I'm happy with my 3.25Ghz OC on Air and a good Heat Sink. I don't hit 50 if I turn up the fans a bit and that's doing fully threaded Video Editing. Oh yah and that's with a 620 at 250 Mhz FSB without changing anything else.

@ThavionHawk Whats your CPU volts ? My unlocked ;), 630 runs 24/7 @3.25 13x 250 and 1.3125v. Cool and quiet is off. Ram/timings and NB/HT speeds are manually set to defaults. Ram = 1333mhz, 1.5v 9-9-9-24. NB and HT link are both 2000mhz with volts left at auto.

50C is ok but I know you can do better lol.

@ThavionHawk I've got a 620 rather then a 630 btw. Same chip with a 13x rather then 14x Core Multiplier.

@ThavionHawk Cool.. but the Cpu and Dram volts, should be manually set to stock. Even with this mild oc. Same goes for your Northbridge/HT link and ram speed/timings. My guess is your temps will drop 3-5C. If your ram is using dimms 0,1 try 2,3 /the pair farthest from your cpu and they'll drop 5-7C more.

Have you tried unlocking the L3 6mb cache?

@MagikHerbs The Propus Core has no L3 catch. That's why it's so easy to overclock. The lower power draw and thus lower temperature using the same silicon as it's Phenom II brother makes it a more stable and easy chip to OC. Also the added performance of L3 is made up for with an avg OC of 15% so I'm good.

As for the CPU and DRAM voltages, the lower timings on the RAM call for the small added Voltage while the CPU is at stock.

My last CPU was an Opteron 185, that took some doing to get 3Ghz.

@ThavionHawk Mine is unlocked and CPUz/AOD and others still read it as a Propus. Check the codes on your cpu. The code on the second line starts with a set of 5 that look like.. CACAY. If your code has a C in the middle, xxCxx, then its a Deneb and most likely will unlock.

I don't think its necc to tighten the ram timings on mild OCs. There is little/no diff in performance. Only heat gain. And that Opteron (90nm) is no comparison to AM3 (45nm). Its amazing it didn't blow up lol

@MagikHerbs I'll admit that above I said the CPU was at stock voltage. On second check it was being overvolted by the mobo as you said. I'm running a burn in with the gambit of video encoders and games and thus far 41C is the peek temp. I feel dumb on that. Same with the RAM voltage at the short timings.

As for the L3, I've checked and no L3. I've got a honest Propus Core.

Did you enable hybrid mode and set ACC to Auto in the bios?

If no, load bios defaults and reboot back into bios to sett Hybrid /ACC.

But on the contrary, be sure to watch system power consumption as you overclock. When this baby starts eating as much as core i7 920, while perfoming way poorer, overclock will loose its meaning. Must check this in near future.

@WTCHME ya I only upgraded my cooling to keep it nice and chilly (I like to keep my temps really low) my temps with the stock cooler maxed at 55C at max cpu load after 4 hours so the temps were still fine but with my new cooler my cpu doesn't go over 45C even after max cpu load for about 8 hours, as long as your temps are below 55-60C I wouldn't bother with a new cooler unless you want to keep your temps in the basement like me lol

@aloykatos you can use the same steps for dry ice cooling which most people can get there hand on (depending on what country you live in) for a fairly reasonable price. Not as cold but still roughly -70c which is more then enough as long as you don't intend to break a world record.

Yep, it will. You need a faster CPU to keep pace with the Radeon HD 5850 since it is, after all, the second fastest single GPU card in the world. The low cache is mainly what will make it bottleneck. The minimum I would go with that 5850 is a Phenom II X4 925. The Core i5 750 looks like the best choice for that GPU, though.
