Oh man, that first one, and the third, scared the HECK out of me when I was a kid. I didn't go away from that place with too many things creeping me out, but oh boy did this.
@mysterie If that's your definition of "tourist trap" than every museum, theme park, and any other attraction someone might go to see is a "tourist trap".
HOTR is worth DOUBLE THE PRICE to get in! This is THE most breathtaking and incredible collections of COLLECTIONS amassed in one place that your sorry mortal ass is ever likely to see in an entire short life. Think THIS is a trap? Go spend the same amount to see the Winchester House. <--So not worth it. HOTR MUST be preserved forever. Join all the other amusement hacks who take everything for granted and have your fun at the f'ing tractor pulls. You dork.
I have been to House on the Rock a few times. One thing I'm sad about is that the place has been "sanitized" since the mid-late 90s. (I assume once the builder's family sold it, the new owners decided to make it more "family friendly"). If you were there earlier you know what I'm talking about - the place just isn't as creepy as it used to be.
I'm probably going here this summer, but I've received really mixed reviews so far. Some people think it's a tacky tourist trap, while others say it's one of the coolest places ever. What's your opinions?
No sir this is the absolute most astonishing collection of... EVERYTHING. You walk through it, passing LITTERALLY millions of equally interesting objects, most extremely rare and unique, on a 6 hour self guided tour through fantasyland.
A great reminder of one of the wildest attractions on earth. Oddly touching, these music boxes will haunt your dreams as they have been doing for 140 years! Will someone post the mannequin orchestra? GREAT WORK THX and thanks!!!
I forgot to teke videos of everything last weekend when I went on my yearly trip, but did you notice in the mannequin orchestra there are famous people. Lincoln, one of the Marx bros. and Nixon are some of them !
I agree anybody that has even a slight fascination with old tyme things NEEDS to go there. Just the vibe throughout most of that place, sort of vague creepiness...incredible and inimitable
@Feuerbach1 i agree id like to be there alone....it would be even more creepy and fascinating... the crowds is what keeps u in reality its a tour,,,lol

i work there. it really IS a tourist trap. take it from somebody who knows the place very well.
also, alex jordan was a racist bigot who hated christmas and religion.
but most of all.....HE WAS A CON MAN you have no idea how ill minded that place is.
people come to look at bells and whistles, so the new owners (art and karen donaldson)
can spend your hard earned money on the resorts and inns they own.....where they take even more of your money. :]

The music is Danse macabre, Op. 40 1872 by French composer Camille Saint-Saëns. Also used in the tv series Jonathan Creek!

Just for the record here are the songs that are on here-----I don't here any Mikado, but I sure am curious if anyone knows what the 4th song is.
Here are the others:
1. Danse Macabre by Saint-Saens
2. Tennessee Waltz by Redd Stewart and Pee Wee King
3. Ritual Fire Dance by La Falla
4. ? Indian—definitely not Japanese or Puccini.
