Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?
Hmm, Kim Jong Il died shortly after Christopher. I'm sure he would have pounced on the news...
Perhaps if the pope and a few others follow the dear leader in quick succession we might have to consider that Hitch could have had some influence in a here-after.
If anyone could convince an all-mighty of a view he didn't already hold... I think i'd know who i'd send as my envoy.
@BrickOfGold then you don't know his material very well. He was simply making a point that the world is far from what a loving God would create.. Read his books instead of making a strawman argument like that.
Great job.. was atheist all my life but was shy about it and this guy made me proud to be it. R.I.P. Hitch your the first great philosopher of the future.
A charming tribute - Thank you cristopher Hitchens, a one-off, a teacher and a fine example of how life should be lived. May your words live on and indeed you live on in your words
A nice tribute to a brilliant man, like he says of Shakespeare, any time you want to see him you can through his works and Christopher has left plenty for the future. Thanks for the video ukatheist.
I'm not an atheist and I didn't always agree with Christopher Hitchens. Nevertheless, he was braver and more honest than any religious person I've met. His intellect was bracing and sharp, as was his sense of humor. He did not believe in a spirtiual transcendence beyond death -- I do, however, and I believe there he will find mercy and an even greater freedom.
@xSpencerWxRFCx Rest in peace, the thought behind it is important, in this case, it is in the hopes and dreams of him, and others that the world might soon be without the chains of religious dogma.
@xSpencerWxRFCx what meaning does it have from a christian, since it is your belief the dead are happy in heaven? isn't 'rip' redundant and unnecessary? dipshit
@bs338408 Im an atheist lol. I just don't think it makes sence since the majority of atheists believe that when we die, thats it. So where do we rest in peace :L?
We love you brother. Thank you so much for being who you were. You are among the world's greatest orators. Every time you spoke, you eloquently delivered captivating brilliance which impacted everyone fortunate enough to hear. Your inspirational words will continue to positively effect people's lives for ages to come. Live on through us.
"The gods we've made are the gods you'd expect to be made from a species about a half a chromosome away from being a chimpanzee." ---my new favourite quote. RIP
He can, as all others that have died, "rest in peace". What more profound "rest" can there be then nonexistence? He no longer is concerned with anything anymore, neither joy nor sorrow, love nor hate. Hitchens is truly "resting in peace", a dreamless sleep. His words, and the people he has touched with them stand in his place, hopefully continuing the fight. :)
He is a national treasure to us Brits who are keen minded enough to take an interest in him. A phenomenal intellect and a rapier like wit, a more intimidating debater i have never seen. More impotantly though, he was always coming from a place of truth, reason and logic. Our world is that much dimmer now he has gone. R.I.P. Hitch.
So sorry to hear of Christopher Hitchens death. He was the most intelligent debater I ever listened to and always pushed for truth, there will never be another Christopher Hitchens. My condolences to his family.
What a great loss. If only .... we could of had him for another twenty years. Sixty two is a great age to be looked up to but too young to be viewed in the ground.
Hitchens has died, but his intellectual legacy lives on, and to me that is the only form of "immortality" that we can be certain of, and that is the only form of immorality that really should matter to us. Hitchens gave voice to those who of us who had no voice. His scathing critique of religion and other irrationalities gave so many of us, who were previously silent, the courage to speak up. He not only imparted great knowledge to the world, but strength to those who valued reason.
Religion does not create hatred, it's the people who are haters! Religion brings people together, peace, love, respect, charity if it's properly understood. The 6 main Religions are similar, but are misconstrued by the idiotic people who are 'followers' of that Religion. Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, Judaism are the main Religions and they, if studied properly can unite.
1 person is probably William Lane Craig in disguise or one of the many other twats the Hitch publicly humiliated during his life. Good bye, Hitch. You'll be missed.
great tribute. he did alot for all atheists, i think america and maybe even the more secular middle eastern countries will feel the benefit the most though. the 4 horseman have created an unstoppable force. northen europe just needed a nudge to start paying attention again, i think. RIP to a guy who won't be forgotten soon.
gutted today...farewell Christopher, listening to this man has been a life changing experience for me. words are inadequate to describe the loss of this great man. i feel atheists and free thinking people have lost their greatest general at the outset of war.
I respected Hitchens views for the most part but he lost most of his credibility when he started supporting Bush and therefore mass murder in Iraq
