  • Are you sure this footage is from 1972? The reason I'm asking is because this song is off of Chicago 7,which didn't come out until 1974.

  • Danny mentioned in his DVD, The Art of Jazz-Rock Drumming, that he studied brushwork with the legendary Papa Jo Jones around this time in New York.

  • Some of the greatest drumming by one of the greatest drummers of all time.

  • Man, I had no idea Danny had such great brush chops. Let's see Tris pull that off!

  • hahahha, very good one!!!!!!...best regards and thanks for view my vids!

  • I may not play drums better than Seraphine but I've got better hair.

  • Y Pensar que lo echaron a Danny de la banda. Increíble.

  • awesome

  • @eddiewalker59. comparing drummers like neil and danny is insane... their both incredible and have their own style.... musiciancs should not be compared at all if you ask me

  • Where can I find a DVD of this?

  • Danny was and is the man on drums! Tris Imboden is a world class drummer for sure, but Danny for me is one of the finest drummers in the world in this genere of music. He allways was playin so melodic and tasty through the songs. Listen to the songs: Hotstreets, Skin Tight, Take me back to Chicago , Manipulation, just to name a view and you will here what a great job this man has done. Also Peter Cetera is most recognized for his vocal scills but one of the most underrated bassplayers of time!

  • Danny was THE DRUMMER in those glorious days and thanks God he's back after Chicago's offense in 1990 and hestill sounds great to this day.

  • I thought this was 1974, guess this was done in 72???? Amazing how these guys once were back in these days. The good OLD DAYS..........

  • HOLY SH*******!!! I love the virtuosity of this album. "Let's play whatever the hell we want!!!" Damn that was ballsy. I worshipped that gold cover!!! Best rock album of all time.

  • HOLY SH*******!!! I love the virtuosity of this album. It was so cool back in the day. I worshipped that gold cover!!! Best rock album of all time.

  • perfecto el solo del Sr.Dany Serafine,y perfecta la entrada que le da al grupo

  • perfecto el solo de danny serafine,y perfecta la entrada al grupo

  • Walt Parazaider has chunks of Kenny G in his stool.....

  • @nashtndawg He blows away Kenny G, don't even compare...

  • I remember the day I bought VII and put the vinyl disc one on the turntable, side one, then side 2...blew me away., unbelievable musicianship... Chicagos Jazz LP. DIsc 2 was a bit heavy on the ballads though it did incl the amazing "Wishing you were here" and "Searching..".

After VII came the Chicago rock LP VIII, oh just to show how this amazing band could cut anything,(and in any key).

Sure miss those old days of awaiting the annual Chicago album.

  • Holy Crap...where did this come from? I've most if not all their stuff ingrained in my brain, but have never seen or heard this..Simply Amazing!!!

  • @krevercomb

It's from Chicago VII, my personal favorite. The first 25 minutes are instrumental songs.

  • Delesious as one once said

  • I've always loved this composition. Showcases the natural skills of Walt and Danny.

Do any of you know which ARP synthesizer Robert Lamm and David J. Wolinski used on the studio version - or how Robert was able to generate those sound effects with it on "Italian from New York?" (I've long figured it was an ARP 2600, but I'd like some kind of confirmation.)

  • @CircleCityEric I'd also like to hear the current line-up try and tackle this baby. I do think Tris could match Danny beat for beat. And, Walt hasn't played that way for twenty-five years or more.

  • CHECK IT OUT !!! ALL REAL INSTRUMENTS - LIVE IN CONCERT, ON DA STAGE - AIN'T NO SYNTHESIZERS OR COMPUTERS !!!! UNBELIEVABLY TALENTED GUYS, MAN !!!

  • Taking Danny Seraphine out of Chicago took the jazz out of Chicago.

  • What an incredible drum solo ! Bring Danny Seraphine and Pete Cetera back to Chicago!

  • Well you really cant compare Peart to Danny. Contrasting styles. Peart is very good at what he does. No question. Danny is special though. By watching Kath feeling and moving with Danny during his solo tells me there was a special bond there. Kath and Danny Are Chicago.

  • So very much under apppreciated as real jazz musicians. To the critics out there ...'go back to grammmer school and relearn what good musicians tend to hold on the public. The sense of arranging sound into something wonderful and imaginary. This group can cut it in any key!!!Long live my Homeboys ......CHICAGO !!!!!!

  • Niko2100 & BANDMANWV-Regarding this album side on VII. Check out Wolfgangs vault (In case anyone doesn't know) for the the only live version of of Aire that I know of. If you haven't been there they have 2 excellent Chicago shows. 1 from Aug. 69 (before album #2 was released) and a show from June 74, both are audio only but a must listen. The 69 show is so tight to the album it's amazing. Imagine a show where their only material was CTA. They also introduce "The Road" from their new album.

  • Danny was absolutely great

  • Parazaider!!!!! He wrote this song!!!

  • @TokenRah kind of creepy

  • @TokenRah Walt and Danny both wrote this tune.

  • bit50s

Ah, you have a perspective that few even from the 70's have, much less today's generation. Of course, its a live performance and all the better for it. I miss them greatly.

  • This is Chicago, simply the best band ever!!!

  • That's Terry "it's not loaded" Kath. He's here and shook maracas as well as he played his guitar.

  • lol, yes, .. I meant Terry "it's not loaded" Kath.

  • Hahahaha as fucked up as that is, I laughed pretty hard at this comment.

  • Comment removed

  • Don't get your point, this gem is purely instrumental... nobody is going to sing this song...

  • Hey, these guys could play thier instruments at one time!!! I would like to see video of the album side this tune comes from it is a masterpiece.

  • @BANDMANWV

oh yeah you're right it is a masterpice and was written also by Danny Seraphine who takes this hot and wonderful drum solo

  • walter parazaider is freakin awesome. he's such a talented musician. he's such a great soloist too. good thing chicago still has the horns of loughnane/parazaider/pankow!

  • Be nice if someone could post the first 5 songs from the Chicago VII album. This version is all chopped up and sounds really null and flat.

  • Niko2100, This performance is from the Airie Crown Theater shows in 72, quite some time before the 7th album release. Most likely a work in progress I'd guess and the reason it's "choppy" compared to the finished album version. If we only have this one look it's still a treasure. Saw Chicago in Aug 73, in that show they performed Aire, introducing it as a new song. Some 6 months before the album came out. I remember it well. The 5th-6th & 7th albums are amazing, all within a couple year period.

  • The amazing danny Seraphine. One of the best drummers in rock history, no doubt! What a pity the others in the group had fired him from the band in that way. Danny we'll always follow and love you and your playing! From Mexico City.

  • Yes, Danny Seraphine's one of rock's most skilled and talented drummers. It's a pity he was eased out of or left the band after Chicago 19. "Devil's Sweet" was on side A of LP 1 of Chicago VII (a 2-LP set) released in 1974 so I'm delighted to see this fully fleshed out live performance from 2 years earlier...and the arrangement's exactly like the studio recording except for variations in Walt's soprano sax solo.

  • WOW Danny!!! nice to SE this song for the first time. Danny was my fav drummer. until Billy Cobham turned up. but Danny has always been there.

  • and he makes it look so easy

  • Make no mistake about this, what this video contains is what is easily the fastest drummer in the world, Neil Pert, give me a break! Not even close to Danny. For those who appreciate actual ability, this solo is for you! Walt Parazaider is also awesome on the Sax, to be sure!

  • @eddiewalker59 You know, I'm a big fan of Chic and Rush equally. But obviously you've never seen Niel Peart live. Especially since you can't even spell his name. Danny was great, but not even remotely close to Niel. Sorry.

  • @rodbender1914 well, i guess you cant spell it right either, its "NEIL" i would still take Danny Seraphine !!

  • @paulbarraza You're both wrong, if you're talking about Neal Peart.

  • @CrazyBear65 as much as Neil Peart is a great drummer, as i said, i would still rather have Danny Seraphine as my drummer, so i cant be wrong

  • Ho Danny! One of the greatest drummers in rock history, I love his swing. I just can compare him to Buddy Rich and Kuppa.

  • Chicago was a GREAT band with Kath/Cetera/and the ubelievable Danny. My respects to all.

The 'new'Chicago with the above mentioned is nothing but a high-end lounge band.

  • buen tema dany seraphine devi's sweet chicago VII ,albums gold and eventually become million-sellers,album to be recorded at caribou ranch, the teme aire, happy man

    (I've benn) searchin'so long, mongonucleosis,

song of the evergreen, byblos, wishing you were here, call on me, women don't want to love me ,, favorite...

  • Happy B'Day Walt (March 14th). We've missed you at the Spa (Saratoga Springs, New York) with your band the last few times around!

  • my favorite chicago tune! danny wrote this one!

  • The fastest I've ever seen or heard! the Incredible Danny Seraphine! ...Nuff said....

  • Danny is unbelievable! Pete's bass playing ain't too shabby either. Great stuff!

  • Wow. I can't tell you how great it feels to see and hear the real thing. These guys were so versatile. And Danny - well, it's hard to believe things ended the way they did with him and Chicago. I'm kind of glad he got out. No disrespect to Tris, but I don't think Danny was cut out to play ballads and all the other post-Kath era material the band was forced to do. Thanks for this post!

  • Ah! They cut out the best part of Devil's Sweet! They cut out that slow swing section at the beginning!

Any ideas on where the name came from?

  • Mindnumbingly explosive! Thank the Lord for a great drummer (Danny) and a phenomenal band (Chicago - at least in their 70s prime)!

  • This video is so good..... It shows well that Chicago could play EVERYTHING they wanted... what a great lose was the departure of Danny...He was one of the greatest drummer I ever known...and believe me, I still do hear thousands of drummer, and Danny is one of my favorite..

  • Bert, it was surely from 1972.........and it was recorded in Chicago. You can enjoy it, in a complete version, on the recently released Chicago's DVD contained on "The Best of Chicago" box

  • Fantastic stuff!

  • you just know they could of put out like tons of stuff like this..

thankful for this amount of heaven

  • Now I understand why I like so much Chicago VII, the jazziest album. Aire is the most played song in my iPod and one of my favorite Chicago's songs, but this one is simply awesome!

Chicago is in my opinion the best band ever! I apologize if some Beatle-fans feel offended about this comment.

  • Aire, was theme advertaising the Bacardi & Cia. beautyful arrengment.

  • Danny's on fire!

  • Danny sounds almost as beserk on this video as he does on VII. Good Walt clarinet...a bonus solo not part of VII. Thanks for posting. Any Aire??

  • Uh, that would be soprano sax...

  • In the name of the human race THANK YOU! ONE OF CHICAGO'S MASTER PIECES. Great Honor and Gloty to the great Maestroes!

Would you please upload "No tell lover", "What can I say", "Goodbye" (The complete V),"Street Player", "Skintight", "Upon Arrival" or the complete Videography of THE BAND.

  • This is from the DVD that came with the BOX set released in 2003.

  • yes it is i watch it alot =)

  • Miles away from the commercial crap that they got shoved in to by the label in the 80's. Thanks for the great music!

  • Didn't realize this tune was composed and performed well before it appeared on Chicago VII. It's like they saved their jazziest numbers for that album, which was meant to be their 'jazz album'. Jazz for them was dead commercially after that ... esp. after the success of the ballad 'If You Leave Me Now'.

  • chicago como siempre!,¡igual de chingones!!¡esta rola es una de las mejores piezas instrumentales del CHICAGO VII de 1973!¡chicago son los mejores!!.

  • Chicago at there very best, thank you showing us, do you have more ?

  • great footage - where did it come from?

  • Thanks for uploading this great vid!
