"Dukes of Dixieland was a New Orleans dixieland revival band formed in 1948 by brothers Frank Assunto, trumpet; Fred Assunto, trombone; and their father Papa Jac Assunto, trombone and banjo.
Their first records featured Jack Maheu, clarinet; Stanley Mendelsohn, piano; Tommy Rundell, drums; and Barney Mallon, tuba and string bass.
During its run the band also featured musicians such as Pete Fountain, Jerry Fuller, Jim Hall, Herb Ellis. And Bob"Duke" Assunto [Son]" - wikipedia
"Pete [Fountain] only joined the group for a gig in Chicago and one LP for RCA. This is probably Jerry Fuller."-- "djclarinet" (comment section of /watch?v=-hLT73VifzI)
Fabulous group! I have the first nine albums of theirs on Audio Fidelity vinyl and they are part of a treasured collection. It wasn't until I was 18 that I had the opportunity to see and hear them in person, in New York City at the Metropole Cafe on Seventh Avenue in midtown Manhattan. An experience I'll never forget.
I discovered a great Dixieland band on YouTube....The Carling Family from Sweden. Check them out and especially watch their videos from 1984 when one of the members, Gunhild Carling was only 9 years old.....she'll blow you AWAY with her playing, particularly "Muskrat Ramble" It's worth seeing, trust me. I enjoy seeing/hearing other bands, but the Dukes are still my favorites. THANKS WAHAM !
wow what a treat to hear them again. thanks waham for the posting...I joined papa jack in 1982 at the world dixieland jubilee in Sacramento, Calif...I remember dad bringing me to the Blue Room in New Orleans to see them play..I was 7 then.. thanks again for the post
I love it. This song really gets me going.
