If you ever seen the ESPN Films movie "3" (not the crappy CMT version) there's a scene from that movie where they show the confrontation between DW and Dale, Sr from after this incident where DW confronted Dale, Sr right after he did that in-car interview when he got out of his car (I think; been awhile since I seen this movie) and DW got right in his face and talked some shit and Dale, Sr just stood there and didn't say a single word.
NVM the last comment, it is TBS Sports. I know that B/C of Dave Despain and Chris Ecomacki, who both worked with TBS Sports's MotorWeek Illustrated NASCAR & IMSA coverage in the mid '80s. :-)
Is this TBS or CBS Sports that's doing this race? B/C I recognize Ken Squier's and Ned Jarrett's voice and I want to say that it's CBS, but CBS didn't usually do short-track races like this, so can anyone confirm this?
Look at that! At :36 seconds into the clip, the TV director switches from a battle on the track to an irrelevant shot of an anonymous fan in the stands. WTF! That must be Artie Kempner of NASCAR on FOX fame. That is his trademark television direction, switching from what we tuned in to watch to something totally irrelevant. NASCAR has one foot in the grave and it's television partners are throwing dirt in the hole.
i live about 30 mins from rir.. i wish the track was still in this configuration and wasnt in the ghetto... i hate thinkin im gonna get mugged leavin a race
@MrRex41591: The list is: Elliott Sadler, Jeff Green, Steve Park, Jeff Gordon, we go earlier and you get Richard Petty, Buddy Arrington, Dale Sr., Davey Allison... That's a big list...
If i was waltrip i would have gotten out of that car and beat Earnhardt to a bloody pulp. I might go to jail and get suspended but what he did would have been worse. You dont turn into someone's right rear quarter pannel going into the corner that's how u can really hurt another driver or kill them.
Somebody talked of how different the track is. Just to let you know it is a completely different track. This was Richmond Fairgrounds Raceway. The current one is a completely different venue.
Well, sorta. They reconfigured the track to the current setup, ripping out the front stretch and replacing it with the curved one we have today. Today's pit road is roughly where the front stretch used to be.
Because Dale Earnhardt was a badass. Kyle Busch looks like Pee-Wee Herman and whines like a bitch when things don't go his way. He doesn't have the presence that Earnhardt had.
Jr does sulk, that's a good point. I'm not a member of Jr Nation but I do think he's good for the sport. And he's not trying to be like his father. He's trying to be Dale Earnhardt Jr.
For some odd reason it's hard to take Busch seriously. Maybe it's the fact that he's young, maybe it's the fact he has cartoon M&Ms on his car, but I can't take him seriously as a villain.
1st race my daddy ever took me too, we even got a speeding ticket on the way to the track, will tell you that i have not missed any action since, the action track at its best and a sure way to get fans! Best part was they opened the track to the fans at the end of the race and you saw people walking out with parts left and right. The good ole days are no more.
huh it did show up but this took me a long damn time to find i typed in nascar 1986,dlae earhardt battle, darrrel waltrip 1986, and all that, then i typed richmond 1986 and after like 2 hours(figure of speech) it finnaly showed up and i was like damn finnaly.

lmaooo, i guess you towed your own damn car back to the garage in those days, today the CREWS are there in 10 seconds

I wish the camera crew didnt have to rob us of this crash by showing a rather unexcited fan reaction to what we should have been watching...

This, I'd love to see, nothing but guardrails and all brands from GM and Ford, especially the Chevrolets.
This was real racing at its finest, although NASCAR was a little hard on Earnhardt, both here and with Bodine at Charlotte.

Dale Earnhardt made those moves on the track and was a beloved hero for it. Kyle Busch makes those moves on the track and he's crucified!!!!
Double standards at their finest.

Neither does the heir to the Earnhardt name.
Jr.'s the biggest freakin' crybaby in NASCAR.
He sulks and pouts and throws hissy fits when he doesn't get his own way.
Boo-hoo...I didn't get 51% ownership of DEI, I'm packing my 25 gazillion dollar a year t-shirt sales to Rick Hendrick!!
Kyle's more like Dale Sr. than Jr. could ever even hope to be even in his wildest wet dreams!!!

People hated him right from the get go because of Kurt, so he's had a chip on his shoulder from the word go.
He just likes to have fun with it.

i don't understand why this says Earnhardt cut a tire down. Everyone knows he did it on purpose.
erasetoimprove 3 years ago
Amen!!! I think Earnhardt handled that like a pissed off 10 year old losing a board game!!
ShyteKreek46 3 years ago
I never said he cut a tire, I meant that the car cut a hard left in to Darrell's car
freshgeek89 3 years ago
@erasetoimprove Eanrhardt and Waltrip were not good friends at that time so earnhardt did it so waltrip won't finish.
