  • KOOOOOOONNNNNNN!!!!!

    Had to.

Also, volume needs upping[that's a word?].

Why have I not seen this yet, sounds like anime-version Memento.

  • Well Grumpy I can only strive to be as cool as you when im your age.

  • yes that is an admiral goal. to be as cool as him when we get to be his age. I sure hope so .

  • Get review! I had just happen to pick this movie and Paprika up at the video store. Paprika was really good so I'm exsited to watch this one.

  • lol we need some quality check on the picture you chose for Rumi.

  • Great review, I was thinking about seeing this.

  • Very Good review, Perfect Blue is a fantastic film and one of my favourites right next to Satoshi's other work Paprika.

  • Good review. I always wanted to watch this anime for a really long time.

  • great review. i still have this on vhs.

  • Great review! So far this is my least favorite title from Kon. I liked Paprika and Paranoia Agent more then this. But least favorite from Kon, still means miles ahead of everyone else ;). It's an amazing film, one that's great to watch over and over again. I Like how dark, twsisted, and gritty it can be, yet also happy at times. I also like thw twisting reality as your never sure what's really happening and what's not.

  • The dub was great for it's time, thought Bridget Hoffman nailed Mima. And I was SOOO used to her as Lain, it was very nice to hear her in an older women, and very different role. The other actors were all great, although I have a little problem with Wendee Lee as Rica, not sure why.

  • Perfect Blue is not from USMC but Manga Ent. USMC (central park media) does have a lot of other good titles from Madhosue though, so it's easy to get confused.

  • titles from Madhouse*** Damn can't type for my life

  • Yeah, sadly I think I conflate USMC and Manga Ent because they both have manga in their name :(

Even sadder, CPM & USMC are bankrupt and no more, and their old licenses are in the wind.

  • Ah yes it's very sad what happened to CPM/USMC. They were (are?) my favorite R1. John O'Donnell is quite a man, you just gata respect him and what he did for the industry. CPM had (has?) a lot of my favorite titles, and it's sad to see the licenses for all of them up in the air, well save the few ADV saved. So many good shows OOP...

  • You should check out casshern sins, though its quite depressing. They have it for streaming on funis website

  • I'll try that. Looks like they only have 2 eps up right now, though, so I won't get far. :(

  • This review's title confused me--I figured you were going to review 'Me and the Devil Blues'.

Not much to say here, though the audio really is quite low. I'm wearing big, noise-cancelling headphones, the volumes up to 100, and I still have a hard time hearing your voice.

    Thanks for the review, Gramps!

  • I was hoping for that as well; I love Me and the Devil Blues.

Perfect Blue is brilliant though so I'm not complaining; it's the epitome of psychological thrillers.

It is very rewarding to watch it multiple times. I agree with everything you said about it, Jii-san.

  • You thought I was going to review music?

Sorry about the audio levels. Long standing problem. I'll try to scream more loudly! :) (I have found a setting on ffmpeg to up the volume when I convert the vids, but this was an older recording and didn't get processed.)

  • Er, technically. Me and the Devil Blues is a story of a black man who sells his soul to the devil so that he may play the Blues to support his wife. It's based on the story of the old blues singer, Robert Johnson. I've heard say it's pretty good.

  • This anime is just amazing. It did the same thing Nightmare On Elm Street did with trying to fool us with what is real and what is a dream (or scene of a movie in this case) It had a great twist ending and good character development. While she was a little dense to the internet website and didn't seem to care much. An amazing anime overall. I know you reviewed his other film Paprika but what did you think of Paranoia Agent?

  • I expect to get to P.A. in January. :) I have a few other Kon & others to finish up first.

  • hmm you have all the way into January planned out already? How far ahead do you plan these reviews? Also how often do you film them? Daily hiker perhaps or maybe just film a couple per hike? Cause it seems you have new ones out all the time.

  • @GrumpyJiisan after seeing Paprika months ago, I definitely recommend you view P.A. it's Kons last best film. Paprika was a solid film, but very disappointing ending.

Makes P.A.'s quirky-darkness look as original as it truly is.

  • I don't really think she was dense withthe internet. This was made in 1997, keep that in mind. It was a very different world back then :P .

  • No I mean she was reading a blog about the exact things she was doing every day and didn't think anything of it. I understand she doesn't know how to use it really but she should know something is messed up with that.

  • Yeah...but at first it just seemed harmless, and like anyone could know those things. By the time she relized how serious this is it was far too late. Throw into the mix she's losing touch with reality and it does make a lot of sense. But yeah I get what youur saying. SHe probally should have known SOMETHING was up, I mean that's just weird.

  • :D

    Another mind F#@K anime?

I think I might like this anime...

    Great review
