a frontal impact with no flips...
R.I.P. to all those greats drivers, we miss you...

How exactly did Ayron Senna die? I looked it up on wikipedia and they had several explanations, but none really made sense

Hello Zsuu26, great video, but I have some questions:
Is it true that F.Cevert was literally cut in two pieces by the guard rail?
How come, if this is true, that next year H.Koennig got decapitated by the guard rail, and the circuit hasn't been changed to these days?
Do you have other pictures of Cevert and Koennig accidents?
