scary wiring !!!! ,come on people look at other peoples systems and learn how to wire safely ,but good to see another pv wind system up and running :)
Way to go Dude, I like your set up ver much. I own property in Oklahoma and am planing to do the same thing your doing now. Your video boosted my confidence. I have a year round stream running through my property will be able to add a little with that.. Thanks Again
has anyone ever used several car alternaters to recharge battery. thought about getting 5 or 6 alternaters hooked up together running of 20 hp gas motor to power electric car. Know of any place to purchase electric motor for a small car. Can't seem to find a good website. PS this plan is just a thought maybe a bad one but a thought.
My dream is to live in the country off grid without relying on any utility companies. I am dissapointed in the watts that your setup is giving you. What about hydro electricity from a stream/creek/river? I live in Oregon where there are many country properties with some of these.
I have to admit. Making your own electricity is not cheap. Large power companies have the economy of size on their side. There is no way you are going to do it cheaper than them.
But the trade off (as you inferred) is independence or the illusion of it anyway :-)
Water power is no magic wand. As with everything, it sounds good on paper.
Isn't that the most frustrating thing ?!?! You work your ass off and invest a lot of money to do some good and people just snatch it up. I caught a guy stealing my stuff and almost killed him
I'd love to find out who stole everything. It seems it's the way of the world lately. I guess all the druggies need to keep stoned to handle life or something.
Thank you for sharing this. I had always wondered if car batteries could be used to store power and you've answered it.............Thanks again, John Ubele
Good effort. Looks a little dangerous because of the haphazard wiring and loose devices. You could have a meltdown and subsequent fire. Get those batteries higher off the ground away from possible water encroachment and in solid emplacements, and secure those meters in solidly built mounts. Electricity is dangerous, but you know this.
I'm building a wind turbine for a senior project. 6.5 foot diameter 3-blade rotor optimized to have a tip-speed ratio of 5 at at 10 mph wind speed. AC induction generator with 12 pole pairs built out of 24 NdFeB magnets, spare car parts, and a custom 9 coil stator with #14 AWG wire. Calculated about 800W at 28 mph wind, but really expect somewhat less. Will be fed to 3 Rectron M35A rectifiers and a 12V pack of Trojan T105 batteries, accessed through a Xantrex X Power 1000 inverter.
Hey billypopp, I'm trying to learn more about renewable energy. Can you refer websites that could teach basic principles? Great video, please keep doing what your doing.
If you're isolated from the grid and you're blowing fuses during lightening storms, I'd be tempted to think that you're pulling in energy from the tower & guy wires. Unterminated wires can build up quite a charge during electrical storms. Pretty Interesting Stuff. Good Video. TNX.
Not to worry. There's plenty of locations sufficient to harness wind in the U.S. So much so that a much bigger worry is grid stability. Since wind electricity generation varies with weather and since wind turbines don't generate reactive power, we'd run into problems when more than 20% of the grid is wind. We could use much more wind with a decentralized grid. Solar is more predicactable.

Cool.
Did you buy the wind turbine or make that?
Also, where do I find these type of 6 volt batteries?
Thank you!

you need to clean up the wiring. mite start a fire.

its 3*(2*6v) [=12v] for the battery?

where did you buy your panels from?

That is really cool. You are a very smart man. Good job!!!! How much were the solar panels & what kind were they again?? I got some crappy ones.

Hey I'm jealous. Your's is pretty :-)
No just kidding. Great video and great setup.
I am looking forward to setting up a new system.
It was a great learning experience. I will do things different the 2nd time around for sure. One of which will be making things neat and orderly. :-)
Thanks Skip!

Car batteries are ok but you should really use deep cycle or trolling motor, golf cart style batteries.

I use Golf Cart batteries

sound good. But quit mess. Do you mind to show how to install in practically. The budget and equipment + accessories?
Car batteries can last for how long???

3 solar panels, the controllers the meters a 3' dish antenna, a 5.8 Ghz digital radio and a tractor. Total value around $4000.

Inverters cost from $20 - $1000?
I the one I used was about $40

Hi Dave, how often do you reckon your batteries would be
over charged without that controller?

One needs a good controller to keep your batteries from over charging.

The generator is making power too. From a DMM, measured about 2V at 30 rpm, with voltage varying linearly with speed.

Where did you get the charge controller and how much does something like that cost?

Here in Lincoln Maine at Clover Hill Wind and Solar, owner Al Kelly.

Any questions? Ask away. I'll try to answer faster than I did with this one :)

You should build an electric vehicle. You'd be able to charge it with your renewable energy.
Any idea how many kWh has your system generated over the time you had it?
Any approxamate cost per kWh that you expect the system to entail over its lifetime?
Apparantly, wind is now cheaper than coal and solar competitive with 70s era nuclear.
terrorist420x 5 years ago
Wind is very dependent on .... the wind :)
To make a comment that wind is good is a vast generalization. Location, Location, Location.
