global warming is not a proven fact and yet the government would love to tax us on our energy use. the climate is changing, yes, but it is now more of a political issue to use for votes. even if we go, so called "GREEN". we would still need oil and gas. no way around it. REFORM IS A GOOD IDEA. people get the wrong idea when they hear "GO GREEN" and just all over oil companies! everyone is going to need to work together on keeping the environment clean. new standards!

@jeson86 I know it's a bunch of crap, another way to take our money. The earth has much bigger influences on it's climate than humans, Solar output has been higher in recent years but they won't admit that it's a factor, We should all stop paying taxes.

Excellent, I come across lots of academics, who know that global warming is a natural earth cycle, the climate models are flawed (rent-a-model). However funding for there dept./projects has to be tied to carbon capture/sequestation concepts/ideas. We will look back at this in 10 - 15 years and be amazed thyat we could be lead like sheep to adopt imperfect science.

Emotion: the feelings of those who see environmental policy as preserving their standard of living versus those of people who see it as a barrier to increased wealth. The former has made great strides recently.

There are decision models based on imperfect or incomplete knowledge. Those decisions are still being made, however, in the perceived best-interests of the decision makers, and not necessarily those of the rest of mankind.

Your $40 trillion argument is the most compelling I have heard.
