It is very diffisult for someone to explain a religion he or she is not born into. At least, these two people are trying to shed some light on this ancient religion. The origin of Hinduism actually predates the so-called indus valley civilization, it is millions of years old since it refers to previous Creations and Dissolutions.
Sir the caste system is a problem of Hindu society and not the religion..give me one example where our scriptures say that one cast is better than the other , the scriptures do tell about the kind of jobs ppl of various caste should do but it never tells about caste by birth system , you say you have read the Geeta ,& there the lord tells caste is determined by Character & the nature of an individual and not by birth...please stop confusing ppl
@Galavya41 Again, Rig Veda 10.90.12. If you want to argue that the symbolism illustrated doesn't create a clear hierarchy; go right ahead.Unfortunately, the mouth of Purusa seems to state otherwise.
@Obsideon9 This is what happens when you get second hand knowledge without proper understanding of vedic terminology and grammar, and also when your sole purpose is to libel the teachings of the Sanatan Dharma ..The Purush Sukta mentions about the varnas( Castes) but it never states that they are by birth, secondly In Hinduism the feet is regarded as the more pious than the rest of the body of the divine , we think very highly of the Ganga because it appeared out of the lords feet.
@Obsideon9 Offerings are offered to the lords feet , the devotee touches the lords feet as they are most pious..So sir the Logic that just because various castes appeared out of different parts of the body they create a hierarchy is incorrect. Again this relates to the varna system and does not mean it has to be by birth.
@Obsideon9 ..The Geeta clarifies the position of the Vedic Sages of India in this regard : The fourfold caste has been created by Me according to the differentiation of Guna (attributes) and Karma;" Bhagavad Gita Ch. 18, V.41 the mahabharata explains further "There is no superior caste. The Universe is the work of the Immense Being. The beings created by him were only divided into castes according to their aptitude." - Mahabharata, Shanti Parva, 188
@Obsideon9 Sir Sages like Vishwamitra and Valmiki were treated a brahmins even though they were born to Kashtria and Shudra parents respectively, sir just like you misunderstood the vedic verse many Hindus too, knowingly and otherwise made the same error so Sir the Caste by birth system is a problem of the Hindu society and not the Vedic Dharma , just like burning of " witches" was an error made by the church and society but has no place in the actual teachings of Christ.
@Galavya41 I will send the bulk of my reply as a message so as to not save space and effort. I will summarize it here by saying the Veda have allowed interpretation by the Brahmin, and the Brahmin have, from what I've observed, interpreted it into the system we commonly know (hierarchy included). I will also add that religion and culture can be hard to separate.
With all due respect to the scholar hare. Bhagwad Geeta introduces nothing new, it just summarizes the knowledge of the Upanishads , the Brahm-Sutras and other scriptures, and thats why the Geeta is respected so much ...Please sir think before you speak , as a new person might get confused
hinduism is based on vedas, and nowhere in vedas caste system has been advocated, hence hinduism does not prescribe caste system.what is now being followed by hindus should be eradicated as it splits the society. You wud surely agree that we shud judge a religion by depth of it's scriptures(vedas in this case) only and then(if time permits) how good the followers(hindus in this case) are in all aspects of life.Appreciate ur interest in the most ancient of religions
@humbleman01 Rig Vada. 10.90.12. "The Brahman (priestly caste) was his [Purusa's] mouth, his two arms became the Rajanya (warrior caste); his two thighs are the Vaisya (artiasan caste), from his two feet the Sudra (serf caste) was produced." As translated by Franklin Edgerton, originally printed in "The Beginnings of Indian Philosophy," and taken from "Discovering the Global Past: A Look at the Evidence. Volume I: To 1650. Third Edition."
How is the caste systeam hindus? i thought the caste systeam was made when the persians insalved the hindus or INDUS people.
So thats a full blown lie as far as i see it, The teachings of the caste systeam was only made because the persians had "WHITE SKIN" and the indus people had dark "BROWN SKIN".
The only way a hindu could own a high title was too FIGHT FOR PERSIANS, also it was a fact that the caste syteam broke down because the persian started RAPEING the indus women.
Hinduism is Casteism. people who do not let Lower Castes in the temples, talk about Spirituality. LOL

The british did not get rid of caste. That happened in 1947.
The British compounded caste by taxing Indians according to caste, therefore making it impossible for caste to be fluid.
The British were the worst invaders of India in it's entire history.
