  • loved dwaynes synth part the first 28 seconds. It also comes up at the end of the concert. Glad to hear it again on DT outtake track, 'Blink and It's Gone.'

  • honestly, ill never understand why people dont understand that metallica and skinny puppy evolved at the same tine .. genres defy time.

  • Let us sit for 8 and half minutes and remember that back then the "HD" as we know it today wasn't an option

  • THIS MAN IS TRAPPED IN A EPISODE OF DOCTOR WHO

    OMFG SOME ONE HELP !

  • This shit gets pretty demonic towards the middle. The singer looks and sounds like a demon.

  • @ludwigvan17 Yep, that's why we love him. This is nothing, see him in person, and he will freak you right out.

  • I adore skp! and cEvin Key and Phil Western!

  • fookin intense outro...

  • All those silly electro-goth bands should pack their shit and get serious : listen to this and bow down, clowns.

  • my math teacher told me about skinny puppy i think she hade a crush on me.

  • @NWBE4ST Go For It

  • @NWBE4ST you had the hottest math teacher in human history.

  • @NWBE4ST Nice.

  • @NWBE4ST any math teacher that cool deserves a little something.

  • One of the great live acts of their day. First time I saw them I was terrified then amazed. This was my favorite song as it was the best mix of the industrial+new wave goth funk. Some of their stuff got to be strictly background music but they were at their height here.

  • THE BEST..........I LOVE YOU OGRE....

  • 0:55 that scream...wow

  • No fucking way skinny puppy has been around since 1986, where the fuck have I been. I missed it, I'm off to take some mushrooms and blow myself up along with washington dc. I'll see one in 1986, I was born in 83 why isn't the bus ever on schedule god damnit.

  • @parsleysprigs Skinny Puppy has been around since 1982

  • Goth kids didn't exist back then...oh yes, there was goth, but it was real. We regularly would travel a few hundred miles to see these great bands, many times in Toronto, Canada (one of the benefits of living near Buffalo, N.Y.). Just because we are now in our 40's and 50's doesn't mean our musical likes have changed...Look Out!!! Seriously though, you'll never see the great 80's music period again, except in video.

  • @garypsutton I envy you man. Well, I'm slightly too young to have enjoyed shows back then (I'm 35) but I've always preferred music from that era, way before all those hipsters started listening to 80' s revival bands 5-10 years ago. Wish I could have been there.

  • love the ending...

  • the live improv (brap) never ceased to give me goose bumps.

  • In an interview, Ohgr said something about cutting himself and pushing it to the edge, as way to give others hope. As seeing him in a state like that, not knowing if he would make it through would give others the strength to over come their difficulties. (Not his exact words) but that makes sense to me. Skinny Puppy I only took positive things from. If a band influences you negatively, find another band. Anyway, can we get back to the video now? Awesome song!

  • also he was like 22 here and probably all jacked up on narcotics (how the name ogre came about). i've seen them play 2 or three times recently and theres not as medicalization/injury of the body as there was before

  • skinny puppy are fucking gods

  • which song was the previous from choke?

  • Did he really cut a gash in his face, or was that makeup?

  • what's with the self mutilation? i would actually like skinny puppy if it wasn't for that. its so pointless and unnecessary.

  • @youcandance12345 thats a stupid reason not to enjoy their music

  • @hellchild65 it's actually a perfectly legitimate reason. if when i hear their music all i can think about is some unstable guy cutting his face, why would i want to listen to it?

  • @youcandance12345 let me ask you something, when you see a policeman on the street do you think of him beating a black person to a pulp or when you see your brother comming home from the service in his army uniform do you picture mutilated bodies all over a large battlefield? just dont think of it, its not hard unless you get creeped out easily by stuff extremely easily....

  • @hellchild65 saying all policemen beat people up is an overstatement, because not all policemen do that. but in this case there's only ONE band (skinnypuppy), not several bands by the same name, where some of them perform in self mutilation, and some don't. this one band specifically is involved in it, so when i specifically listen to this band, those are the images that come up, because that's what this specific band does. and it prevents me from liking them because i find it unnecessary.

  • @youcandance12345 Well I find my GF smoking pot unnecessary but i dont break up with her because she does it, i accept her for who she is because she is an awesome person. and your wrong SP isnt the only band that does it, Iggy Pop and Marilyn Manson gash themselves on stage too, as do a few Black Metal groups and im sure im forgetting a few other bands. and ever think that there is a reason behind doing it?

  • @hellchild65 i assumed you'd respond by saying sp isn't the only band that self mutilates. i KNOW that. i was making a comment on your analogy. you likened them cutting themself to cops beating people, and i was saying not ALL cops beat people. you can't liken sp to all cops because not all cops are the same. anyway enough of that, self mutilation and smoking pot are two TOTALLY different things. and yeah there are reasons for it, but they're not good reasons. so i don't wanna see it.

  • @youcandance12345 there are reasons for mutilating himself that are more obvious when taken in context with what is going on in the lyrics or sample messages at that time in any given SP song---its a sociopolitical band that was making visual and audio statements together in a performance, not just slicing for the heck of it as you imply by saying that you find it "pointless and unnecessary"...so, forgetting hellchild's bad analogy skills for a moment, your point still wasnt solid

  • @lestermagoo you could rationalize anything he did and claim it as a "statement", and therefore justify it. but he really could've made the same "statement" in a multitude of ways. if the only way he felt he could possibly relate something was by slicing his face, then he's not showing much of an intellect. resorting to violent acts is pretty cheap to me. (not to mention barbaric). why not just commit suicide onstage? that'd be a social statement. and apparently its ok as long as its a statement

  • @youcandance12345 ironic that you mention resorting to violence and barbarism in that way because thats part of the point of their focus against violence and animal cruelty...you help address a common SP topic that there always seemed to be two types that like to focus on SP imagery: my kind that saw the opposition to violence in the use of said violence, then the "faces of death" doom generation idiots that didnt get it and just saw darkling scary images that were cool to them on some dim level

  • Comment removed

  • @lestermagoo if someone's trying to speak against violence, they shouldn't do it by being violent! that's the silliest thing i've ever heard! if anything i'd be inclined to think he ENJOYS violence based on his acts. therefore, if he was indeed trying to relate anti violence, he failed. nobody sees a guy slicing himself up and thinks "oh that guy's against violence". and i don't see "darkling images" here. i see a poor guy who doesn't know how to get a message across other than self destructing.

  • @youcandance12345 yes of course but without the lack of evolving knowledge you so graciously come acrosse than who would know or bring it to light?

  • @PaulyKracker i'm confused by that comment... anyway, my bottom line is that i enjoy a lot of skinny puppy's music, but i can't stand their live show because i feel like it glorifies self destruction. putting out an image of self destruction is counter intuitive to a message of overcoming the system, or overcoming anything. you can't overcome anything by self destructing. so not only is the imagery and behavior grotesque and needless, it defeats their purpose. that's my point.

  • @youcandance12345 naw i was a bit on the drunk side, but this reminded me of my youth in a way..., your opinion is well receieved and i thank u, but this song i look at as a time which i see myself in the past now,and the destructive conceqencives have panned out, but maybe not so many, now, of course. due untoo thus... gl unto you brother/sister

  • @PaulyKracker thanks very much. my youth was pretty destructive as well, and i have to say i was kinda encouraged to be even more destructive because of the music i listened to then. when you're young you don't have a good sense of judgment, ya know? so i did some self mutilating then, which i completely regret now. that's one reason i'm so sensitive about it, because i know there are people who can be influenced by seeing it. but we all have our lessons to learn in life i suppose. take care!

  • @youcandance12345 For people to mutilate themselves because they saw someone else do it, a part of them would already have to have a desire for that in them. If you view it in a dark way or it's negatively influencing you, you have the choice to not watch/listen to it. (He didn't do it for the sake of thinking it was cool/starting a trend, more to get a message across.) SP I always viewed in a positive light, graphic imagery/shows gives a more realistic picture of truth and song meanings.

  • Comment removed

  • @BurninPassion143 that's a very good argument, but i'm afraid i still disagree. there's a certain line that separates getting a message across and going too far. and when you've gone too far it becomes more gratuitous than meaningful. in this case i gather that he carved a smile into his face because the lyrics in the song refer to a fake smile. that's unnecessary. i almost wanna grab him and go "whoa whoa, hold on buddy, you don't like fake smiles, i get it!". lol

  • @youcandance12345 This video is old, so always a chance he long stopped doing that. A part of me feels bad that he cares so much about his art/getting his message across that he was willing to bleed for it. TRUE ARTIST. IMO when something is slightly disturbing/shocking to people it gives them a glimpse of masked reality. (So I can understand why.) Had I seen that live though, I probably would have been scared. I think he could have always faked it, and put on an equally amazing show.

  • @BurninPassion143 it's visceral. that's why it's so good.

  • @youcandance12345 its neither glorification nor renunciation. but skinny puppy isn't a new age fun fest of positivity and overcoming. they always were the shadow psyche, but ogre realized that the mind is embodied and he showed you everything that goes along with that as well. that's what ogre is showing you. it's not an image which implies a representation of something else. it is exactly what you are experiencing. it's supposed to be revolting. people can be revolting.

  • @youcandance12345 remember hurricane katrina. and after the destruction, all that filth and sludge, and toxic refuse, garbage and waste was left mixed with the flooded waters after the hurricane stripped the veneer of civilization away. disasters like that show the shadow of the "progress of western civilization". well skinny puppy shows you the same thing, just at the level of how the external reacts with the internal.

  • @youcandance12345 and as a final remark, creation and destruction are inextricably linked in a continuous cirle. this isnt so much me espousing a heraclitean philosophy as it is an ecological fact

  • @youcandance12345 you are misusing the word mutilate. mutilation is permanent injury.

  • If Skinny Puppy isn't on the new Deus Ex game's soundtrack, I will be very disappointed.

  • Personally I like both.

  • Damn people quit fucking arguing about who's better. Remember fighting on the internet is just like being in the special olympics...even if you win, you're still retarded.

  • These guys were way ahead of their time. Brilliant

  • was the first song the end of Deadlines?

  • @wolfmanjacksaid

sounds more like assimilate and i believe he was clean in the deadlines video. The assimilate one he gets all bloody in.

  • @gforemang ah, you're totally right on that

  • Those Lexicon PCM-41's had intermittent problems ;)

  • the originalz in NOIZE

  • One of the best.

  • 5:17 ... ow

  • Still sounds great...

  • Nine Inch Nails fucking sucks

  • @MarinoXDesun stop going around skinny puppy videos saying nine inch nails sucks. Both bands respect each other and no one thinks you are cooler for bashing nin. Both are just as good loser.

  • @shagskiarch ummm.... but NIN does suck now lol!

  • @shagskiarch How DARE YOU to compare Skinny Puppy to fucking NIN? You suck

  • @MarinoXDesun my sentiments exactly..

  • @shagskiarch your right ..NO COMPARISON..

  • One of their best songs! That time I was 14 and SP was the soundtrack of my life..

  • Goddamn, I was in my mother's womb when they did this. Seriously, I'm almost 24 now. COME OUT WITH A NEW ALBUM SOON, PLEASE. ITS BEEN ALMOST 4 YEARS, FOR FUCKS SAKE, RECORD LABELS BE DAMNED. DO IT ON SUBCONSCIOUS STUDIOS IF NEED BE, ILL BUY IT

  • @waldenpondogre

I wasn't even conceived when this came out :'D DO I WIN.

I agree though, I really hope they'll do a new album soon!!! I'd fuckin buy it too, not even digitally, but the album itself!!

  • COME OUT WITH A NEW ALBUM SOON, PLEASE. ITS ALMOST BEEN 4 YEARS, FOR FUCKS SAKE.

  • niezły popierdol.

  • @BRAINROTAGE yea, but if you wanna know if something it's interesting let the time decided.

    Peace bros.

  • najbardziej niedoceniony zespól w historii

  • I saw these guys back in 1988 with the Fields of the Nephilum at the original 9:30 club in Washington DC both bands scared the shit outta me. I was stoned and buzzing hard on beer, didn't have a clue what the show was going to be like. It was 3 bands for 3 bucks the third band was Gwar.

  • @lughnut scared us back in 1986 show as well. Holding the freaking album in your hands was freaky.

  • @lughnut BOY DID YOU LUCK OUT,WISH I WAS THAT LUCKY

  • I see Skinny tomorrow in Belgium !!

  • Dwayne was the spirit of Puppy.

  • This is powerful music. Way too futuristic for the future can handle

  • Es gibt nichts geileres!!!

  • la buena musica nunca pasa de moda, the good music its forever, never is old

  • They are too fucking good.

  • sorry guys I don't know the band, but why is he like that? what's that? blood?

I can't understand, could someone explain to me?

  • @lolroot

Fake blood I would assume. It's for the viewing pleasure. SP always puts on a good theatrical show.

  • You never knew how far he would go....

    That frightened the straights.

  • Was there. Made me who I am. Thanks.

    Miss the Nettwerk days

  • I love that zoom on the woman/virgin mary at the end!

  • And 24 years later this still seems so super.

Great music, great show. I'd been crying and intimitated to death if i'd seen that kinda of act in 1986. Well because i was six but oh boy! =P

    Awesome stuff

  • Weltniveau !!!

  • "The Choke + brapping Last part of a full show from ZOPO Horst 10.12.1986"

taken from the description, I was curious... the term "brapping" is their made up word signifying "jam session"? or does it mean more than that?

  • @leet512 yeah, pretty much a jam session. Improved sampling, live studio editing, whatever you wanna call it. They've given more than one definition to the term "brap" previously, but that's more or less it.

  • @leet512

It usually means they were fucked up on some type of drug while having a "jam session". Pretty interesting music comes out when you brap.

  • Brapping is basically a jam session, or otherwise unused (on albums) material. Of course there is the Back and Forth series. Brap are also B-sides.

  • 

  • The Choke is an amazing song, the best off of Bites.

  • amazing!

  • Just great- truly great

  • Those people in the crowd look like they are in a trance. That is so amazing

  • They're probably high. :P

  • If you've ever seen them live...you'd know EXACTLY why. I couldnt even imagine seeing them back in the 80s.

  • Watch "Le Tenant" and only then you'll understand this song.

  • jeezus he cuts himself with that knife???or its fake blood???

  • in that time he was quite the showman. going so far as to make his own chestplate with an exploding blood bomb type thing. however he would often get carried away, and yes, actually cut himself, and puke. the band was sometimes about performance art to an extreme. even as late as last rights he tore fake guts and stuff constructed out of plastic (and condoms?) filled with fake blood, out of his abdomen/stomach area.

it really looks quite shocking when you see it up close.

  • thanks for all the info man...im new to them and i think their music is fucking great!!!and its so old!!!they were so ahead of their times...

  • hell yeah they were. you can see a very direct influence even in faith no mores video where mike patton is dressed as a surgeon and theres blood everywhere.

  • they wernt really ahead of their time at all. i grew up in chicago in the early 80's and every wax trax band was doing the same thing and before them gg allen, the butthole surfers, throbbing gristle and others had already taken it further.. not to disrespect SP's thing but after 1984ish this kind of thing was already a bit campy.

  • @newbowery GG Allin was a nutjob who was exploited...he had no message....Skinny Puppy are known both for their theatrics and their lyrics...what's campy is shitting on stage and then rolling around in it!!!!!!

  • You guys do know theyve been together since 1979 dont You i mean listen to that dark keyboard bommmmmmmmmmmmmbommmmmmmmmmmmmm

BRAP ON BRAP BRAP BRAP BRAP THEY WERE THERE FIRST HERE FIRST ,,,,NO ONE NEW WHAT TO THINK OF THEM ,,,THEY DID ALL THE HEAVY LIFTING,AND THEN MINISTRY FOLLOWED

  • @DorianNivek912 Hey, umm, you need to do a little more research... For one, I am from Vancouver, was there when they came out, and am a musician who is ACQUAINTED(this does not mean friends!) with Ogre and cEvin... They were NOT together since '79, they formed in '82. Ministry were formed in '78 and debuted in '80. The sound of the post-industrial that Ministry and Skinny Puppy formed, they formed TOGETHER. They met each other, had similar ideas, and bounced back n forth off each other...

  • @horrorshowsparks lmao im a really huge skinny puppy fan and agree with yer statement 110% infact most people wuld be afriad of ogre i for one am scarred of gg alien hes fucked up

  • @horrorshowsparks Agreed. GG Allin was a talentless, attention starved hack. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

  • @horrorshowsparks lol he kinda does but its just like a kind of base "i do what i want" anarchism. watch the clips of him on jerry springer. his entire act seems to be irl troll with a little message mixed in. i dont think he could tell which parts were which though.

  • @DivisionbyZer0 jerry springer?

  • @horrorshowsparks

"what's campy is shitting on stage and then rolling around in it"

    . . .

"what's campy is shitting on stage and then rolling around in it"

"what's campy is shitting on........stage and then rolling.................around in it"

  • Thats his Show....& it could never be better...There was a time when he didnt care about his life much & did some things that most ppl would call "Ubsean". I Call it life & he raped the Competition in the industrial world.

  • Comment removed

  • What's the song that plays before The Choke?

  • last call

  • It was almost 25 years ago...

    and still sounds futuristic

    Geniouss

  • @shamane999 I was thinking the same thing!

  • the guy that served me at McDicks tonight kind of looked the way Ogre does in this video.

  • does any1 know what kind of box Ogre is using for his vocals? seems like it would be fun just to get one and mess around with.

  • Ogre is using probably a vocoder and a delay

  • It's a Lexicon PCM-42 digital delay.

  • Wow! such great quality video and audio for 1986! This is just amazing!

  • fucking loved it

  • wow, fantastic

  • To Me Its Just Good Music.

  • Finally, I feel like I have to point out that it would be easy to perceive and make a claim that Rabies was a complete sellout compared to VIVIsectVI, and the Process was a total sellout compared to Last Rights, ... Are we really claiming now that, I guess, GWOTR is some kind of sellout compared to the Process? Does anybody that makes these kinds of criticisms actually have any familiarity with this band at all?

  • I love skinny puppy and I have never seen them as a sellout. The thing I wish would have happened on the last two records and future recordings is...it needs to be just cEvin and Ogre. To many hands in the pot if you know what i mean. they let everybody and anybody come in and it just seems to drowned out what we all want. good records but not skinny puppy. Example...skinny puppy in my eyes would be like the track Frozen Sky off cEvin Keys The Ghost of Each Room. That is skinny puppy.

  • The idea SP has somehow changed into some sanitized, acceptable product with the newest round of releases is simply apalling to me. SP has always been changing: palatable, pop sounding Far Too Frail and Smothered Hope, MIDI-intensive electronically dense VIVIsectVI, straightfoward heavy Guitar-rock (Tin Omen, Fascist Jock Itch), to techno-laden Blue Serge, to strings and piano on Amesia, to effects heavy Dub music (Stairs and Flowers), to live drums and studio-concept writing (LR) etc etc.

  • Somebody who does not see GWOTR etc. as a natural musical extension of SP, (in other words those who insist that they have 'sold out') is likely completely unfamiliar with the musical catalogue of either Key or Ogre, specifically their growth and direction in 1994-2000. To claim that the reunited SP has any lack of quality or purity is complete nonsense. Where were you guys during Download, PlatEAU, Tear Garden, Ritalin, KMFDM feat. Ogre, Cevin's Solo work, aDUCK, ohGr,etc?

  • when are people going to realize that sometimes bands go through those times and yes I have been a long time fan but even though a band puts out a few releases not well received I'm not going to write them off.....hell Back and Forth 6 to me is far superior than Back and Forth 7 most of the new SP material sounds like Oghr the new stuff has grown on me it just took longer ..

  • i definitely think ogre's vocal manipulation needs to comeback to the live shows...he sounds so lazy now.

  • lol finally, someone who understands how i feel about the new albums. cevin didn't do much on the new albums. that's why they suck. and i hate their later live performances with those two dudes pretending to play drums and guitar.

  • You cannot condemn bands as sellouts if they have a different vision of music. Because they are influenced or labeled industrial, it doesn't mean they have to sound exactly the same as skinny puppy or other heavy industrial.

Music isn't about loyalty to fans anyways, its expressing yourself through sound. If the sound you find more pleasing happens to have pop elements you are not focused more on money.

  • Shush!! Maybe they just got bored of taking too much acid?

Spoken by someone who prefers their weirder stuff, but maybe musicians are people too, and not too concerned about doing exactly what their obsessive fans order them to do?

  • Yep his mic is cutting in and out really badly at the beginning. He kept going though, even though you can tell he was aware it was screwing up...

  • noooooooooo!!!!!! porque quieraon este video no mamen, vayanse a la chingada, y ahora como lo consigo

  • fuck death cults like islam, christianity, and judiasim- they all suck- lets get real and rock on the skepticism

  • Yeah? And what do you propose?

  • Thanks for this. I can't figure out if the vocal effect in the beginning is intentional or not, though I'm leaning towards unintentional, since it occurs without regard for switches between verse and chorus and then just stops completely at a seemingly arbitrary point in the song. Even if unintentional, it sounds awesome--gives new meaning to the title of the song.

  • when your change your religion remember America screams, no islam/terrorist with its music. Please send a post card to Afghani

  • EPIC WIN!

  • I haven't seen that in years, thanks a lot.

  • fucking intense prestation! i love that

  • Yeah Wtf Dude you full of shit go sit on the toilet!

  • 5:16

  • lol does he cut his face with that knife?

  • yea lol

  • I would give anything to have witnessed one of their shows in the late 80s. I've seen them three time since they came back a few years ago and they're incredible live.

But nothing compares to their old shows.

  • i would have to agree. they put on one hell of a show. you definitely get your moneys worth...and then some.

  • what a strong commitment!!

  • Even with shitty sound, this song rules.

  • Skinny Puppy are gods. Powerful live appearance.

  • que pasados de berga creo que es la primera banda de trent reznor pero no se also try skinny pompis

  • If you cut off my head, what would I say? Me and my - me and my head or me and my body?

  • What a crazy question, eh? And it's a worthy question!

  • Holy shit. Skinny at their best...

  • This is groundbreaking stuff, man.

  • First I heard these guys was actually Rabies and I was hooked -- bought everything they had. I've since lost those CDs but I remember this on a live album they had and it kicked ass!

20 years ago and their sound is still avante garde. Awesome!

  • that's no go...

some people say ministry and NiN is industrial.

Genres are a bitch and only bring up endless arguments about what it really is.

I always assumed Throbbing Gristle was the only true Industrial group. Never really heard other groups that utilize synths to the extent that TG did, other than Coil. But Coil transcends everything by huge reaches

    rambling

  • Einstuerzende neubauten is certainly industrial. Listen to any of their cd's from 1980 - 92. Throbbing Gristle & Einstuerzende neubauten were 2 of the most obvious bands who arguably invented this genre accidentally or intensionally. EN is the shit!

  • yea, i foolishly forgot to mention EN, they do kick ass! I love the album Ende Neu.
