  • does anyone have acopy of his approx 1959-1962 lp i cant remeber the name of it but mine was destroyed much apre .

  • When Conway was at Sun Records all the gave him was crap to sing, I'm glad

got away from them. I got a lot of his older offbeat songs like Driving Me Wild

Next Kiss, This Road I Walk ect. I really enjoy listening to them myself, some oft them have to grow on you. Even back in the old days he would sing anybody;s song. He would speed them up to Rock & Roll., like he did with

Mona Lisa. Us old south side greasers back in the late 50s in OKC sure

enjoyed them. He was part of our times like Elvis.

  • more like twitty steals another black song and gets paid

  • @jarrod154

Oh, blow it out of your ass, silly. This is still distinctively, Conway. YOU must be white!

  • Super job Conway

  • Conway could sing it all. He;s always been my favorite singer since 1958.

Thanks for putting this song on here.

  • @albeelat That's a quite a while!

  • This version is AWESOME!

James Taylor has got a good version too, but I think I prefer this one.

  • sorry thats BEAR RECORDS

  • When I was a kid every one was an Elvis fan I was a Conway Twitty fan. I have ALWAYS thought Conway had one of the best and SEXIEST voices in rock and roll and when he growls well what can I say WOW.

For those who don't know The German Co Bera records has a 12 cd box set of EVERYTHING Conway ever did on MGM The Rock and Roll Years including the elusive Teasin'

Thanks for this video CONWAY will ALWAYS be the best.

  • Not only the guitar twang, but a finer voice too!

  • No way Conway.

  • @blinko656 definitely conway. it's pretty typical of his pre-country rock and roll records from the late 50's - early 60's.

  • @rockabillycat1954 Thank you..

  • God bless you for posting this, Sir! Have the vinyl with this, "Diana", etc...love the Fender guitar amp echo sound from that era! I have not researched it, but I'm guessing that Conway sold more music as a country artist than as a Rock & Roll guy, but I love his Rock & Roll stuff much more..."Lonely Blue Boy", " Danny Boy", etc...ever heard his version of "You'll Never Walk Alone" from his Rock & Roll era?

    Awesome Possum!...thanks again...The Tunesmith

  • @tunesmith09. Thanks for the enthusiastic comment. I transcribed this direct from the vinyl LP, a 70s re-release of his '60 album. Yes, all the tracks have a great lively sound.

  • Great song!

  • Jimmy Jones original song Handyman 1960

A YouTube search on the above will bring it to you. :o)

  • it is mr twitty before he went all country on us lol

  • My old man was always a fanatical Conway fan, and gave me his copy of this track by him in 1976, and I have been rocking ever since.

Look out for his early rockabilly stuff, it is amazing.

  • That's totally Conway. Listen to the phrasing. I never heard this version..but like it a lot.. thanks 4 posting!

  • Thanks for listening.

  • Uh,yeh i think it is

  • that is not conway singing

  • Who is it, then? Do tell!

  • sammy davis jr i think

  • del shannon

  • It's not Del Shannon - who recorded the best version of this song in 1964 - and clearly not Sammy Davis jnr, but a country singer branching out into pop. Conway Twitty fits this description but so do several others.

  • It's Conway. It's copied from a vinyl LP 'The Rock & Roll Story' from 1960. Look it up on conwaytwittydotcom, which has the track listings.

  • I've got the MGM LP this classic tune was taken from. RIP Conway - most underrated. His version of Danny Boy is toe tapping.

  • I transcribed this from a 1968 LP.

  • Sir Bas, I can't believe I have never heard this version before, It's Great. So well done,

    Barry

  • Ps. goin' right into my favourites.

  • ...the best place for it :-)

  • Darn tootin'! I TOTALLY agree Barry! I love this version of "Handy Man" the most. Ol' Conway was so much better at Rock 'n' Roll than country; but that's just my taste. My favourite part of this version is the backup singers; just heart melting! :)

    Nancy

  • Cool version! Nice stereo effect, sounds like the guitarsolo is performed somewhere outside the studio.

  • Thanks. I think that guitar coming straight from reverb heaven.

  • Very cool.

  • I LOVE THIS!!! I had the honor and pleasure of seeing this legend in Virginia...you could tell the minute he walked on the stage...this man was truly loved by his fans...GREAT POST SIR B...many thanks for expanding my world!

C'est Si Bon...(his version is so naughty!)

  • He does a good falsetto as well!

  • Conway is quite the rocker in GrandPrix1963's "A Million Teardrops" to this day...I still can't get over how good that song is!!! Should have been #1!!!

    ;)

  • Great post!!!

  • Thanks, it's a good 'un.
