they are not being exported currently there are not serbian rifles in the USA. only the YUGOSLAVIAN kits that came in years ago that were built into full rifles. maybe someday we will see serbian rifles but those are all being built in 5.45
@twizz420 Yugoslavia doesn't exist anymore. That being said. The title clearly says "Yugo" - that being said Yugo is short for Yugoslavian. Whether or not it was made in the Serbian District is irrelevant because Yugoslavia was the country.
@mminner1231 ...with a heavy barrel and a bipod. An ordinary AK wouldn't be as accurate at longer ranges, and wouldn't be able to fire on full-auto for as long (AKs are great, but if you pour several hundred rounds through them the handguards catch light, which isn't so much of a problem for RPKs).
Yugo made variants are not "copies" they are variants. BIg difference if you dont know what it means look it up. Second Yugo variants of AK47s are best in the world. Quality made since Marshall Tito was all into quality and was preparing for war for 50 years then he died and never saw it kinda sad... but anyhow these are among if not the best.
Just pointing out that this is in no way an actual light machine gun. More of a squad automatic. Light machine guns usually require the ability to fire more than 100 rounds without having your barrel become a lump of useless molten steel, and since RPKs can't change barrels, that means you have to be VERY careful about how much lead you throw downrange, or you'll end up with a nice piece of useless Russian weaponry.
@Sol417 And to qualify that, I mean 100 rounds per minute. Which if you're in a real deep-shit situation, it's very easy to exceed that without realizing.
As a collector(not in US) i own one of these. I also have full auto m70ab, M53,shpagin PPSh41 and thompson M1928A1. The irony is that full auto guns in US are harder to obtain/cost a fortune, but ammo is much much cheaper there, than in Europe. For example full auto m70ab2 cost about 500€-700€, thompson about 600€.
ok for those who say the rpk was inaffective S.A.W. because it was unable to fire continuously, all machine gun crews including 50 cal m60 etc train to fire short bursts 3 rounds is short burst 4 long burst continuous fire is not controlled burst fire it is continuous fire. suppression fire is usually continuous as it does not need to be accurate A thousand rounds landing all over is more intimidating then a hand full of them landing close to u but not hitting you. please research not assume.
@wepntech A thousand rounds landing all over is more intimidating then a hand full of them landing close to u but not hitting you- I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THAT. As a matter of fact ...that's a ridiculous statement.
also to further the point, this isn't designed to really be a specialized machine gun, it's designed to be something you could throw to any conscript trained for an AK to use. The soviets had a dedicated machine gun, the PK, this was just to be supplemental to that and to be less specialized.

I really think the RPK leaves a LOT to be desired if it is supposed to be a light machine gun for a squad. It fires from a closed bolt, and it doesn't have a quick-change barrel. How is a squad supposed to get continuous fire on an enemy if their machine gunner has to consantly let up to preserve the barrel?
Contrast that that with an M60, M249, or MG42. Open bolt (so no cook off and quicker cooling), and quick change barrel.
@migkillertwo Tell that to people up there who supplemented M249s with long barrelled H&K 416's. Magazine-fed rifles should never take the role of belt-fed machine guns.
@migkillertwo But the M60 had alot of problems with jaming caused by sand and dirt. But the RPK (or any Ak for that matter) you could bury in sand and still be able to shoot it without cleaning it first. Also during the Vietnamn invasion most american soldiers choose to keep the BAR over the new M60 for a support weapon.
I wonder if you have ever buried an AK rifle in sand and tried firing it. There's more than enough videos here on youtube to document that you CANNOT bury an AK in sand and expect it to function with combat reliability.
It's all soviet fighting doctrine. Squads in the russian army were large, and this was designed around quick bursts of high volume fire in fairly open ground. Not sustained urban combat like you see today or heavy bits of suppressive fire.
@migkillertwo Small mag capacity help some. Using the reg 30 or 40 Rd's mags. With a slow ROF of 600 RPM. makes it last a little longer. I understand what your saying, and agree.

@migkillertwo in yugoslavia its real name means "hand held machine gun" its not an LMG i know this couse i served with it 23 years ago we had a different gun for an LMG
@migkillertwo I guess the Russian policy is to have disposable soldiers? I completely agree with you though. I know the idea behind the AK is to mass produce them and give them to poorly trained soldiers and make up for everything with numbers. This however I believe would be an awesome firearm for a civi to own in semi auto.
You do know that the M60 weighs somewhere around 60 or so pounds. And tom feed the mg42 for front line combat you would need yet another squad carrying pretty much just ammo for the mg42.The only weapon you listed that is truely in the same class is the M249 SAW which is probably 10-15 years newer than the RPK.
@migkillertwo - The RPK replaced the RPD, so Russia really went backwards... granted, the RPK was expected to be shooting from drums, and have magazine interchangeability, it's still a poor performer for a LMG. the mags are too heavy and weighed more than linked ammo (cannot carry enough ammo), still no quick change barrel. The Yugo RPK is the best of the RPK's, but the RPK's are the worst of the LMG's
@b0sschunkz253 - The PKM while a great weapon, is still classed more as a general purpose machinegun, much like our M240B. They replaced the RPD (another fine weapon) with the RPK due to being lazy, and not redesigning the RPD in 5.45x39 with a QD barrel. had they done that they would have had a true LMG more inline with our M249. Romanian, chinese, and russian rpks have chrome-lined barrels. Yugo's don't because there's no local source of chromium in former Yugoslavia.
Also there's some accuracy advantage, but this is a SAW, accuracy doesn't matter nearly as much.
