no need to restart the game, just type /vid_restart

also... when you change the resolution it would be nice to adjust the aspect ratio using /r_aspectratio, in this case 800/480=1.66, almost 16:10,

the good thing about quake 3 is, EVERY and I mean EVERY one can play! :) on mac,pc,pocket pc, linux, and soon itouch and iphone! this runs great on a powermac g3 B&W!

You don't need to use custom resolution, 800x480 is a native Quake 3 resolution.
