This isn't cruel; she's inflicting no pain on the squirrel. Granted, the critter only stays on the skis to keep out of the water, but it's probably accustomed to the act by now-- and it gets taken care of, obviously.
The squirrel will have a longer, healthier, and (possibly) happier life than the thousands lying by the curb. Also, it's infinitely more humane than the treatment of every animal you eat.
