  • I've been listening since 2005 or so, to this exact piano music, I had no idea it was Fan-based covers, you should definitely look into working for RPG companies, with musical creativity like this, you could do what Nobou does to FF games and turn them into works of art :)

  • Amazing as always

  • Much better than Aerith's theme

  • I keep thinking I'm listening to the official recordings... very nice

  • GREAT JOBB :")

  • NICEEEEEEEEE.

  • how long will it take until i play at this level? (beginner noob)

how many hours per day, how many days per week for how many years?

  • @dkblade27 It all depends on how dedicated you are. And remember that practice doesn't make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect.

  • after remembering that marvelous song from FFVIII, then checking your video to have a glimpse of the "piano collections version" of the song... well, I began practising this one, and now it's done! thanks dude your video helped me quite a bit during some of those hard passages :)

  • ...comment got cut off. Gah.

What I wanna say, chords are made from notes, a song is based from a series of chords (that's why there is such thing called chord progression). If you look closely at this song, the verse loosely follows a I-IV-V-I progression. Just because the chords name are not written on the music sheet, that does not mean they aren't there.

  • I've had a hearty laugh from the below comments. Truly classic.

    Btw:

@aaamitusgi: I don't get what you mean by he's playing the wrong chord. He's playing exactly as the notes you mentioned in one of your comments which i think is A major ninth chord (A C# E G# B). Unless you're saying the notes are incorrect or the arranger made a mistake, I would say he played it perfectly.

@nickz777: You sir, are confused. Like mentioned, chord is made from a group of specific notes (like the A major chord

  • Only game that made me cry. 'nuff said

  • so many good tunes on VIII's soundtrack, this is definitely one of my faves.. well played!

  • Just wanted to say...the very first chord played in this video isn't correct.

  • @aaaMitsugi what chord? it's clearly he's playing it with notes..chords are just there to make the life of a pianist easier.

  • @nickz777 Nick...do you actually play the piano? Chords are made up of notes. Do you know what a chord is? I think you'll take back your comment that "chords are just there to make the life of a pianist easier", when you're playing 6 note 10th in Chopin's Scherzo No. 2 or something equivalent that makes your hand feel like the shape of the bones in it are changing.

The first chord wasn't right, that's all I'm saying.

  • @aaaMitsugi i know my notes and chords so don't tell me to take my words cuz I mean it..try comparing notes with chords. i grew up playing with the notes and music sheets so I find them easy but when I was introduced to chords i find them easier cuz you don't need a 3 ot 5-paged music sheet to play..you just need to know what chords to play and add in some taste into it if you know what I mean. so stop saying that he got the chord wrong cuz it isn't a chord at all. he's reading the notes..

  • @nickz777 Dude are you stupid? You obviously don't know your notes and chords because at exactly 0:03 in this video. He plays 2 chords. One in each hand. Are you trying to say he isn't? Tell me he literally doesn't play 2 chords there and I will laugh.

What kind of music are you playing where you complain about a 3-5 page score of music? I just finished Chopin's Scherzo No. 2 and it is 17 pages long. Look at the video. Even a VERY short piece like AMI has at least a 3 page score.

  • @aaaMitsugi dude, i should ask you the same thing. notes and chords are like atoms and molecules..should I explain that further through that thick head of yours?

and clearly why would he have music sheets if he's using chords?? go ahead and laugh..haha. i'll laugh with you.

and you say that pressing the keys in order makes that a chord? hmmm..

and having a hard time with 17 pages? maybe that screwed your brain a little to think everything's made up of chords..

  • @nickz777 I already said that. I said, "Chords are made up of notes," and as wikipedia states, "A chord in music is any set of notes that is heard as if sounding simultaneously." At what point did I ever say otherwise?

Second, He is using sheet music. Did you watch the video? It is literally right in front of him on the piano.

I never said "that pressing the keys in order makes a chord." When did I say that? Can you read?

  • @aaaMitsugi ok, at least we agreed on something. but what is a music sheet? if you say it's made up of notes AND chords, you'll have to go back to your piano lessons and start all over.

and second of all how can you make up chords if you don't have any notes? what I mean is you can't play a piece without knowing the notes first. you can know and make up the chords after you know what the notes are..you get what I mean?

and I never said that you said that..

  • @nickz777 Nick. It's clear that you have no idea what you are talking about. Stop trolling.

  • @AnimeAddictsPodcast Thank you for that. I must say I agree.

  • @AnimeAddictsPodcast all you know is anime and chords..what do you know about # and flat notes even though you use music sheets? simple question yet I bet you'll search in google for answers..and I'm not trolling, i'm giving out facts

  • @AnimeAddictsPodcast and btw, what's your business here? didn't your mom ever tell to don't go to and mess with other people's business?

  • @nickz777 In fact, I just spent a moment finding the sheet music score for this piece. The piano score literally from the beginning shows: A, E, A, then 2 chords (left hand: C#,E,G#,B. Right hand:C#,E,G#,B).

I don't know what he is playing but that is what is in the score. I'm cautiously assuming you can read sheet music so go find it.

  • You put so much feeling and emotion in your playing. Just incredible..

  • good work ..... :)

  • I know all pieces have there difficulties, but which would you say is easier: Eyes on me, or this?

  • Irvine: Sefie wacha playin?

    Selphie: WAR!..

    oh those memories...

i wonder how Rinoa looked like when she was young...

her childhood became not so good.. her mother died at the car crash when she was five..

  • Amazing. Just, Amazing.

  • oh do you have like a compilation to download your songs?

  • absolutely beautiful! I'd like to hear more from you :)

  • Great job on the piece really loved it!

Reminds me of the days where FF was touted as having one of the best graphics, storyline, gameplay and characters. However, I feel the FF series wouldn't have been as legendary without its accompanying music. Pity current pieces in FF 12 and 13 lack the soul and memorability of its predecessors. Just my 2cents worth. Cheers to all true fans out there~

  • @contraryy Agreed. Nobuo Uematsu makes these games worth playing.

  • @contraryy I think that's the MAIN reason these Final Fantasies were so praised. People argue their great battle system, and scenario... and characters... and graphics. Sure. But that only makes a game excellent... not legendary. To enter the Video Game Hall of Fame, a video game needs more.

    They had Uematsu's music.

  • @contraryy

I don't know why but in newer final fantasy games, I dont have as much memorable moments, perhaps it's because in the older series we read it and that stuck in our head versus us listening to voice actors

  • my favourite part was from 0:00 to 3:13 :D

  • do you have a score for this? it's awesome! :)

  • Top class.

  • Excelente, muy buen trabajo!!!!

  • I love the community of people that final fantasy has impacted, in one way or another. big or small, it played a part to all of us and that's rad

  • @richardhasangels agree 100% with you. FF brings me into a new world every time from its characters, story and especially music. i remember i was listening to a FF8 music playlist i made repeating nonstop and i ended up not doing any homework that night because i was just leaning back on my chair with my eyes closed. i honestly didn't care haha but yeah, FF has impacted me so much and i can't think of any other game that has had a greater impact on me.

  • @tubshiya haha, I've done the same exact thing! Once I start listening, I zone out and don't get anything done.

  • perfect :) i love your hands

  • seemed to me excellent sound quality very good

  • seemed to me excellent sound quality very good

  • You sir are my Hero!!!!

  • your music sounds better then the original piano collections for some reason.

  • bravo

  • Need sheet music of this song for FREE?

    :D

    get it here "ScoresBox . C O M "

  • perfection!!

  • goSHHHH i gotta finish the game again LOL

  • I totally love this game! This reminds me of Trabia, and that mind-blowing scene! You know, where Irvine tell them about their past at the orphanage? I was completely caught off gaurd! I thought at first it was just Quistis and Selphie who grew up with him. (My sister spoiled it, and was grinning at that point, so I thought that it was almost over.) Now THAT is what you call a plot twist!! Dude, you're really good!

  • @2RandomGirls wow a chick playing FF, I LIKE :P

  • This literally just brought me to tears, I haven't played this game in years, and just remembering the beautiful storyline while listening to this is an absolutely amazing feeling.

Your technique is amazing, I wish I could play even half as good as you do, and I usually don't like electric pianos, but yours is really great!

  • FFVIII Is one of the best..but the title of Best goes well deserved to FFVII I mean...The stories of both..make me fucking wish..But...FFVII has had and will always..have an Impact

  • amazing. thank you for posting.

  • You brought me to heaven for a moment there, my favorite FF pianist on Youtube so far!

  • wow you play this very good :) i just can play ami from final fantasy 8 on piano but i can´t play all of ami its to hard but I play ami every day to learn it to play better and better ... and maybe later I can play it like you :) [sorry for my bad english , but i am from germany and i learn english just for 3 years :) ]

  • I'm starting to work on ear training and I was wondering ... was this written in a minor?

  • @TinTinFtw

Either A Major or F sharp minor, can't remember

  • Fantastic Romance, I loved it.

  • sweet and beautiful song....

  • i lovee this.

and crap, the sheets i got for this say otherwise from yours...

  • Amazin song!!!!

    Great piano player

2:04 to 2:10 the best part of the song, in another arrengements some people keep on with this melody a little longer

  • i love this song, and final fantasy VIII, it has a special place in my heart. 5*

  • Bravo! that was gorgeous, thx for posting

  • cool!!!!!!!!!!!

  • beautiful

  • Final Fantasy will be forever in my mind.. this music stuck in my head!! love it! i wish i could play that too.. you make me inspired again.. how sad

  • Comment removed

  • Oh wow...

I am stunned into silence. Almost. ;P

I couldn't remember what "Ami" sounded like from the game, so I thought 'I like Final Fantasy VIII, let's hear it!'

It wasn't until about 0:25 that I recognized it. Hearing the tune and suddenly recognizing it made go 'awe...'

I remembered all the cheesy but sweet moments in this game that are all tied to this song, I feel a huge nostalgia. In tandem with hearing it played so well is... awe inspiring. A feeling greater than the cosmos itself.

  • I couldn't have phrased that better... :_(

  • @SeishinNoIro ye Ami is awesome. If you kinda pay attention.. it seems to be a mix between like.. Balamb Garden, Fisherman's Horizon, a small bit of Eyes on Me (you gotta be pretty attentive to hear it), and something else I haven't quite picked out yet lol. I love how Nobuo can just do stuff like that. Take 1, or multiple songs, and change it up to make it sound like a completely different song. Just awesome.

  • a) good job dude, you make it look easy

and b) viii is one of the best games ever. people who say otherwise just couldn't figure out junctioning lol

  • So fucking true... on both points :D It is really nice to see you play... makes me want to try it out myself... im not much of a piano player and wouldnt call myself one either :P. And FF VIII is far better than the other FF games I have seen... played some of VII and didn't even finish it ... I didn't find it half as entertaining as VIII... and the ps games I have seen all seem sort of boring. Great job on the vids. Peace

  • lol, b) was great :)

FFVIII have that special place in my heart. It was my very first RPG ever.

  • @amaj83

mine too !!! so yeah, exactly what you said. =)

  • @BLueEyeButterfly No, people who say otherwise have this thing called an opinion.

  • @OhGodMyOpinion

    mmk.

  • @BLueEyeButterfly true!!! such a beautiful masterpiece of art ff8 was.

  • @BLueEyeButterfly no fucking shit man....that cracked me up, i fucking LOVE FFXIII and people give it so much crap! The Junctioning system could have been slightly better, and i LOVE the game, but man...the motherfucking story, oh man. Best Story to a video game ever, by a huge margin. I am Squall personality-wise. to a T... I loved the hell out of FFXiii, all you haters can eat a dick. (not to mention, Omega Weapon w/o holy wars is the hardest boss, gotta be ever, that i've played at least)

  • Comment removed

  • @BLueEyeButterfly The Spoony One would disagree with you.

  • @BLueEyeButterfly It shocks me how much bad rap the junction system gets, I personally found it fun and not even that hard once you got the hang of it.

  • @Eweiit exactly.

  • @BLueEyeButterfly How about we start a youtube war on which is better FFVIII or FFVII ? xD

(youtube rules: only below the belt or borderline-Godwin arguments tolerated)

I'll start: those gray speech-ballons were sooooooo lame!

@Arkton : a very nice technique and interpretation! Maybe, you could try to make the different parts to sound more different and cover the whole range pp-mf that suits this kind of piece. Though, I must say, at this point, this is really a matter of personal preference.

  • @TheIncredibleGodzy i really couldn't argue! vii feels ALMOST overrated, but it isn't because it's got the most badass story ever. my point is that personally i liked viii just as much as vii, if not more. but i can't ever be sure.

i'd start with something along the lines of- who could compete with sephiroth? coolest character and plotline.

  • I love the fact that you don't rush your piece, you take your time. I just watch your version of eye on me and it was realy good. This is exactly how tifa's theme must be play, I don't know why you move the tempo a lot in this one, because hearing you play like that show me that you understand what you play am I right?

  • you never seize to amaze me

  • si tu parle français, je dirais que tu est le maître du piano des final fantasy, moi même un fan, je dis no comment! very perfect!!!

Anonyme, fan best FFVII and FFVIII

  • this song is one of my favourites from FFVIII

  • Beautiful song. It needs more views.

  • hey dude awesome playing; those beginning high notes sound nice!! Man I love the quality of sound on your videos. Mine sucks :( What do you use to record?

  • he recorded the song on his piano and then sync it with the video

  • oh ok thanks man

  • You're good, I think you are formally educated in playing the piano.. You have sheet musics in front of you.. Unless, if it's just a props.. haha! Anyway, very expressive way of playing that piece dude.. Keep it up.

  • isnt this from Balamb Garden from ff8?

  • It played most memorably in Trabia Garden when they are reminiscing about their childhoods together.

  • Can you give me some piano lessons pl0x =D

  • I never beat FFVIII but I did find playing to be interesting. I like the music to but the game was fun.

  • to twilightdawn- omg same here. played 4 times never beat it.

love the music and storyline and characters on ffviii the most

    lol

i stopped at the part where you are about to reach the underground research center for bahamut. lol.

  • Characters are always a bit cliché in FF. But I still think that the story and battle system of FF VIII aren't really goods.

Flying universities making war ? Come on...

The GF system was quite shitty too, compared to the FF VI system wich has been put in FF IX.

And unfotunately for it, FF VIII was released just after the most legendary of all Final Fantasy, so it suffered from the comparison...

  • it was 1998-1999. I think Squaresoft was experimenting alot of ideas, well they never put the same battle system on the next final fantasy series, cus yea it was not that good. But at that time, compare FFVIII with other games, it has way better quality of its own gameplay, storyline, graphic and soundtracks <33

  • i loved it way more than seven or any other ff game so this is your opion. Me and im pretty sure mostly everyone else does not agree with you. seein how as most of us typed in ffviii towatch this

  • atually people hated FF7 when it came out and the people who did like it were freakin crazy

the story for 8 was good and nice you haven't gave it a chance

  • Anyway... We should stop debating about the game and listen to this awesome composition of Mr Uematsu.

And thanks Arkton for this wonderful in terpretation :D

  • lol in what way was it shitty?

  • Let's see. The plot was all over the place, the GF system was horrid...what else. A good majority of the characters were bland and uninteresting. The only shining part of VIII was the soundtrack. Flame all you want, but IX was the superior game.

  • in what way was i flaming?

  • huhu you didn"t get deep enough in the story to have the luxury of such a comment. The GF system was well developped and balanced for someone who actually took time to analyze and optimize it. As far as character personality goes it's nothing short of ff7 and more specificaly ff9 who have a lot of cliché characters (Zidane being very first)

  • you know what?

I don't care what anyone says about the plotline and characters and stuff, i still think it was a damn awesome game. And characters were bland? Come on, Irvine was freakin awesome! :)

  • your the man

  • Exactly! If people didn't like the GF system, they just didn't know how to use it properly. It's very rewarding after being able to junction all the stats so that I can customize my characters as much as I want, and exactly how I want it. If people hated Drawing, then use the god damn Refining abilities (SO much easier). Including what you said, Final Fantasy 8 is just as good quality as the other games if people are willing to give it a chance (for me it was past Disc 1 when I got hooked).

  • even though i havent played ff8 for a while, from what i remember the story was pretty good not as good as ff7 though. the gf, battle, draw magic was really good. i also really liked junctioning magic to abilities, and i think thats one of the best systems to date.

    good playing btw.

  • the only irony in FFVIII is that ultimecia's origin is not discussed i dont know where she came from but great game!!

  • Some people said Ultimecia is actually Rinoa from the future. There's an entire discussion about that, you should read if you're interested.

  • i must admit i loved FF9 and the music and i may have not completed it it wasn't better in terms or battle, story, or charaters

  • but most FF fans finds it as the weakest FF ever but i still love the game too... favorite was FF10

  • my apologies to the other people who have played this and posted it, this is the only version i feel is worth listening to...

  • ;______;

    s-so great.<333

  • i just want u to no that this is my 1st time replying to any one and that all ur work has touch me. keep up with the good work. :)

  • I heard this song before, this is the song of Balamb Garden, right? Your song is the greatest! You're very talented! Your arms "singing the song" and "you teach the arms how is the song goes". This song is amazing!

  • So, it's been a very long time since I'm watched your videos and commented on them, and so I thought that it was about time too. After a a year and a bit of enjoying playing that piano, I am hungering for more piano pieces to play.

It looks like I've found another one. I never noticed how pleasant this one sounded. Thanks again Arkton!

  • i've always loved this song, ever since i've heard it on FF8... but i can't for the life of me remember where it was played!! can anyone help me???

and by the way... marvellous playing! i have this song in my PSP, and that's really awesome, because i only put the stuff i really like in my PSP.

so, bravo!! no words can really describe how awesome you are

  • it was in Trabia Garden :D

  • zomg, YES!!! tat's it!! thx so much...

  • A few flashback scenes with Laguna also used the tune too if I can remember correctly.

  • It was played right at the start of the game, in Balamb Garden.

How the hell can you forget that, haha, its awesome.

  • i remember playing this game younger when i was laguna, having the hawts for ami. XP

  • Wow. Just wow. Great job.

  • those classes are worth him taking! look at that talent its beautiful!!

  • This made me so happy! Thank you so much for that feeling... Your playing is so emotional... Thank you

  • *Giggles.* These are my favorite games, and I've always wanted to play these songs. My brother and I learn by hearing and by sight, and these videos will definitely help me learn them! Thank you so much for posting all of these videos! They're all so beautiful, and I'm going to enjoy learning them. :)

  • one thing... how did you leanr to play anyway, ????

  • Wow man, it's almost like listening to the studio version.

    Great skill, great job. :)

  • amazing, thankis for your uploads ;)

  • time to play ffviii again!

  • bravo bravo love it

  • wow... the sound is so clean. I must work on this piece!

  • Why are you so good on playing piano i like all of your playing. I wish i was as talented as you .

  • Wonderful

  • that was great!!!

but i would like it even more if a litle slower

  • here we go. i play this piece too. i have to say u made it almost perfect. 9 out of 10.

  • waw!!

    that was great!!

  • man i did know there was so many people like me that, not only enjoyed the game, but the music. I don't think nobuo uematsu realizes how inspirational he truely is.

  • yeah he's fuckin boss.

  • Kyle Landry watch out :D 5/5

  • kylelandry is getting boring. He rarely does any DECEnt covers. ANd all his compositions are so boring. i think the bit of fame is getting to him.

  • It's probably just school. Music school is rly hard and time consuming + it's straining I heard... but he'll get a better. We just have to wait! lol

  • is it? man, now i'm scared to major in music

  • Haha! Don't be scared! It mostly depends on what you major on, but I do know that the composition major is one of the most stressful, and that's what he's majoring in. But, just like all college courses, if you work at it, it won't be so hard :))

  • lol that's the one i plan to go for XD

    thank you ^_^

  • O.o! Haha! Go for it! Good luck to you! It'll really pay off though once you finish! :))

  • oh um, if it wouldn't be too much of a hassle, could you ask your frind the basic requirements that he had to have to get in?

  • Well, first you have to apply. Also, recommended and some required, send in atleast 2 recommendation letters. Then, with every school the requirements are different, but you would have to go in for an audition. Some schools like Julliard make you send in a pre-screening before the audition to determine if you even should audition. (either just audio, or audio and visual - depends on what you go into). But since you want to go into comp., you would probably have 2 send in some scores and (cont.)

  • the length of them depends on the school. Also, the style of them would probably have to be different. You might aslo be asked to send in a statement describing your score and how you wrote it. Then, 4 the audition, you might hav an interview (be prepared 2 talk about your compositions), analyze other scores, and depending on where you go, you might have to give a performance on your main instrument if u hav 1. Hope this helps, sry I don't know more that can help u. Good luck! :)

  • I got this book for Christmas for a few years ago and this was the very first song I truly learned from it. XD It's such a beautiful piece, thanks for sharing. ^^

  • MAN i love this song, its not really sad and emotional, it just reminds me of happiness. its great, nice job arkton!!

  • Wow, I loved this song in the game, and you play it perfectly :)

  • el wn bkn la cago

  • again, great work!

    which el-piano is that?

  • sorry, found out... clp 280:P

  • Yup Arkton, I have you in your own section on my iPod too. ^__^ You're just too amazing. I hope I'll be able to play THIS GOOD in 8 years (only played 3). I always wanted to learn this song, but I got distracted and found Eternity, and Eyes on Me, others that I liked better than this one. But I think this is the best rendition I've heard of this song. Better than the professional. Heh, and better than Kyle's. :D

  • Naw. Kyle, Jake, Sebastian, Thomas, Joseph, Matt and Philip are all the pros! And there's a heck load more! :)

  • You are very good=)

  • hello arkton! I'm a real final fantasy's fan and I hope that one day, I will manage to play "Ami" like you! You're a very good pianist. You know play all my favourites final fantasy's songs! Great job!

  • you play so well. I would love to listen to some more fnal fantasy viii covers if possible because it's got one of the best soundtracks of the entire series.
