I have a cavapoo and she does the very same thing. It drives everyone crazy! If anyone gets too close, she licks them too. I would like to know how to stop it. Sometimes I tell her to stop and she will for a few sec. Nothing has worked. It looks more like it's a way of interacting or submissiveness. She doesn't really lick objects much, just the air.

My two dogs do this, but only after rough play with each other. They only lick the air for a few seconds.

But my chihuahua licks everything constantly Vet said it was a calming mechanism, very much like sucking on a pacifier. Not a problem unless they have sores due to the licking.

OMG my 3 yr. old Yorkie does the EXACT same thing! it drives me NUTS!! the funny thing is that she only does it in certain rooms. i wouldn't mind it so much if she wasn't so noisy about it.

my GSD does that exact same thing...I used to take him to the ER in fear that he was bloating...he obviously wasn't and 3 years later is still licking air! So Happy to see he is not the only one =^)

I can see how that would get annoying. :) Shelby does this paw licking thing in the evening before bed that drives us nuts. It's like having a very loud and very large cat.
