This is the first time I've seen this video. This is one of my all time favourite songs.
Josh's voice is always like a 'Bridge Over Troubled Waters'....even if the 'waters' are tears of sorrow. He never fails to bring hope that things can become easier to cope with.
I wish you nothing but continued success, happiness and love... and I look forward to a future of smiles and tears whenever I listen to you. Thank you so much Josh.
I'd give him a bouncing Labrador retriever puppy. A pet that has the same humorous, exuberant joy of life that he does. Plus he needs a pet that has the energy to keep up with him.
hey where is that only the cube knows thing from...? i've seen the pics and i thought it was from the making of awake but i havent seen any videos of it...

Paul Simon is a song writing genius. Josh Groban is immensely talented, but in no way, shape or form does he compare to Art Garfunkel's counter tenor.
(cont.)This is a DIFFERENT version. Do I prefer this to the original? No. The original holds so many memories for me. Do I cherish this version all the same because it is my favorite artist singing my favorite song, and I think it sounds damn good? HELL YES. Thank you to NYjosher for putting this together...and your sound quality is AMAZING!
(cont.)Simon isn't even capable of that anymore (I rather thought he sounded a little like Bob Dylan this night). There was no intent to even TRY to match the original, so why is anyone judging it as such. And for those who say 'this song should start this way and end this way', it did, IN THE ORIGINAL.
My fav song of all time, since childhood is BOTW. The first time I heard Josh sing, I thought "OMG I'd love to hear HIM sing it." I had to wait five years. I was in the audience this night. In fact, you can hear my sort of whoop just before he starts to sing. It only stopped because I slammed my hand over my mouth. I was bawling like a baby. It is not the S & G version.
I haven't seen this in a while. So beautiful. And I'm one, too, that doesn't understand the couldn've, should've stuff. The performance was perfect for it's intent. It's a gorgeous song and S&G did a heartbreaking rendition years ago, so I don't think there were thoughts of matching that, just wonderful sounds by a musical master, Paul and the best voice ever, Josh. Tell us, did you get Paul's signature?
Hey Judy! I haven't been here in awhile...thanks for the comment. It was a thrill for me to actually meet Paul Simon and speak with him. As for the signature? He didn't sign it before I gave it to Josh...but when I saw Josh a couple weeks later at GMA in NYC, (with another sketch)...he recognized my work, and brought up the BAM sketch. That was pretty cool...!
Great video--just got a chance to watch it and I saw at 4:03 that's me giving Josh a gift! I love your sketches!
To those posting negative comments regarding Josh's interpretation of BOTW, I think that Josh's voice is so fantastic that he doesn't need "theatrics" or "embellishments" to enhance his performance...if you see my video of BOTW taken at BAM you'll see the audience's reaction to Josh's finale--spontaneous and heartfelt! go Josh!
Didn't Paul Simon invite Josh to perform at BAM? So I think Paul has been very impressed with Josh and his is the only one whose opinion counts on this one. Thanks Paul and Josh. Great job!
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. One person's opinion is not going to make or break a star. Some people need to find something wrong with everything they hear or see. My opinion Josh is as good as it gets. The fact he sold so many CD's (xmas - millions) in just a few months must mean something. Numbers don't lie. Josh will be around for a long time and his fans will be right there enjoying the ride with him. A super talent and a super person!!! Just my opinion...
Groban has a gorgeous voice, but if you want to hear a truly stunning version of this song, buy the live S & G album Starbucks was/is selling of their 1969 tour. Garfunkel has never sounded more pure or gorgeous. It's also mind-blowing to hear his intro totally understated, like: "Here's something that's going to be on the new album" then he announces the title, and no one applauds because no one has even heard of this song, then he starts singing. Gives me goosebumps everytime I listen.
But on two of the songs in this performance, "America" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water", in my estimation he misjudged the material. "America" needs to start in an understated way, then build to a grand climax. Groban gave it the full-bore treatment from start to finish. On "Bridge", by contrast, he stayed too much in control at the end, failing to finish with the wild abandon that the song demands.
Josh Groban was the only one to seriously disappoint me. The program quoted New York Times critic Stephen Holden:
His intonation is nearly perfect. He always sings directly on the note... He respects the melodic line of a song and brings to everything he sings an intrinsic sense of balance and proportion.
I mostly agree with Holden. Groban has a gorgeous voice. I'd love to hear him sing Vaughan Williams's On Wenlock Edge, or something by Cole Porter
Correct me if I'm wrong.....This is a total contradiction! You say Josh Groban was a serious didappointment(which, btw, I sooo much disagree with you), yet you quoted a very favorable review from Holden.
Josh was INCREDIBLE....and I have high hopes that "Silent Eyes" will be on his next album....and "Bridge"? I can dream.
You took the words out of my mouth...I was wondering how "Josh...was the only one one to seriously disappoint me" and "His intonation is nearly perfect" went together.

Sorry, I understand your love for Josh Grobam because is same of my love for Simon & Garfunkel version. Please watch and listening the clips from BOTW Old Friend NY 2003 and Concert in Central Park 1981. I smail:Paul Simon conclude the duet with Josh Grobam with a voice like a heartbreaking lament. He is right to complain. He ruined a song that is among the top 5 of all time.He would have had to invite Art Garfunkel who built together with him this great success
The contradiction is only apparent. The words of Holden should be read in their true meaning. Grobam has certainly a beautiful voice and his execution of BOTW is correct but strictly scholastic. The critic ironically suggests that he should confine itself to perform Vaughan Williams's On Wenlock Edge, or something by Cole Porter .
Singing with Groban at BAM Simon wanted to renew the song but has managed only destroy. Josh Groban has a great voice but he has no full understanding or personal relation to this song like Paul Simon or Art Garfunkel had. Simon wrote it for Garfunkel and the emotion is conveyed through his singing. There is no way Groban comes close to grasping that emotion. Plus Josh sings with voice baritonale unicorde. This song should be light and song in the head voice.
Such incredible moments in our lives....Mind if I quote ya from your "America" THREE MONTHS AGO?: "Can't wait to see what they do together. ANYTHING these two brains would come up with, would be spectacular." BAM, you're HOT!
Oh, and one more quote...."If you give it to Josh and he gives it to me, I'll sign it." Sail on Silver Girl!
Very nice slideshow!!! Thanks for posting this! Josh was just sensational. What an awesome experience for Josh, getting to sing with his idol, Paul Simon.

Thanks for uploading the audio, though! Did you record it yourself?
