Haha, loved the fact that y'all caught up with each other after goin different directions! And i think the person in that SUV had no idea what to do cause there was firetrucks on one side and a police car on the other. But they sorta moved after the first went by!
@JrSAR101 Most departments have what's called a light force, which is sending both ladder and pumper to a scene, that way, allowing for full amounts of equipment to arrive on scene, whereas a quint or something similar sacrifies something in order to have all these functions. A light force doesn't, it jjust sends two vehicles instead. LAFD does this among many others
@newfoundking i see. ya we're lucky to get five on our rescue truck for MVAs. Well that's all we do is provide Vehicle extracation through our Search and Rescue society, we respone to the MVAs outside of the FDs call area.
@JrSAR101 Yeah, that's the main reason why not all fire departments use this, is mainly due to man power. Some volunteer companies are lucky to get one driver, let alone two, so usually you'll see volunteer companies have quints, and combination vehicles, since they don't have the luxuary of getting several drivers for each unit. It's a shame sometimes, but I guess each department makes the best they can with what they have, and as long as they get the job done, that's what matters!
@newfoundking Yup as long as the job gets done. ya we only got like 10 ppl on pager for Highway Rescue, but there's a few ppl that could be given pagers cause they're around a lot. so maybe 13ppl by the new year.
Awesome video again dave! I thought it was a little crazy driving opposing traffic in heavy fog, but once I saw traffic backed up at the intersection, that was about the only way to get thru! Haha....what year is that Qauntum?
Does the thing that goes wooooooooooooooowaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa (not the wewawewawewawewa) does that siren get operated by a things that you turn and it charges it and when you stop turning then it slowly decreases in pitch?
Just something the pump driver did. It's difficult for the ladder to make the turn the way the pump went, so that is why we go the other way, normally the pump would too. Guess he didn't feel like it though
nice responce... foggy as hell... to our MVA's we bring 1 engine and 2 rescues.. the engine only for traffic wise. makes a good block just park the truck n leave it.. plus that station has about 7 guys gear in there so every one just jumps in it and thats less cars to get in the way. STAY SAFE.
Read previous comments for better, My truck wont make the turn if there is traffic, so we go another way, why the pump wants to go that way is beyond me.
The roof that you are seeing belongs to the supervisor for the local ambulance service. Excluding patient care they have no command authority over the scene. You can't see it because of the angle and fog, but directly across the intersection is one of our old firehouses that was being used as a training center. So there was a Lt who was teaching a candidate class on scene. Why he didn't who knows. You know how those folks in training are. lol
Thanks for the clarification. It just seemed odd to me that Engine called command with an officer on-scene. Now knowing that the officer was an off-duty LT makes more sense.
It's a standard response at a lot of larger departments. One reason at mine is that the ladder trucks, along with the 2 rescue trucks we run, are the ones who do any extracation needed.
Many departments wisely place extrication equipment on ladders/aerials/trucks. This is done for a couple of reasons: 1) most aerials have plenty of cabinet space for the extrication equipment and 2) it eliminates the need to purchase a 2nd vehicle for vehicle rescue purposes. It comes down to budget and common sense.
Its typically standard for most possible entrapment calls to have a Quint as we call them to respond to them. usually the quint will carry most of the extrication equipment

Is it policy that if there are two apparatus that one must go a different direction? Or is that just something random the driver did?

The engine establishes command?! I see the roof of a duty officer's vehicle. Why didnt he/she call the command?

Why would you need a ladder truck at a motor vehicle crash?

also on a aerial your going to be safer because it can block more than a rescue or an engine

why did u guys go the other way n not follow the engine?

The ladder won't make the turn onto centeral if there is traffic. So we run that way to be on the safe side.
