0:03 "Now, humanists, Atheists, and Agnostics and "their beliefs"... You mean scientific proof that everything else is rubbish? That's what you mean right?
i get a headache if i think too much, when i think about god, when i try to think he exists, i feel so much better, that everything is fine, that is what reinforces the believer's belief. they dont want to lose that sense of security.
Why is British television have so much more substance? I am sick of the history channel running programs on Notradomus and how the world will end... and Ice Road Truckers. WTF fellow Americans?
The BBC has "The Learning Zone" which is a bunch of educational programmes meant to be used in school - it gets broadcast at stupid hours of the morning so that teachers can set their video and record them overnight.
Good idea - like "The Open University" which is roughly the same thing but for University students.
It's good to use "dead" airtime for something useful.
I can't get past the title. "Secular Believers"? It is not a belief, but more profoundly a logical deduction that there is no such creator. Belief systems require no evidence whatsoever.
@drche420 you cannot prove that there is no Creator using logical deducation, the absence of proof for something does not prove its non-existence. That's a logical fallacy
I like the idea of"bright" too, but it has an unfortunate connotation: that anyone who is not "bright" is "dim", and I can see how some people would be a bit annoyed at that ...!
2:30 "I'm an atheist - someone who doesn't BELIEVE in god"
That's a definition of atheism from the past; a definition that was concocted by religionists, and which contains religious bias.
If modern atheists were to redefine their atheism on their own terms, it would be something like 'a rejection of religious explanations of the universe'.
'...doesn't believe in a god' is too passive. It sounds like an opposing belief in itself. 'Rejection' is a much more appropriate, accurate word.
It doesn't really work like: "Atheist - Agnostic - Theist"
But rather like this:
Gnostic theist - KNOWS there is a god
Agnostic theist - Thinks there is a god
Agnostic atheist - Thinks there is no god
Gnostic atheist - KNOWS there is no god
I am an agnostic atheist.
And in that sense, we're all agnostic, since no one has proof either for or against the existence of a god, or several.

@joyousmon
I agree with you. That's why, as an atheist, I take the position of being unconvinced of any gods existance. I am not claiming nonexistance.
drche420 7 months ago 2
@joyousmon thats true. fairies, loch ness monster, bigfoot and god all may exist.
dirkadirkabro 2 months ago
@joyousmon then why assume that god is the right answer? when others are far more believable? childhood brainwashing, perhaps?
