Tempo is definitely too rushed at times. Music needs time to breathe, time for expression. However, Brahms' Double Concerto is a superb work. I do prefer the Oistrakh and Rostropovich version as more truer to the composer's wishes. Just my opinion folks.
Excellent, but I think Daniel is far from dreamy. He's got some head movements and facial expressions that make Yo-Yo Ma look attractive. And he doesn't always get a good grip on the C string! Grr!
The opening dialogue for the violin and 'cello is one of the greatest things Brahms wrote. It always reminds me of the solo opening from Beethoven's 'Kreutzer' sonata.
I've heard this piece many times in my life, and with all the greats of the last 50 years, but it is extremely rare to hear a duo as completely and totally in tune with eachother as these two. Musically, structurally, from intonation, sound quality and timbre, spirit if you will - this is just absolutely one wave length, from beginning to end. A stunning, and very moving performance. This kind of music making just doesn't happen all that often anymore. Thank you both.
We used to have the beginning of this movement on our answering machine... "BAA-daa dum.. - "Please leave a message after the ...BAA daa dum... and we'll get back to you after. DA DA DA..." etc. :) I thought that was kinda clever... :)
I have the same thought on muller schott. We are eager to anticipate his glorious career. I love how he employ the breathing in his playing. Although i hope that he assign to a better record label. Perhaps sophie mutter can cut him a deal with deutsche...
Wow. It's spectacular! You need to listen to all of it to make any comments about not leaving enough space for the music. It's beautifully done.

Yes...superb performance.....different from a mature all male duo....fresh, with a charming impetuousness lacking in the latter.

All artists are wonderful. And Julia, besides being a great violinist, is a pretty woman.

@goldie0800 I agree. I like the performance overall, but some parts I feel are almost glossed over with how fast they're played.

Brahms would cry if he could hear how beautiful his concerto sounded here.

I know this sounds superficial, but Daniel is so dreamy!
vp1981ad 2 years ago 16
@vp1981ad Not superficial at all. She's a knockout too! And then the way they play, on top of it all - it's what we call "the complete package."

This performance is crazy good. Should go down in history as one of the greatest Brahms Double Concerto ever played.
It goes without saying that Julia is near perfect, but Daniel Muller-Schott and the orchestra is impeccable also.
A historical epic performance.

I think the soloist are perfect but not the orchestra

I think Muller-Schott is the magic here.

Unequaled! Fischer -- petite giant of a violinist. Müller-Schott -- Rostropovich successor.
