Well placed shot..although could'nt tell the distance..they look like nasty little rounds!! I have a Nice Ruger .22 Magnum Rifle.. and man do those bullets fly!! The .17 reminds me of my buddy's old .22 Hornet, that thing would spin Woodchucks around and blow a Mean Hole in 'em..Keep Shooting and Remember..Gun Control Means Using Both Hands!! :)
Very nice. I own a Mark II .22 calibre. I would like a 17 HMR. I like the style of this one.
I'm in New Zealand. Those thumhole stocks have just been reclassified as military style and require a very hard to get license to buy one. I could buy a non thumhole, but I have to wonder what the police are thinking when it's just a stock style that changes it from recreational to a restricted weapon.
Actually the really ridiculous thing about the latest changes in the gun laws is that this was inspired by a shootout in the town of Napier. The person involved had a huge arsenal of weapons and no firearms license. He had obtained all his guns illegaly.
It's already been pointed out the the police that passing new laws isn't going to make any difference to somebody who wasn't obeying the laws in the first place. However, they have made up their minds and that's that!
I am in New Zealand and have a Savage 93R17 BTVS with a thumhole stock. This is still classified as " A" Cat as it doesn't have a stand alone pistol grip and is a bold action. Take a look at the regulations again. This gun shoots well and have taken hares over 250 - 300 yards. Cheers !
yes you are right you can easily kill a deer with a 17 hmr with a well placed shot same with a .22 its just harder but its still illegal so dont do it..and modern day assasins used the .22 because the bullet has just enough power to enter the skull but not exit. very good to use with a well placed shot and sence the .17hmr is so accurate it is in my opinion the perfict firearm!
i'm not going to say a .17 hmr wouldnt kill a deer ( with a very well placed shot) but here in TN it is illegal to hunt deer with a rimfire round. centerfire only
A well placed shot could but I "don't think" it is legal. I think you have to hunt a certain caliber or higher for deer but some states might be different.
distance seems about 80-100 yards?

Same gun I have...It's sweet. I love it. I can group my shots in a dim size circle at 100 yards with ease. I use hollow point TNT 17 HMR.

How do you cook that? Maybe you could manage a stew from the remains but rabbit fillets would not be very appetizing.

opps .. bolt action
Wingburner 2 years ago
You're right, the new law is only for semi auto gins with thumbhole type stocks. Bolt actions types remain A catagory.
So I can buy that savage 17 HMR bolt action I saw in Hunting and Fishing last month.

Go get the 93R17 BTVS ! Also a good suppressor, you wont be able to remove much of the 17HMR "crack" though !
