Watched the whole vid of basic shit everyone knows, just to see the ironing of the seam part, which I don't know about. And you cut the video off.....Thanks....So did it work or not with a household iron??
@dixieunited Mylar blocks all light and is a little tougher then the foodsavers. Some people use both. Seal em in mylar and put that in a food saver. Most people mylar then buckets.
@OurTimeIsOut I usually freeze for a couple of days, unfreeze for a day or two, freeze again and after that, I let it sweat it out, and finally store.
I've heard you can use one of those "Food Saver" sealers on Mylar bags and it will pull the air out, and give a great seal on the bags, know anything about that?
Will you be rotating your stock and using directly from that mylar stored source ongoing or will it be set back strictly for long term use in emergencies only?
question for ya. Can you do a video of things you would store to go with the items you stored in this video like your kids and things wouldnt eat just plain oats all the time or plain rice what else do you store to go with these things?
it has been reported to kill insect infinstation and their eggs , you freeze the product for thirty days , let it thaw for three days , freeze it for thirty days , then you seal it with an oxygen absorber
Do a search on youtube for that. You can do it but it involves using a regular vacuum sealer bag as the mylar doesn't have the air channels needed to get the vacuum.
I'll be interested in seeing how the buggy rice fares. S'pose it depends on how long the bugs can survive in a very low-oxygen environment. So yeah, I'm looking forward to a 2, 3, 4...6 month check in on that bag. Keep us posted!
Do you use 3.5 mil or 4.5 mil Mylar bags?

I use an old CO2 paintball tank to blow CO2 into my bags, hopefully displacing O2. Sound good?

Quick question: After you open the regular mylar bag, can you repack and reuse/reseal the bag again?
watuwaitn4 7 months ago
Well at least in the bag it was just the lesser of two weevils.
znotzelda 7 months ago
You could freeze the bags after sealing them if you are really concerned about bugs in the food.

@angie7dino - if stored in say a 70 - 80 degree temp range, rice should stay good for 20+ years.

@survivalistboards
Great video, just two questions though:
A) Which website if any, do you recommend for Mylar bags?
B) Any tips for killing the insects in food, or is being oxygen depraved good enough?
ViciousRanger 7 months ago
@ViciousRanger the website he talks about is in the video for mylar bags and as for the bugs no oxygen no life.
