My wife of 29 years died today. This is just for her and as we were watching the sky tonight, we saw her zoom by in a shooting star. She will be so badly missed by so many people. God bless Margaret, we miss you. XXXX
My dad died just after this song came out. A month later, my divorce was finalized. I listened to this song over and over. This song/album/band helped me through the roughest time in my life. I saw them in concert in Phoenix, opening for RHCP. I am forever grateful to Wayne Coyne and the Flaming Lips.
Again his hand doesn't change position when the chord changes. This happens in quite a few of the live performances. Is he really playing it or is it a recording? :/
morons whining about his voice are missing the point entirely. Go watch autotuned videos with bieber or some other crap if actual, real voices bother you.
His voice may not be "perfect" but you gotta admit where sang around 2:30 that's was pretty on key :D Either way I'll love this band forever :D they've had some AMAZING albums. So far I've only heard The Soft Bulletin and everything after that :D
@MrMacGrungy Hi there. Go get the earlier albums, you won't regret it. I too would strongly recommend Transmissions, Clouds taste Mettalic, but also Hit To Death in The Future Head. Every album is different, but these 3 are slightly rawer than more recent stuff...full of typically great Lips tunes though. Enjoy!
This is the saddest, happiest song ever made. Also if your really a fan, you'll love them no matter how much his voice cracks. The dude has been through the gauntlet, give him a break. he is still a amazing musician.
I agree Wayne's vocals are not as good as on the album. I don't know if it's because he's getting old or what, but I was a bit disappointed. The drumming is great though.
I love these guys. You can just tell they love what they do and every show they play, they're having a blast. Plus I'm convinced Wayne Coyne has a spaceship.
The only people I've found who hate this song tend to have a short attention span and think it's some sort of dark emo song right around the "everyone you know will die" part and then they turn it off. The first few lyrics are dismissed as being sappy because clearly the person listening is too bad ass to be affected by this.
@tylerao , No not off beat , yeah most of there songs are
i mean actually out of time with one another , its ok like , every musician has cocked up in the first bar or so , at some point in there carrer , even me lol
Sound like there struglerling to keep in time at the start , but then they all get used to it , still sounds epic , at least we know its real live music =)
I'm Indianapolis, where David Letterman is from and I still can't stand that guy. But The Flaming Lips rule, this song is so deep that it just makes me think about it all when I hear it. I realize and I appreciate it all
Rarely do you see someone who seems to love their craft so genuinely. Seeing Wayne and The Lips perform ALWAYS puts a smile on my face no matter what mood I'm in.
You can tell hes not used to this gig, he usually does amazing choriography on a big stage in front of a huge crowd where they respond to all the gestures hes makiing. Stage is too small to hold their epicness
Wayne Coyne is one of the most insightful and talented human beings to ever grace the earth with his presence. Im insanely jealous of his ability to write lyrics.
The guitar has an airsynth in it. If you search you can see vids of the way it is used. Wayne isn't playing so much as getting getting cool sounds out it. He can bounce around the stage with the guitar versus it being stationary on a stand.
"Do you realize everyone you know someday will die?" is the simplest, yet most profound lyric I've ever heard. Just a wonderful song by a really, really good band.
Not sure of the model, but I am 80-90% Certain it is a post-WWI Martin Twelve String acoustic with something like an LR Baggs Sunrise soundhole pick-up.
I read somewhere that this was one of the best indie rock bands, and by the way they are nominated for a Grammy ? , I mean I respect them just for the fact that they have been playing for a long time. But honestly, the singer can't sing at all, I don't know what to think about the lyrics, I do like the mozart look and their style in general, but honestly they are completely overrated, now I am not writing this comment to offend anybody, just being really honest. Peace
The lyrics are profound "do you relise that everyone you know someday will die? and instead of saying all of your goodbyes let them know you realise that life goes fast its hard to make the good things last you realise the sun doesnt go down its just an illusion caused by the world spinning 'round."
If you cant appreciate that then you have never lost someone you cared about.
@RebelThoughts People actually think because 2 songs have a few of the same notes in them that the one that came later is a rip off? Haha, oh wow. Not trying to be disrespectful towards your opinion but seriously, the songs are so different its not even funny. You can take almost any song you've ever listened to and find a song that came 30 years earlier that sounds similar. Be kind to yourself.
did you see the singers guitar? He was only playing one chord the whole song and also there was a little black dome looking thing in the middle of his guitar. If im not mistaken, that would keep the strings from making noise. But anyways this band rocks. 5 stars, i mean thumbs up.
