  • WTF !!

  • looks like quentin tarantino

  • what the fuck are those dance moves? lmao. this is why white people should not dance (I'm white)

  • I don't know who rontenn's "us" are but if he speaks for 99.9% of them he's obviously talking about a small fan base. I can't fathom someone speaking for the personal beliefs of millions of Elvis fans or Tom Jones fans or Beatles fans. PJ Proby's fans must be so few in number rontenn can easily stay on top of their individual opinions on any topic that comes up on youtube. How cozy.

  • @rontenn It would have been hard to check with Lennon in 2005. The story was attributed to PJ Proby and not as something the author witnessed or vouched for. There's one lying b*****d and a few people still callow enough to believe him.

  • @grizzlygalore Once again you act like you were there.Once again the same reply.....you were not but Proby WAS! If you & a few other pea brains don't believe what happened it's too bad! 99.9% of us do!

  • Dreadful.

The Beatles didn't really like his music, did they?

  • @yowzephyr They did! They even gave him one of their songs: That Means A Lot.

  • @yowzephyr

In the 30Jun65 KRLA Beat Proby said "I'm the greatest". Paul McCartney replied, "He's fantastic. He really believes he's the greatest. We must tell him sometime". Is there a hint of sarcasm in there? The Beatles gave him "That Means a Lot" after dropping their version from the Help! soundtrack. McCartney later said it was one of a few songs they weren't keen on. Proby's success with it fell far short of Beatles' giveaways to other artistes like "World Without Love" and "Bad to Me".

  • @grizzlygalore Oh geez! I didn't know McCartney wrote "World Without Love". Damn.

No wonder I like that song so much.

  • @grizzlygalore Paul was not P.J.'s favourite Beatle.John Lennon was because he & P.J. were of similar character. They went out on the town a lot together much to Cynthia's dismay. She liked P.J. but considered him a bad influence on John. "That Means A Lot " was just too unusual to be a monster hit. The Beatles couldn't make a decent version of it so P.J. got it with George Martin producing.

  • @rontenn You think PJ Proby's character is similar to John Lennon's? A night on the town in 1964 is hardly an indication of shared character traits. Proby caroused with anybody who would pay the bill.

Naturally he says he prefers Lennon over McCartney. Lennon is dead like all of Proby's celebrity friends are. Dead friends are useful. They don't tell the press they wouldn't be caught dead with him.

  • @grizzlygalore Once more you are showing your ignorance!! it's a well known fact that Lennon & Proby hit the town many times together. When Lennon started doing meditation & drugs is when the friendship ended. Talking about DEAD! I think you are brain DEAD!

  • @rontenn Shouting rubbish about a friendship between Lennon and Proby doesn't make it a well known fact. Proby may enjoy improving his image by claiming they were soul mates but anybody else around at the time can make a similar claim can't they? Lennon isn't talking.

  • @grizzlygalore Read a book written by Tony Bramwell called "Magical Mystery Tours"(2005).He tells all about John & P.J. Tony was with The Beatles from start to finish.Paul says he knows more about them than they do themselves.Tony by the way is still alive!!

  • @rontenn Bramwell's books says "P.J. roared with laughter when he told me the details of how the evening went". Bramwell obviously wasn't there and neither was Paul. Anyone reading that book can tell Bramwell was getting his information from Proby. That is anyone except someone trying to pass if off as proof of a love match between Lennon and Proby. Everyone else should read the book and form their own opinion.

  • @grizzlygalore Bramwell would not have put in his book without checking it all out first. It seems everyone in the world is a lying b*****d in your opinion. You are a complete waste of space! I bet you don't even believe your Mom & Dad are your real ones. What a way to go through life!!

  • It's abundantly clear that P.J. was profoundly influenced by Elvis Presley, for whom P.J. did demo records early in his career.

  • @chuckiejay P.J. says it was The Beatles who influenced him the most. Elvis must have too of course.

  • Yes, the pony tail...the rest of his hair so short, I always wondered if it wasn't a clip-on at the time.

The I BELIEVE version still stuns me. It's 100% live and he sang it so effortless. And Jim Smith, looking like an angel, can you believe it?!

The quality of this clip is amazing, by the way. The versions I saw before were always fuzzy, even the one on 16mm.

  • He was sex on two legs put tom jones in the shade with his stage act, could have owned the world thats how good he was. Pity his trousers were not as good and he went into obscurity or yorkshire as we like to call it. A lesson to us all, never wear velvet trousers to work.

  • A pony tail in 1964? WOW that's bold! I never heard of PJ Proby.Seems like he shoulda been a big star.

  • Last year I checked youTube and there was little Proby, now there's pivotal performances like this! Thanks so much for posting this performance!!!!

  • actually he was a big star.

  • Bravo P.J

  • What a fantastic voice hes got! He should really have been a superstar! There are many stones that has to fall right to reach the very top. I guess he has been extremly unlucky!A fantastic artist!

  • absolutley perfect! me and my gay lover theBESTelvis bugger to this song all the time. stefan

  • I can't help myself saying that this guy is THE REAL DEAL.

Such an energetic performer is our P.J. even at 70.

  • over 44yrs later I watched this video again and today pj is still fab remembering his 70th birthday November 6th 2008 long may he continue he's my NO 1.

  • dancing girls VERY NICE

  • Fantastic, and those dancers are so great!

  • The most versatile voice I have ever heard

a great star and a legend in his life time

    NEW ZEALAND loves you PJ

  • If this clip doesn't prove that he is the greatest singer ever than please tell who would be!!!

200 years from ow people will listen to Proby and laugh at our time who didn't understand him when he still was here.

  • He is "THE" greatest singer...no question about it PJ IS THE BEST.

INCREDIBLE VOICE. HE COULD SING ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING.

  • wooOOoOOOOO I´ve never seen this part of the show around the beatles WOoOOO

    THanks for share this¡¡¡¡¡

could you put the rest please please

    peace n love love

  • Wow, I've never seen the footage of the Beatles introducing him at the beginning. This is a wild performance from this controversial singer (well, wild for 1964) and look at that ponytail! That long hair must have shocked adults. Thanks for this rare video.

  • this so called loser is brilliant.

  • That dancer looks like she just narrowly avoided tripping and falling backwards at 2:02.

  • That so called "loser" was one of the best singers around in the sixties.

  • walrus....you TOSSER,

  • You're the loser.

  • P.J. Proby. Better than the Beatles, Elvis or anyone else for that matter. THE BEST SINGER EVER, even when he's singing songs like "Walking The Dog" & "Cumberland Gap".

"I Believe" is such a lovely song and P.J. really puts his heart and soul into it.

  • you have great taste sherilyn, pj proby is the BEST EVER SINGER AND STAGE MAN.

look at my favourites list to see the lastest youtube proby footage.

  • Thanks for you comment about my good taste in music. I have always appreciated a good singer and a good song, but P.J. is better than good. For me there will never be anyone who can match him.

  • P.J. is a good singer, but he isn't better than the Beatles or Elvis. They were all different singers who sang different kinds of music.

  • There is one dancer, she looks taller than the other...that they seem to be giving more time to. And I can tell, from just looking at her...that we have fallen magically in love with each other, had we met! Or somethin' like that.

  • P.J. I great, here...but I sure wish they'd got some more shots of that one dancer!

  • Which one? There are two dancers :)

  • Next time P.J., try to do it with a little more feeling :-)!!!!

  • AMAZING... GREATEST SINGER EVER.
