When you sweep, you are creating a track that the rocks run between. But by not completing your stroke, the rock strikes the frost build up and either A) picks AND slows down or B) just slows down. In this case, the rock was heavy, and Ben wanted to rock to slow down... Lucky for him, it didn't pick that much to wreck the guard but rather just enough and slow it down.

Hebert is one of the best sweepers in the world, so he obviously knew what he was doing. It doesn't matter if the shot wasn't perfect, it was still cheating. Hebert lifts in front of the rock because he knows Martin is going deep. Watch Hebert normally sweep he always lifts when he is at his side of the rock out of the slide path. You can see it grabs a little too right after he lifts his broom.

Glenn Howard curls a great game and rich had every right to flip out straight up with a hair broom is un called for. Ben is at a level that he should know and make mistakes like that I find that whole team to be sneaky.quite cocky as well. One day Kevin will leave those boys and retire then what will they do? For someone entirely new to curling, what is the problem with this situation? I am not sure what is going on that caused an issue? Any help is appreciated.

@GGW81 Basically when using a hair broom it traps debris in the hairs and by lifting the broom straight up it may drop some of that debris in front of the rock and literally any debris can totally change the path. in this case the rock started to curl more and got extra buried.

@KawaiiHatori actually even something as small as an eyelash can ruin a rocks path. even if you stand in one spot too long, a footprint will be left melted into the ice and that can alter the path also. It is the ultimate penalty in any sport as it is impossible to prevent in the second case.
