  • the cadenza reminds me of beethoven's violin concerto, except for the double stops, and the trills. All in all, it doesn't belong really. But overall, a fabulous intrepretation

  • Why is he playing the introduction?

  • @iralee3c

Because that's how the concerto was played many years ago. If you look at the score (both to this and the other four concerti), you'll notice that until the solo comes in, the solo violin line doubles the first violin part.

  • I LOVE THE FACIAL EXPRESSIONS HE MAKES WHEN HE PLAYS! XD

  • the cadenza is ridiculous , but i appreciate that he tried .

  • @theviolinchaneel...

it says queen elisabeth violin competiton... did he win?

  • when the guy does the same thing another guy does apparently its now called imitating. cmon hes doing it the exact same reason why vengerovs doing not cuz he wants to imitate him. holy crap grow up and stop thinking like a total bitch

  • I think this is exactly how Mozart would play it

  • I like everything but the cadenza. Nothing to do with the rest of the concerto and certainly nothing to do with Mozart.

  • everyone is unqiue in its own way, so shut up ppl, btw LOVE the intepretation

  • Something about the ''vengerov mimics '' i read . Those mimics are completely distractive if you re just try to imitate vengerov or someone else ..what i m trying to say is that its difficult to move a lot or make faces while playing cause it distarcts you and you can not play properly so i dont think that ray chen is imitating vengerov it is just his own expression an other way of showing his feelings try to imitate someone else .. you can not cause in playing we re all different even if we try

  • to imitate someone it wont work

  • BRILLIANT INTERPRETATION. He's having lots of fun, just as Mozart would've liked!

  • It looks like his fingers are just dancing across the fingerbord.

  • I thought it a bit unorthodox as he played the beginning with the orchestra accompaniment. His self composed cadenza was brilliant and he kept it well within the boundaries of Mozart. Bravo!!

  • I am also bothered by his imitation of Vengerov's funny facial expression.

  • he is playing so beautifull but i i think that there is a tendency for the new best violonists to imitate Vengerov,s facial mimics which is not something that they should do unless they really feel that way....the mimics are looking like something learned, not very natural....but i got to say, the playing is wonderful

  • He is simply outstanding. You may compare him to all the top violinists today and he is as good.

  • no offense but his facial expression is scary O_o

  • wrong note at 3:15, but great overall nonetheless

  • He has the frickin skinniest fingers ever.

  • I don't know how to play violin and I was recently given one by my uncle for Christmas. I found a video on a program and wasn't sure if it was worth the money of not? Claims that you can Learn to play violin in 30 days, Master the Violin, quickly and Now. Look forward to some feedback.w w w (dot) getgoodreviews (dot) com/go/violin_lessons (dot) php

  • @abbott080 There is no quick way to learn violin. It takes years and years to master. Just go and pay for lessons with a decent teacher and don't trust any quick learning books.

  • I've been watching his videos from this competition....I think he's really good, but I don't really quite understand how he got FIRST place.

    He's good, but....FIRST place?

  • @dancefreak928 so you've seen someone better? reeeeally?

  • Did @Capuccino97 gave you a thumb down? I removed it.

He think he himself will play it better.

  • I'm agree with Capuccino97.if you know a better violinist in this competition suggest please.

  • I wonder if this is his own cadenza? Excuse my ignorance if I'm wrong, but it's certainly nothing I've ever heard.

  • yeah me too i was like what? when i heard it, but sounds impressive, especially if he made it himself.

  • @A4440HZ It's his own, according to the description.

  • @24DustyRose no offense but how old are you? just asking. btw i am not a pedifile or a stalker or kidnapper just if ;you're wondering

  • that's dumb. i love his emotion.

  • music is about expressing emotions my friend :D

  • Go to hell, everyone gives the rate they want!! even thou, its a wonderful performance, except for the cadenza i think, but still great!

  • Oh God! Where are we going???!!!

  • lol I agree - sounds like something my old teach would say. It's nice, crisp and clean, but a tad on the brisk side for my taste for this particular piece. But thats artistic expression/freedom I guess.

  • Juste magnifique !

  • brav!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The way he plays it, it looks like a peace of cake, but I'm also playing this concerto, and i can tell you: it's not simple!

    (We love you ray !!!)

  • that was fantastic!!!!

I like the close up of his fingers...they seem to flutter like the wings of a dove...

He looks like he is having so much fun!!! =D

  • who the hell is giving ray all these 3s and 4s for ratings??
