This is when Blanche is dating a local newscaster who also happens to be controlled by his domineering mother whom in turn despises Blanche. The scene shows everyone (including the boy friend and his mother) in the living room in what is a sad attempt to forge better relations between the mother and Blanche, as well as for the boy friend to finally stick up for himself.
