  • This guy is a King In Piano!

  • Amazing!

  • totally just subscribed. never done that before.

  • Love it!! Fantastic last movement!

  • can you do Sunflower Slow Drag?

  • Hi again... I have just done Something Doing about this rag... Hope you enjoy it ;-)

  • Hi,

I thank you for posting of this kind of RARE ragtime, but very beautiful. Hearing your play, I accidentally found an error of my guitar arrangement, which I have just revised for my next posting... ;-) Thanks again and please wait for my version!

  • Last section - so much emotion, perfect!

  • I got a Scott Joplin rag book and I picked out a random rag to play, and I gave up trying to figure it out (since I don't really read music), so I said, "I'll see what it sounds like on Youtube, and waddaya know, someone posted it... thanks...! (and nice rendition, too- I did catch in his book where he said, "Rags are not to be played fast!" Surprise to me- since every person I've heard tries to play it as fast as they can, maybe due to boredom, maybe due to playing the piece too many times)

  • I think this one is my favourite. Thanks Choco

  • He is dancing at the piano

  • Hey everyone, I also play ragtime and am putting up new videos every week. If you would like to look at my channel and subscribe, that would be awesome!

    Thanks!

    -Joe-

  • One of the most simple but amazing rags Joplin ever wrote. It took me three days to learn this song by ear, yet it is brilliant work!

  • very nice !!!!!!! try to play "spesey cake walk" i fink that you can play that very good!!!!! anyway........very great!!!!

  • this is a great song. kudos!

  • this is way more talent than music today very great!!! =)

  • The most amazing part of your videos is your ability to memorize all these amazing classics and play them so effortlessly, with such emotion. Beautiful.

  • omg!!!! u're amazingggggggg XD now i will press like button and check other's pieces you played ;)

  • you're great on that piano!! You do Scott Joplin's pieces great justice!.:)

  • Nicely done - very good ragtime tempo!

  • jesus christ you're good. nice job man keep it up.

  • For a Super pianist like yourself, I know just how much dedication one requires to become a professional artist. So we should be paying you royalties as what you deserve in all the hard work you do with these compilations you have on your site.

I for one wouldn't mind buying your music as you have a great flare for music...

  • old..good times:-)))))

  • Dude!!!! you could get some serious tips at... well... anywhere really!! :-) envioiusly amazing :-)

  • You have a really great touch! Excellent.

  • wow, how many times do you have to play a piece before you completely remember it? Amazing....His playing is excellent as well.

  • @jeff94582 To be honest mate, i play all my songs from memory, I find it far easier to rely on muscle memory of a piece, hell i play a lot of songs with my eyes closed so i can really feel the music as i play it! Saying that, it takes me quite a few attempts before i can get a song down so i suppose I have a long to memory it.

  • your interpretation of the final section is magnificent.

  • Beautiful to hear, beautiful to watch. Thank You!

  • Man, your amazing---- By far the best ragtime player I heard on youtube. I literally listen to all your Joplin ragtimes while I am doing my homework...Very soothing to my ears, and keeps me focused on my work..Thank you so much...Keep it up.

  • @syhaile lol i listen to ragtime while i do my homework

  • same here, I'm doing homework right now

  • haha same! gets the brain functioning. Magnifico!

  • @syhaile My Husband agrees with you, like scott Joplin would say, dont play rag time fast, as printed on the unrevised text. Choco tiger rocks!

  • @syhaile Same here :D

  • Great to see a genius of the keyboards at play.

  • 10/5 stars.

  • Aww, man! It's like you're channeling Joplin. He would most definitely approve and you are without a doubt the best Joplin player I've heard (including the pros). Bravo!!!

  • thats a fuckin great piano

  • It matters a hell of a lot more playin it tho but yeah its fuckin beautiful pitcha nd everything!

  • Yeah I agree. His playing is superb tho.

  • hi chocotiger,

i'm listening ragtimes since over 30 yrs. love the way you play them. thanks alot.

    regards from germany: lars

  • I agree that Joplin would have approved of your playing, I think he would have loved it, I do anyway I think you are fantastic.

  • Chocotiger, I've only heard two of your Joplin rags, and I can tell already you are my favorite ragtime player of all time!!! You understand the exuberance and joy of the music! You don't play Joplin as if you're at a funeral -- as too many have done in the past. Do you have a Scott Joplin CD? If not, produce one, and I will buy it!!!

  • You are a true master of the 20th century!

  • chocotiger...can I have the sheet music of this piece!!!

it is so GOOd and happY!!!:P

    pls...thanks!

    :P

by the Way...your playin' is so gooood!

hope to be like you .."SOmEDAY..."

    :P

    thanks

  • I love your emotion-I'm amazed at how many people can play pieces like this sitting still!!! especially anything of Scott Joplin's.

  • EXCELLENT performance of one of my very favorite ragtime compositions! :-) AWESOME!! 5 Stars!!

  • MUito bom1 O pianista toca com muita naturalidade e no andamento certo como pediu o Scott Joplin. Congratulations!

  • Translation : Very well! The piano guy plays with a lot of naturality and in th right time as Scott Joplin ask!

  • HOW MUCH IS YOUR PIANO?

    YOU'RE GREAT:)

  • it looks like its a yamaha just go to yamahas site

  • A lot of people have said that the reason that Joplin said his rags shouldn't be played fast is that in his later years his hands weren't able to keep up due to his illness. I'm sure Joplin would've approved of chocotiger's renditions of his works.

I agree that rags shouldn't be played slow, but neither should they be played fast. A lot of things are better if you take your time to enjoy them rather than rushing through it.

  • ok,But you have the tendebcy to play a little slower than it should be.

  • Very well played if a little slow. Many people say Joplin should be played slow but his actual instructions on how to play his pieces were usually 'Not Fast' rather than slow.

  • Another great performance. Total mastery of tempo and great phrasing. Well done indeed. Keep up the great work.

  • Xsilord, cant help but agree 110% with you ;D

  • Awesome job on Something Doing. Played with just the right beat and tempo.

  • Joplin's own recording is MUCH faster.

  • True, but he also wrote the song and had a much better grip of the chords and better comfort level of playing it quickly. I know from personal experience that this song...especially the last theme, can be a cacophonous nightmare if played too quickly when not totally comfortable with the chords. I still think Chocotiger did a remarkable job.

  • makes me think of a bandido in a saloon... just before the tequila sets in.

  • Can't help but think about Charlie Chaplin haha, or a pre-brawl wild west pub scene :)

classical, emotional piano can get boring at times. The fun 'marx brothers' style piano never fails to make you smile =D

  • Wow, u sure do like Jolpin's music

  • Wonderful

  • wow

  • Really well played! I can't wait to start learning this sort of music. It's got such a nice feel to it. Contemplative.

  • start learning it now! this song in particular isn't toooo difficult

  • i agree, this song isn't that hard. If you look at songs like Felicity Rag and Pine Apple Rag, there are a lot of chords in those songs. This song barely has any chords.

  • I agree that Something Doing is relatively easy to play. If you want a real challenge with it, try adding rolling bass passages instead of the traditional three step rise that's written into the music. Joplin actually recorded his piano rolls with such passages, as well as Ann Charters (The same as the author of the Jacques Chirac biography) when she recorded some of his songs on her 1960 album, The Genius of Scott Joplin.

  • I correct myself, it was the biography of Jacques Kerouac, not Jacques Chirac....not sure where I got Chirac from, LOL

  • tramendous

  • keep up the good work man, your awsome player

  • wow, chocotiger, you sure do play the piano really well

  • shit dude, that was pretty awesome, even for you!

  • I'm in love with you.

  • Wonderful.

  • I love it!

  • Take THAT Mozart! HA!

  • Really great performance!

  • perfect

  • nice! great peice and performance!

  • "genial au natural" Very talented player, keep up the great vids choctiger and good luck in all you do.

    Thank you.

  • hey wussup! Anybody has the sheets of this music? the song is so preety, and the performance is nice too :)

  • Hey Chocotiger. Love your work. I am also a big fan of Dwight Yoakam as well.(Yes, I know, quite a contrast eh?) and it's amazing how few "views" his postings have received. Your a much bigger YouTube star than him. Well done. How about some new stuff

  • wow this kinda sounds like Easy Winners in the middle...

    Great playing, as always :)

  • I totally agree with guigul2006. First and foremost, the music should entertain. You are fantastic. I am working on many of his rags and you are certainly an inspiration. Thank you for sharing.

  • wspaniale Pan gra. podziwiam Panśką dokładność. Czekam na więcej utworów :D

  • Watch all of his rags. This guy's a viruoso.

What I love is unlike other posters, he just sits down, nails the shit out of it and DONE.

    SICK, man totally sick..

(4u haters nay-saying, he's fast and slow. He obeys the piece he's recording. Some are both or one or the other.. lay off or post better)

  • Virtuoso, no. I wouldn't go that far. Technically he's good. But what doesn't make him great is he needs to inject feeling into the piece. It feels like too much hammering to me.

  • Great talent! compliments.

  • No ragtime was ment to be played at a slow pace that can linger on fast. Joplin says"Never play em fast, and youl get that strange entoxicating affect we intended"

  • classic rags are usually played modereto or slow. however some rags like the black and white rag are supposed to be fast.

  • Totally NO.

They ARE ment to be slow. Most of them. There are some exceptions, but most should be played slowly. A lotta ppl play it ugly fast, and that's why ppl had get used to fast rags.

  • all right guys- just to clear something up, rags ARE supposed to be played slow. if you take a look at an original joplin rag, he has specifically written "not fast". not trying to be a dick, im just pointing something out that aaron and tomi have also done

  • To clear another something up, SOME rags are meant to be played slow....there's no way on God's green earth that Scott Joplin wrote Maple Leaf Rag and was like "Damn, this should be slow".....

...as with all songs, every different genre, and whatever type of piece, they each have their own quirks, not all are the same, etc. etc. etc......

  • lol, true

  • This song was written by Joplin AND Scott Hayden

  • omg you bring back scott joplin in all your videos!!!!!!!

  • AWESOME!

  • Can you play Sensation by Scott Joplin? If you can you should put a video of that up because I love that song.

  • sensation is by joesph lamb

  • oh ya i forgot... it was arranged by scott joplin though.

  • You are really good at piano playing ... It's just that Somthing doing is played much, much faster. :)

  • Sorry, but you are not right. Ragtimes usually moderato or even slower. A lot of people play them way too fast. This tempo is great.

Although I must admit that the slow part at the very end of this - by the way great - performance is a bit too much for me.

  • Great job, keep uo the good work.

  • Scott joplin will never die ! thank you

  • BRAVO !

  • greeting from another Scott Joplin fan - your playing beats everything

  • Try doing the Magnetic Rag. Or Scott Joplin's New Rag. You've already played basically all of my other favorites...(If you've already got requests, then you don't have to)

  • Hey, awesome playing!!!

But the song name really creeps me,

    Something , Doing

    SOMETHING - you know what(**x)

    DOING - well, doing it

  • I had this song on a computer game 4 years ago. still love it. great job

  • Nothing like logging in to see a new subscription and it being even better than the old stuff =D

    Keep it up

  • I am pretty sure that this comment and my rating (5 Stars) will be buried under thousands of others by this afternoon.

  • Amazing!!!

you are the future rag time player!!!

  • Ace, love it!

  • Great!

  • Superb. This may be your best yet, Mr. Tiger. Just for fun, you should try to find a tack piano to optimize the old-timey sound.

  • Thank you! It's really good. :D You're very talented.

  • THANKYOU! Thank you for requesting this piece, and thank you chocotiger for playing it with such style and emotion.
