I don't get why Loki is made evil. I have read all the stories in their original form (as the writer wrote them, no other language, no translation) and he is not evil but simply a trouble maker. And most of the time he gets the gods out of trouble again. But I think what marvel is doing is fun. Though it would be epic if they'd do the story when Thor dresses up as a women and marries just to get behind enemy lines and get back his hammer then kicks everyones ass just as he's say ' I do'.

Myth Loki wasn't evil, he only caused mischief because it was fun for him. He was personified as evil because the other gods had huge egos and had to blame him for their faults and any bad things that happened, whether he was involved or not. The only truly evil thing he did was "help" Hoder kill Baldur.
Rather he's "evil" or not is open to interpretation I guess but he was not just the God of Mischief. He was know as the God of Lies and Deception and Loki the Destroyer so called because he was fated to destroy the Gods themselves and all life in the nine realms (which he did at Ragnarok) In the mythology Ragnarok was necessary so there could be a rebirth. Does that make him evil? Shrugs. Makes him tragic that's for sure.

Really people, Loki isn't misunderstood. God of MISCHIEF. He causes chaos to amuse himself. Yes, his story is pretty sad in the movie. But seriously, he snuck their realm's enemies into their weapons vault BEFORE he became insane with grief. He's not evil in the sense that he doesn't want to destroy the universe for no reason. But that doesn't make him a innocent misunderstood character. Personally, I like him better this way.
Thor wanted to kill all of the frost giants most of his life and everyone was kinda laughing it off then when Loki want to kill them hes evil. He really isnt tho. He was abandond when he was a baby and just really pissed off. I would be too if i found out i was left to die by the people all of Asgard wanted to kill. Im expecting him to kinda turn into an actual villian when the Avengers come out in May hehe so fucking exited and i hope Loki kicks ass
Why averyone tries to do the Magneto´s excuse on every villain now? "He´s not mean, he´s just misulderstood."
Hitler had his issues. Was he innocent also?
Face it: norse gods represent virtues. Thor was a hard worker. The hammer is a working tool. Loki was the deceiver. Do you preffer your son to be wich one of this? What stories would you tell? Who woulkd be the one you would follow?
@atlilill95 indeed! when you make a game based on something... please... just do your homework first ;) for starters: Loki isn't evil! he's a trixter made evil and called satan by the christian church...but in fact... he's awesome :D
@atlilill95 im american and i know a lot about this religion buddy.. its just theres some stupid people that like to make fun of ya religion those are the dumb asses!
@ChrisCaelanThomas It was a religion! Nordic folks believed these gods existed! They worshiped them. And you better research what mythology IS before you use it to prove your point.
@atlilill95 Wow, that clearly isn't what I meant retard. THIS SHOW has nothing to do with Norse Mythology, it is about characters based on the Nordic Gods depicted in Mythology, it's not meant to be fucking accurate.
Greed malice hate insanity selfishness... all these things are what makes evil characters evil.... if you would say loki isnt evil just because hes misunderstood then you could say that about pretty much all villains ;d
Loki is a trickster, which implies a kind of Nietzschean, beyond-good-and-evil status for the character. Cease this unnecessary arguing about morality--you're all right/wrong.
Sad my ass. When you do your research on loki you'll notice he's the trickster God. Screw that prick. You ever walked through a door and wond up with plastic wrap on your face. Well you can blame that ass whipe. He's the 1 who thought hey if I make people life miserable it would be funny, and this sh^t stuck. Now everyone thinks it's funny to screw people over lol Think about it the next time you wake up in the morning to a carrot inserted in your ass xD
@LaurelleStars He´s a norse god. Weakness is a flaw. Gods represent virtues. The evil represent what someone must not be. If he´s jealous like Cain or satan. hell... he´s evil.
@ONamoradoDaAngela actually loki wasn't evil in the mythology. he was simply a god of mischief, nothing more, nothing less. theres seems to be too much comparison to christian religion that exaggerates the characteristics of norse gods to fit western conventions to make him seem like he's the norse version of satan, when that's not true. in the comics he's depicted as manipulative, trying to destroy worlds, a very loose interpretation of loki
@lephong It's an every hero needs a villain thing too. Personally, I totally felt sorry for Loki and understood his view point. Plus I have a BIG crush on him/Tom Hiddleston. :P I was even happier when I found out he was the god of mischief...I can relate! lol P.S. that's coming from a Christian, we're not perfect after all ;)
And btw ppl: "A sequel set for a July 26, 2013 release date is in development." whoohoo!
@lephong It's any god or goddess of destruction or chaos that are compared to the Christian notion of Satan. Even poor Pan got the treatment and he doesn't bother anyone but the nymphs. Anyway, I agree. Loki, nor any god or goddess are 'evil'. They represent the chaotic force that is needed for any life to exist. Everyone has their good and bad days. That goes for the gods and goddesses.
@1DarkMasK1 but he wasn't evil. historians found that loki grew to be darker in the mythology as the result of alterations made quite some time after the original texts
@lephong But he killed Balder and gods punished him for that. He also betrayed the gods during Ragnarok. And even before, he putted other in danger to save himself.
@Ikarosus you can argue that the other gods have killed people too but we don't call them necessarily evil.though they may have fought for what they thought were honorable causes, does that stop the same consequences of killing a life?Sometimes, it wasn't even honorable reasons.Sometimes they were arrogant. loki killed one person, so he was punished greatly, whereas the others were honored as heroes.also historians say that the original text might be that he was captured, and wasnt a real traitor
@Ikarosus also the original texts never called loki evil, and that loki didn't actually intend to kill balder, just harm him a little. In Ragnorak, Loki was captured and the other gods saw him on the other side, believing he betrayed them.
@Ikarosus butthere's evidence that those stories were later additions,so i wouldn't call them them part of the true mythos.whereas with greek mythology,it's very hard to tell wut is the original story line n they have diff. versions, due to it starting as oral traditions, so the stories might vary drastically possibly at the same time due to many people telling the story and having recounted it differently.w/ loki's story,it's become "mainstream" that he's evil bc its similar to christian stories
Well , we could say that Marvel turned him a bit more evil to take him as the main vilain of the comic , otherwise he wasn't bad enough to be a real threat to Thor or Asgard . But what is quite annoying too is that in Mythology , he's depicted as a pretty good looking god too , we could even suppose that Loki was prettier than Thor . But apparently , here , evil characters have to be ugly ...
@lephong It is explained that Loki turns from simply being the god of mischief to the god of evil. It's explained in the Thor comics I believe. Also, everything you're saying is true. Also, I'm Norwegian and my name is Odin.
well u cant call loki evil , couse .... odin kill his true father ... by the way there is history in the myth when thor loose his hammer to another demon , and he want freya in exchange .. .thor accept...( true hero... ) freya dont wanted that so loki disgusi thor in to freya ... when thing get hot in the history loki save him twice ...
another history loki save freya from evil little elfs couse she wanted i dont rember if it was nibelung ring , loki just demand the ring couse they are gods
I like the myth where Loki turns in to a milkmaid, gets a husband, a house, and has children. For fun. Hes not evil, hes just taking the trolling too far.
I've always wanted to see something about what happened between Loki and Hela's mother. They had three kids and I think it would be kinda interesting to see who would want to sleep with Loki, who is not that appealing to begin with.
@Trentonater47 I think you missed my point. In a world where there is a woman-stuffed fridge for everyone character in canon, where is Loki's? Hela, the wolf thing, and the giant snake had to come from somewhere. We've only seen her once in the 80s.
@Wreckeningbassist666 in these comics thor is blonde because back in the day only 3 hair colors were easy to use. Yellow , red, and Black. It was the trend to give heroes blonde hair, their girlfriends red hair, and background characters black hair.
@Wreckeningbassist666 sif was given black hair because that is part of her character. Jane foster was a rare exception to the 3 colors as she had brown hair . Comics though are probably the best form of storytelling today. Neil Gaiman actually prefers writing them to literature.
@Wreckeningbassist666 Um, the comics are different from the real myths. It's best to just appreciate the two separately. In the comics, Loki is a frost giant who was adopted by Odin and raised as Thor's bother. He is still the father of Hela and is considered to be one of the major villains of the Marvel Universe.
@InvictusCH And it is supposed to be like that, what God character would talk like street gangster? I suppose you didn't like EA's Dante's Inferno. -.-
@TenmaxHarima Bull shit Loki is evil as hel in the myths, He killed Balder out of jealousy (In directly but still hes doing), and plans the death of all the other Gods at Ragnarok. All this "Misguided" crap is a load of shit.
@Ulfvaldr2012 Loki is not evil, he neither planed on killing the gods nor did he kill Balder out of jealousy. Thats why I hate Marvel shitworks, they twist the Mythology until only the names are the same.
@Cyricist001 Have you read the eddas? Loki was envious of Baldr. In the shape of an old woman, he learned from Frigg that she had missed one thing: the little harmless mistletoe bush. Loki found a mistletoe bush and turned a branch of it into a sharpened dart. Returning to the company of the gods, Loki found them throwing missiles against Baldr in sport. To one side was Höðr, Baldr's blind brother. Loki asked Höðr why he wasn't joining in the sport. Höðr said he had no dart,
@Cyricist001 nor could he see to shoot it. Loki gave Höðr the mistletoe dart, and guided Höðr's hand to throw the dart at Baldr. The dart flew through the hall and struck Baldr. It pierced him and passed right through him. Baldr fell over on his face. He was dead.
@Cyricist001 With the onset of Ragnarök, Loki is foretold to slip free from his bonds and to fight against the gods among the forces of the jötnar, at which time he will encounter the god Heimdallr and the two will slay each other.
@Ulfvaldr2012 It was foretold that Ragnarok will begin with 3 events, one of those was the death of Baldr, to prevent that the gods made all things swear outs to not harm him, except the mistletoe. So Loki made a weapon from the mistletoe and had it thrown at Baldr like the other gods were throwing Axes, spears, rocks etc. So it was not envy involved. Loki made things for fun, not out of hatred or spite. I don't know how much of the myths you know but It seams you have prejudices towards Loki.
@Cyricist001 I do have prejudices toward Loki, BECAUSE HES FUCKING EVIL, "Loki was jealousy of Baldr". And yeah it was fun for him to kill some one out of jealousy, I dont know about you, but that seems really evil to me, the others knew they where not going to kill Baldar, Loki knew it would.
@Ulfvaldr2012 You know we speak here of old Norse gods, for them killing people is like walking. Thor kicked a dwarf in a fire for no reason. Odin encourages wars between humans to get his soldiers for Ragnarok. Valhalla is full of blood thirsty killers, all the peaceful people go to Hell. How can you draw a moral line in a amoral world?Loki evil, bullshit and if he was then all Aesir also qualify. How often have Odin and Thor used murder to achieve there goals?punished Loki's children for egzist
@loyalties My loyalty's lay with the Æsir any that are against them I see as evil and an enemy. For example I see Christianity as evil, they do not. You may want to see the Æsir as evil, and Loki as not. Thats your delusion, What about Odin, and Thor's "murdering" was not necessary? Odin did not create war, or start any, just gave the honored dead a place to go. and as for Loki's evil children, they would eat and destroyed until some thing had to be done.
@Ulfvaldr2012 The world serpent was punished at birth, Fenris did no harm to anyone, Hell was send to Hellheim for no reason to. And what the Aesir did to Nari is also evil. You have to understand that there is no good or evil in this world, its only a illusion made by consensus on values. Odin encouraged war. Christianity is a infant religion, naive and ultimately idealistic. You are mistaking I don't see anybody as evil, for me all is morally gray. Kicking a dwarf in a fire out of anger isOK?
@Cyricist001 The world serpent would not stop growing, Fenrir was eating everything in sight. Good and evil are not illusions, they are individual virtues, semantics, The Edda's where written a long time ago, and translated by a Christian. I do realize this can go both ways, but it seems a lot has been Left out, I just don't see the wisest Being doing any thing with out reason. Evil, and Good, are relative,
@Ulfvaldr2012 If good and evil are relative than we should postpone judgment on our parts and have a open mind. If good and evil are individual virtues and not absolutes then we have no right to judge since every person has his/here own moral compass that dictates what is what. The Aesir had no idea how big he will get, they dumpt him in the seas as a infant. And Fenris did what every living thing does, it eats to survive. And you haven't commented on the fates of other Loki's children.
@Cyricist001 yeah they dumped him in the sea after he was big enough to encircle the world,..I.E world serpent. he was eating everything in sight, not just what he needed, you are ether being willfully ignorant, or have not read anything on this. Some people think Christianity is evil some don't, (for example), you don't see this as relative, really? Why do you think there is conflict? why are we having this conversation? Because good, and bad are relative.
@Cyricist001 On Loki's other children I did, you just didn't get it. I said "The Edda's where written a long time ago, and translated by a Christian. I do realize this can go both ways, but it seems a lot has been Left out, I just don't see the wisest Being doing any thing with out a reason". and its not about picking and choosing, its about believing not all is there
@Ulfvaldr2012 So you directly presume that Loki's other children have done something bad but is simply not written? Well the point you fail to see is that the Norse gods were neither the wisest or unfailing, and they newer thought they were. They make blunders like people and try to fix them.I cannot believe, I like the Norse (all) gods but like all other its only mythology to me. And the world serpent grew huge in the sea, what is logical only the sea can nourish a creature to become so big.
@Cyricist001 I am not saying their are flawless, but just why would Odin kick a dwarf into a fire for no reason? does not sound logical. Who do you see as wiser? Yahweh?. If you had read the lore you would know that they jammed the world serpents tail into his mouth BEFORE throwing him into the sea, to stop him from growing, ergo, no growth in the sea.
@Ulfvaldr2012 Thor kicked the dwarf out of fury for Baldr death - in effect so to say. There was a story how Loki skinned a dwarf and made a bag out of him, and Odin and Thor praised his quick thinking - seams its bad to be a dwarf :) If I thought Yahweh was wise I would be a drooling lunatic, I favor Loki for one reason only, he is fun. Wisdom starts in accepting that nobody knows everything, that's why Odin was a god of wisdom, unlike Yahweh who would need some reality checks.
@Cyricist001 "If good and evil are individual virtues and not absolutes then we have no right to judge since every person has his/here own moral compass that dictates what is what. " That is the biggest pile of stinking horse shit I have ever heard. Morality isn't a perspective to be interpreted. It is a code of conduct, a natural law. That's like saying a pedophile shouldn't be judged because he doesn't think there is anything wrong with raping babies.
@AcomsRazor1776 PS:If it was a natural law we wouldn't need laws to enforce them (and laws based on Roman laws no less, who killed for sport). Moral is a code the society agrees upon so to protect it self from its individual pieces. And more is it the pedophiles fault that he is attracted to children? or is it the fault of genetics? We can punish him for his act, but we should not judge. If a woman rapes a boy you will see that people tend to say that it was good for the victim.Natural law ha?
@TenmaxHarima He helped the gods many times, made one slip and was severely punished (meaning Odin killed some of his children and used there flesh to bind Loki), so you are right that he is not evil but I wouldn't say that he is a antagonist either.
@Cyricist001 well he was a focus point of their enemies in the Ragnarok so I think that qualifies him as antagonist. As for the slip up, that was just horrible! All he did was speak and he gets "that" for doing so. *shakes head*
loki isn't evil, he's just misunderstood. he's been in second place, all the time, and he's been reminded of it everyday. he's just a very unlucky person
Instead of taking pride in the accomplishments of Thor as if they were his own his own, he competes with Thor and hates him for his virtue. Loki cannot be around anyone or anything good without trying to punish it. His massive inferiority complex is pitiful but evil nonetheless. Ironically Thor NEVER looked down on Loki the way Loki looked down on himself.
@masterjon3 Depends which version of Loki we're talking about. In the Thor movie, he's a tragic character, someone who is not inherently bad but who has fallen from grace because of pain and envy. Under some understandings of evil, movie!Loki could certainly still be thought of as evil at that point, regardless of having to fall (Satan supposedly fell, after all). But in most of the old stories, he's far less angsty and far more amoral. He's evil in an outside-the-bounds-of-morality kind of way.
@masterjon3 Oh he is evil all right. The fact that he is unlucky and jelous of his brother is no excuse to half the things he does. Then again he set up a complicated plan to be reborn as a child in "Fear Itslef" so he could chage his own nature not to mention he sacrificed himself during "Siege".
In my opinion Loki is a great character. An example of good writing.
I saw the Thor movie today, and I couldn't call Loki evil. I would just say he is misguided. He tried to find favor with his father through the wrong direction. All he wanted was love. It's kinda sad if you think about it...

Fucking moron.

@ChrisCaelanThomas It was a religion! Nordic folks believed these gods existed! They worshiped them. And you better research what mythology IS before you use it to prove your point.
Gschmedade 5 months ago
@atlilill95 Wow, that clearly isn't what I meant retard. THIS SHOW has nothing to do with Norse Mythology, it is about characters based on the Nordic Gods depicted in Mythology, it's not meant to be fucking accurate.

@ONamoradoDaAngela Watch episodes 1-4, he was going to spare Thor's life at the end.
LaurelleStars 7 months ago
@LaurelleStars He´s a norse god. Weakness is a flaw. Gods represent virtues. The evil represent what someone must not be. If he´s jealous like Cain or satan. hell... he´s evil.
ONamoradoDaAngela 7 months ago
@ONamoradoDaAngela actually loki wasn't evil in the mythology. he was simply a god of mischief, nothing more, nothing less. theres seems to be too much comparison to christian religion that exaggerates the characteristics of norse gods to fit western conventions to make him seem like he's the norse version of satan, when that's not true. in the comics he's depicted as manipulative, trying to destroy worlds, a very loose interpretation of loki
lephong 7 months ago 72
@lephong It's an every hero needs a villain thing too. Personally, I totally felt sorry for Loki and understood his view point. Plus I have a BIG crush on him/Tom Hiddleston. :P I was even happier when I found out he was the god of mischief...I can relate! lol P.S. that's coming from a Christian, we're not perfect after all ;)
And btw ppl: "A sequel set for a July 26, 2013 release date is in development." whoohoo!
FangnclawXD 5 months ago
@lephong It's any god or goddess of destruction or chaos that are compared to the Christian notion of Satan. Even poor Pan got the treatment and he doesn't bother anyone but the nymphs. Anyway, I agree. Loki, nor any god or goddess are 'evil'. They represent the chaotic force that is needed for any life to exist. Everyone has their good and bad days. That goes for the gods and goddesses.

@lephong
In norse mythology Loki was basicly a dick.
Jar Jar Binks with superpowers loool.
1DarkMasK1 4 months ago
@1DarkMasK1 but he wasn't evil. historians found that loki grew to be darker in the mythology as the result of alterations made quite some time after the original texts
lephong 4 months ago
@lephong But he killed Balder and gods punished him for that. He also betrayed the gods during Ragnarok. And even before, he putted other in danger to save himself.
Ikarosus 4 months ago
@Ikarosus you can argue that the other gods have killed people too but we don't call them necessarily evil.though they may have fought for what they thought were honorable causes, does that stop the same consequences of killing a life?Sometimes, it wasn't even honorable reasons.Sometimes they were arrogant. loki killed one person, so he was punished greatly, whereas the others were honored as heroes.also historians say that the original text might be that he was captured, and wasnt a real traitor
lephong 4 months ago
@Ikarosus also the original texts never called loki evil, and that loki didn't actually intend to kill balder, just harm him a little. In Ragnorak, Loki was captured and the other gods saw him on the other side, believing he betrayed them.
lephong 4 months ago
@lephong Ive heard diffrent interpretation of that story. Isnt it like in greek mythology? Where a lot of myths and stories had diffrent versions?
Ikarosus 4 months ago
@Ikarosus butthere's evidence that those stories were later additions,so i wouldn't call them them part of the true mythos.whereas with greek mythology,it's very hard to tell wut is the original story line n they have diff. versions, due to it starting as oral traditions, so the stories might vary drastically possibly at the same time due to many people telling the story and having recounted it differently.w/ loki's story,it's become "mainstream" that he's evil bc its similar to christian stories

@lephong
Exactely !
But apparently , here , evil characters have to be ugly ...

i just had to come back and see this again, this is pretty cool, but Thor isn't blonde.
he has red hair and a red beard.
don't mind me, i just love Norse Mythology even when i was a kid, but i hate sharing the things i like, so i is gunna share my two cents:p
Wreckeningbassist666 8 months ago
@Wreckeningbassist666 in these comics thor is blonde because back in the day only 3 hair colors were easy to use. Yellow , red, and Black. It was the trend to give heroes blonde hair, their girlfriends red hair, and background characters black hair.
Trentonater47 8 months ago
@Trentonater47so they portrayed Sif as the red head?
nevermind, comics sound like they suck.
i would say portraying heroes in songs would be cooler.
but that's just me.
Wreckeningbassist666 8 months ago
@Wreckeningbassist666 sif was given black hair because that is part of her character. Jane foster was a rare exception to the 3 colors as she had brown hair . Comics though are probably the best form of storytelling today. Neil Gaiman actually prefers writing them to literature.
Trentonater47 8 months ago
wasn't it Odin and Loki the ones who were spose to be blood brothers by intentionally cutting their hands and mixing their blood?
Wreckeningbassist666 8 months ago
@Wreckeningbassist666 Um, the comics are different from the real myths. It's best to just appreciate the two separately. In the comics, Loki is a frost giant who was adopted by Odin and raised as Thor's bother. He is still the father of Hela and is considered to be one of the major villains of the Marvel Universe.

@TenmaxHarima Bull shit Loki is evil as hel in the myths, He killed Balder out of jealousy (In directly but still hes doing), and plans the death of all the other Gods at Ragnarok. All this "Misguided" crap is a load of shit.
Ulfvaldr2012 9 months ago
@Ulfvaldr2012 Loki is not evil, he neither planed on killing the gods nor did he kill Balder out of jealousy. Thats why I hate Marvel shitworks, they twist the Mythology until only the names are the same.
Cyricist001 9 months ago
@Cyricist001 Have you read the eddas? Loki was envious of Baldr. In the shape of an old woman, he learned from Frigg that she had missed one thing: the little harmless mistletoe bush. Loki found a mistletoe bush and turned a branch of it into a sharpened dart. Returning to the company of the gods, Loki found them throwing missiles against Baldr in sport. To one side was Höðr, Baldr's blind brother. Loki asked Höðr why he wasn't joining in the sport. Höðr said he had no dart,
Ulfvaldr2012 9 months ago
@Cyricist001 nor could he see to shoot it. Loki gave Höðr the mistletoe dart, and guided Höðr's hand to throw the dart at Baldr. The dart flew through the hall and struck Baldr. It pierced him and passed right through him. Baldr fell over on his face. He was dead.
Ulfvaldr2012 9 months ago
@Cyricist001 With the onset of Ragnarök, Loki is foretold to slip free from his bonds and to fight against the gods among the forces of the jötnar, at which time he will encounter the god Heimdallr and the two will slay each other.
Ulfvaldr2012 9 months ago
@Ulfvaldr2012 It was foretold that Ragnarok will begin with 3 events, one of those was the death of Baldr, to prevent that the gods made all things swear outs to not harm him, except the mistletoe. So Loki made a weapon from the mistletoe and had it thrown at Baldr like the other gods were throwing Axes, spears, rocks etc. So it was not envy involved. Loki made things for fun, not out of hatred or spite. I don't know how much of the myths you know but It seams you have prejudices towards Loki.
Cyricist001 9 months ago
@Cyricist001 I do have prejudices toward Loki, BECAUSE HES FUCKING EVIL, "Loki was jealousy of Baldr". And yeah it was fun for him to kill some one out of jealousy, I dont know about you, but that seems really evil to me, the others knew they where not going to kill Baldar, Loki knew it would.
Ulfvaldr2012 9 months ago
@Ulfvaldr2012 You know we speak here of old Norse gods, for them killing people is like walking. Thor kicked a dwarf in a fire for no reason. Odin encourages wars between humans to get his soldiers for Ragnarok. Valhalla is full of blood thirsty killers, all the peaceful people go to Hell. How can you draw a moral line in a amoral world?Loki evil, bullshit and if he was then all Aesir also qualify. How often have Odin and Thor used murder to achieve there goals?punished Loki's children for egzist
Cyricist001 9 months ago
@loyalties My loyalty's lay with the Æsir any that are against them I see as evil and an enemy. For example I see Christianity as evil, they do not. You may want to see the Æsir as evil, and Loki as not. Thats your delusion, What about Odin, and Thor's "murdering" was not necessary? Odin did not create war, or start any, just gave the honored dead a place to go. and as for Loki's evil children, they would eat and destroyed until some thing had to be done.
Ulfvaldr2012 9 months ago
@Ulfvaldr2012 The world serpent was punished at birth, Fenris did no harm to anyone, Hell was send to Hellheim for no reason to. And what the Aesir did to Nari is also evil. You have to understand that there is no good or evil in this world, its only a illusion made by consensus on values. Odin encouraged war. Christianity is a infant religion, naive and ultimately idealistic. You are mistaking I don't see anybody as evil, for me all is morally gray. Kicking a dwarf in a fire out of anger isOK?
Cyricist001 9 months ago
@Cyricist001 The world serpent would not stop growing, Fenrir was eating everything in sight. Good and evil are not illusions, they are individual virtues, semantics, The Edda's where written a long time ago, and translated by a Christian. I do realize this can go both ways, but it seems a lot has been Left out, I just don't see the wisest Being doing any thing with out reason. Evil, and Good, are relative,
Ulfvaldr2012 9 months ago
@Ulfvaldr2012 If good and evil are relative than we should postpone judgment on our parts and have a open mind. If good and evil are individual virtues and not absolutes then we have no right to judge since every person has his/here own moral compass that dictates what is what. The Aesir had no idea how big he will get, they dumpt him in the seas as a infant. And Fenris did what every living thing does, it eats to survive. And you haven't commented on the fates of other Loki's children.
Cyricist001 9 months ago
@Cyricist001 yeah they dumped him in the sea after he was big enough to encircle the world,..I.E world serpent. he was eating everything in sight, not just what he needed, you are ether being willfully ignorant, or have not read anything on this. Some people think Christianity is evil some don't, (for example), you don't see this as relative, really? Why do you think there is conflict? why are we having this conversation? Because good, and bad are relative.
Ulfvaldr2012 9 months ago
@Cyricist001 On Loki's other children I did, you just didn't get it. I said "The Edda's where written a long time ago, and translated by a Christian. I do realize this can go both ways, but it seems a lot has been Left out, I just don't see the wisest Being doing any thing with out a reason". and its not about picking and choosing, its about believing not all is there
Ulfvaldr2012 9 months ago
@Ulfvaldr2012 So you directly presume that Loki's other children have done something bad but is simply not written? Well the point you fail to see is that the Norse gods were neither the wisest or unfailing, and they newer thought they were. They make blunders like people and try to fix them.I cannot believe, I like the Norse (all) gods but like all other its only mythology to me. And the world serpent grew huge in the sea, what is logical only the sea can nourish a creature to become so big.
Cyricist001 9 months ago
@Cyricist001 I am not saying their are flawless, but just why would Odin kick a dwarf into a fire for no reason? does not sound logical. Who do you see as wiser? Yahweh?. If you had read the lore you would know that they jammed the world serpents tail into his mouth BEFORE throwing him into the sea, to stop him from growing, ergo, no growth in the sea.
Ulfvaldr2012 9 months ago
@Ulfvaldr2012 Thor kicked the dwarf out of fury for Baldr death - in effect so to say. There was a story how Loki skinned a dwarf and made a bag out of him, and Odin and Thor praised his quick thinking - seams its bad to be a dwarf :) If I thought Yahweh was wise I would be a drooling lunatic, I favor Loki for one reason only, he is fun. Wisdom starts in accepting that nobody knows everything, that's why Odin was a god of wisdom, unlike Yahweh who would need some reality checks.
Cyricist001 9 months ago
@Cyricist001 Only thing I will say to this is, Loki is only interested in making himself laugh, at the expense of others = EVIL!!!. I digress
Ulfvaldr2012 9 months ago
@Ulfvaldr2012 Evil is only a mater of perspective. What is your evil that is a other mans good.
Cyricist001 9 months ago 4
@Cyricist001 "If good and evil are individual virtues and not absolutes then we have no right to judge since every person has his/here own moral compass that dictates what is what. " That is the biggest pile of stinking horse shit I have ever heard. Morality isn't a perspective to be interpreted. It is a code of conduct, a natural law. That's like saying a pedophile shouldn't be judged because he doesn't think there is anything wrong with raping babies.
AcomsRazor1776 9 months ago
@AcomsRazor1776 Have you seen the "If" part of the argument.?
Cyricist001 9 months ago
@AcomsRazor1776 PS:If it was a natural law we wouldn't need laws to enforce them (and laws based on Roman laws no less, who killed for sport). Moral is a code the society agrees upon so to protect it self from its individual pieces. And more is it the pedophiles fault that he is attracted to children? or is it the fault of genetics? We can punish him for his act, but we should not judge. If a woman rapes a boy you will see that people tend to say that it was good for the victim.Natural law ha?
Cyricist001 9 months ago
@TenmaxHarima He helped the gods many times, made one slip and was severely punished (meaning Odin killed some of his children and used there flesh to bind Loki), so you are right that he is not evil but I wouldn't say that he is a antagonist either.
Cyricist001 9 months ago
@Cyricist001 well he was a focus point of their enemies in the Ragnarok so I think that qualifies him as antagonist. As for the slip up, that was just horrible! All he did was speak and he gets "that" for doing so. *shakes head*

Nah dude is EVIL.
Just like Caine was evil when he killed Able.
Loki's sin is the greatest of all. ENVY

SuperChipmunk666 7 months ago
@masterjon3 Depends which version of Loki we're talking about. In the Thor movie, he's a tragic character, someone who is not inherently bad but who has fallen from grace because of pain and envy. Under some understandings of evil, movie!Loki could certainly still be thought of as evil at that point, regardless of having to fall (Satan supposedly fell, after all). But in most of the old stories, he's far less angsty and far more amoral. He's evil in an outside-the-bounds-of-morality kind of way.
stephantom 7 months ago 3
@masterjon3 Oh he is evil all right. The fact that he is unlucky and jelous of his brother is no excuse to half the things he does. Then again he set up a complicated plan to be reborn as a child in "Fear Itslef" so he could chage his own nature not to mention he sacrificed himself during "Siege".
In my opinion Loki is a great character. An example of good writing.
Link544 6 months ago
