Should've been Lampard's last game for England, but alas no. He had the chance to score in open play, but lacked any kind of composure, so was taking the first pen the best option for England? If he'd scored his pen then it would have given the other players much more confidence stepping up. Incidentally that penalty claim (handball) we had in the game, who would you want taking it if it were given? No doubt lamps would've grabbed the ball, but my money would be on Owen Hargreaves every time!

simple solution for England.... start putting your penalties higher! I've never seen a penalty saved from the top corner. Put them anywhere in the bottom half of the goal and you're giving the keeper a chance. Look at the way Alan Shearer used to take them and learn from that.
