Hello there! Well, I have never gotten a request like this before, and unfortunately I really wouldn't know how to begin to do this. I am sorry that I couldn't be more helpful, but I do appreciate your love of this old music. :) Thank you for stopping by, and come back soon, Brian
This is quintessential American music. As I saw on another comment on "Where We'll Never Grow Old" it is seminal in American history. I highly recommend if you are in the area of Scott County, VA, go visit the Carter Family Fold.
It is beautiful! Be sure to check out my video of Miller Winkel with his recording of this same song. Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you have a great day, Brian
This seems like it would be a fun song to play. I have wanted to learn this song myself, but first I have to buy a guitar and learn how to play it. I am glad that you enjoyed my video. Thanks for watching/commenting and I hope that you have a great day, Brian
@hfpitman2 This IS my favorite song ever. However, Maybelle didnt sing it originally, Sara did, with A.P. and Maybelle doing harmonies. the original. Also, you should hear Helen Carter do it, she could have passed for Maybelle easily, it is that close to her mother.
Maybelle's guitar playing on this record was so strong, virile and virtuosic, no one could believe it was an 18 year-old girl! "That must be a man," people reasoned. Maybelle and Sara were the real female pioneers in country music.
Good morning. I agree, they definitely gave a lot to the foundation on which country music is built. I could listen to their original recordings for hours and never tire of hearing their wonderful harmony and like you say, fantastic guitar playing. I am glad you enjoyed this video, and thanks for watching/commenting. Be sure to check out the other videos on my channel. They are mostly from the 20's & 30's. Take care and have a good day, Brian
Maybelle was playing a Stella on this recording. When they were recording in Del Rio Texas, Cowboy Slim Rinehart asked Maybelle if he could used her Loar L5 and she let him.
He got in a drunk and lost it in a poker game. The family had to cross the border and retrieve the guitar. What if is a biggie on that one. It was up for sale for some time I don't know if anyone had the 1/4 million or more to part with.
Can you imagine owning that guitar?! That would be such a piece of history. Very cool, thank you for sharing, I didn't know about that story. Thanks again, have a great night, Brian
This is indeed the original version recorded for RCA in 1928 in Camden NJ. Most anthologies have later re-recordings where Sara's vocals are less stark, more pop-ish. And while this is often cited as Maybelle's definitive guitar track, she actually didn't acquire her signature 1928 Gibson L5, which she used exclusively the rest of her life, until February 1929 as a birthday gift from her husband.
Thank you for info, I didn't know a lot of that. I wonder why on early country albums record companies put pop sounding music on. I think it kind of defeats the purpose. I am glad at least that the original was preserved and that we still have it to listen to. Thank you again for the comment/info and have a wonderful day. (P.S. If you haven't already, check out my channel, I have posted some 300+ recordings from the 20s and 30's by a bunch of old time musicians. Enjoy!} , Brian
I really don't know if it has been remastered or not. I got it off a public domain mp3 website. But, I think you are right, I think it was recorded in 1927. Thank you for listening and I am glad you enjoyed it. Brian
