  • I respected Hitchens views for the most part but he lost most of his credibility when he started supporting Bush and therefore mass murder in Iraq

  • Woody Allen - If God exists, I hope he has a good excuse

Richard Francis Burton- (1821-1890) The more I study religions the more I am convinced that man never worshipped anything but himself.

  • So long, Hitch. You gave us a very entertaining and thought-provoking few years.

  • Hmm, Kim Jong Il died shortly after Christopher. I'm sure he would have pounced on the news...

Perhaps if the pope and a few others follow the dear leader in quick succession we might have to consider that Hitch could have had some influence in a here-after.

If anyone could convince an all-mighty of a view he didn't already hold... I think i'd know who i'd send as my envoy.

  • @BrickOfGold then you don't know his material very well. He was simply making a point that the world is far from what a loving God would create.. Read his books instead of making a strawman argument like that.

  • He was the same age as my father. My father is the bad kind of bastard. I wish I could switch them. Wouldn't miss my father.

  • Great job.. was atheist all my life but was shy about it and this guy made me proud to be it. R.I.P. Hitch your the first great philosopher of the future.

  • SO LONG, YOU AMAZING SONAVA BITCH!

  • A charming tribute - Thank you cristopher Hitchens, a one-off, a teacher and a fine example of how life should be lived. May your words live on and indeed you live on in your words

    Farewell

  • A nice tribute to a brilliant man, like he says of Shakespeare, any time you want to see him you can through his works and Christopher has left plenty for the future. Thanks for the video ukatheist.

  • So great... So sad he's gone... Always in our minds!!! Thanks hitch.

  • Anyone have a link to the entire U Waterloo debate? (with the video link)

  • @Pulpgimp brilliant!

  • hale to chris, and your words will never be forgotten

  • well, forever is an overstatement. The guy was a great thinker that's fosho' :)

  • Like he said about Shakespeare, he's dead, but his words remain with us.

  • I'm not an atheist and I didn't always agree with Christopher Hitchens. Nevertheless, he was braver and more honest than any religious person I've met. His intellect was bracing and sharp, as was his sense of humor. He did not believe in a spirtiual transcendence beyond death -- I do, however, and I believe there he will find mercy and an even greater freedom.

  • GBNF

  • What meaning does 'RIP' have, when it comes from atheists :L?

  • @xSpencerWxRFCx ..............

  • @xSpencerWxRFCx Rest in peace, the thought behind it is important, in this case, it is in the hopes and dreams of him, and others that the world might soon be without the chains of religious dogma.

  • @xSpencerWxRFCx what meaning does it have from a christian, since it is your belief the dead are happy in heaven? isn't 'rip' redundant and unnecessary? dipshit

  • @bs338408 Im an atheist lol. I just don't think it makes sence since the majority of atheists believe that when we die, thats it. So where do we rest in peace :L?

  • He changed us all, even the religious folk.

  • Mr. Hitchens, dear, darling, precious Mr. Hitchens, what a jewel you are. Thank You.

  • Thank you so much for the video. Rest in peace comrade Hitchens.

  • RIP.

  • RIP Christopher Hitchens, I didn't know too much about him but I can tell he made a difference in the world.

  • The person may have died but his words will keep on living in our minds.

  • He will live on in hearts of all who followed him or who were inspired by him and his works.

  • "The gods we've made are the gods you'd expect to be made from a species about a half a chromosome away from being a chimpanzee." ---my new favourite quote. RIP

  • stronger than ever...larger than life...

  • I hope that he went with a bottle of scotch by his side.

  • All of us inspired by the man & saddened by the news combine to make a fitting tribute,

    for we are many.

  • Who better to sing the philosophy drinking song!?! Good vid Mr. UKA.

  • Great compilation, well done UK Atheist. I'll miss Hitchens pwning theists left and right.

  • those who won't miss him have missed out RIP Hitchens

  • he was a great, great man and he will be missed...thank you christopher hitchens!!

  • hitch a one off,a fantastic writer and speaker sadly missed! this man changed my life and how i think about everything, thank you hitch.

  • He can, as all others that have died, "rest in peace". What more profound "rest" can there be then nonexistence? He no longer is concerned with anything anymore, neither joy nor sorrow, love nor hate. Hitchens is truly "resting in peace", a dreamless sleep. His words, and the people he has touched with them stand in his place, hopefully continuing the fight. :)

  • Miss him already

  • You opened my eyes, and my ears. Somehow rest in peace seems wrong. The fact that you lived i am very thankful.......

  • He is a national treasure to us Brits who are keen minded enough to take an interest in him. A phenomenal intellect and a rapier like wit, a more intimidating debater i have never seen. More impotantly though, he was always coming from a place of truth, reason and logic. Our world is that much dimmer now he has gone. R.I.P. Hitch.

  • Probilly shouldnt have smoked that much.

  • So sorry to hear of Christopher Hitchens death. He was the most intelligent debater I ever listened to and always pushed for truth, there will never be another Christopher Hitchens. My condolences to his family.

  • RIP Hitchens.

  • What a great loss. If only .... we could of had him for another twenty years. Sixty two is a great age to be looked up to but too young to be viewed in the ground.

  • What can I break around here that's not too expensive or heavy?

  • the idea that you'll found out everything after you die, is belittling to the pursuit of human knowledge.

  • rip hitch

  • Hitchens has died, but his intellectual legacy lives on, and to me that is the only form of "immortality" that we can be certain of, and that is the only form of immorality that really should matter to us. Hitchens gave voice to those who of us who had no voice. His scathing critique of religion and other irrationalities gave so many of us, who were previously silent, the courage to speak up. He not only imparted great knowledge to the world, but strength to those who valued reason.

  • Thank you for this.

  • And he did not fear death.

  • Great tribute ukatheist. Long live Hitch!

  • Memory of him will live forever!

  • The Earth has lost one of it's brightest jewels

  • feel like crying

  • I `ve discovered him just a few months ago and now i it feels like somebody who was always present in my life is gone...

R.I.P. Hitch ,your message will endure .

  • It's a sad day for Planet Earth.

  • Well, I'm happy he didn't choose a music career. :D

    RIP You wonderful man

  • 1 person is probably William Lane Craig in disguise or one of the many other twats the Hitch publicly humiliated during his life. Good bye, Hitch. You'll be missed.

  • 9.10 "well fuck that" brilliant

  • great tribute. he did alot for all atheists, i think america and maybe even the more secular middle eastern countries will feel the benefit the most though. the 4 horseman have created an unstoppable force. northen europe just needed a nudge to start paying attention again, i think. RIP to a guy who won't be forgotten soon.

  • Oh, I'm so sorry to hear this.

Condolences to his family and friends, and to the next generation of political activists who will grow up without him. :(

  • A great man.

I am enjoying the Hitchslap series on youtube.

  • Truly lost a great man.

  • gutted today...farewell Christopher, listening to this man has been a life changing experience for me. words are inadequate to describe the loss of this great man. i feel atheists and free thinking people have lost their greatest general at the outset of war.

  • Thanks for this tribute.

  • a piece of news that will take some time to sink in. We will miss him.

  • He won't "RIP" because dead people don't 'rest' anyway.

  • Great man. His political views notwithstanding. RIP.

  • I was sitting here feeling sorry for myself being off work with the flu.

You do the Spinal Tap joke.

Watching an obituary on the BBC at the moment.

    Sad news.

  • I just heard it right now. My heart is truly broken. RIP

  • @aqouby same here.

  • RIP-Christopher Hitchens, may your words live on
