How is this not impressive? I'm no Prius fan, but you have to remember, on the same Bonnevile flats, Top Gear brought a Corvette, a Caddy, and a Charger... The Charger (after multiple tries, lots of aerodynamic modifications, and very aired up tires), hit 140. For a Prius to hit 130 (by the looks of it, just making it more aerodynamic, nitrous, and a bit of added cooling), hitting 130, that for sure is impressive.

I don't get it. You cant put a turbo on the prius because there's not enough room and the only thing you can do is get better oil and a brilliant service. 135 bhp TOPS and the CVT transmission can only do the same time in 0-60 and speeds up to 130.

Bigger tires (as this car has) as well as I'm sure the car has had the speed limiter taken out allows the car to hit higher speeds.

This record was set back in 2004, it's probably been beaten since then.

Depending on the year and make/model of your car, it probably doesn't go anymore then 105 as thats a pretty standard speed limiter setting.

HOWEVER, that being said, it doesn't mean that the car CAN'T go faster...just means it's limited to.

105 is a pretty high set governor, especially for a car that wasnt designed to perform. Even buicks have the governor set to 85.

My car is an 06 ss monte carlo, and i've hit 117 and couldve kept going because i was only pushing 3100 rpms in 4th and it red lines at 6000.

You were on a paved highway, they are on salt. The salt is very hard to drive on as well as getting up to speed.

There is a video from top gear where they were trying to get a vett to get up to 170 on the salt flats. I think Clarksons best was 140. Only 10mph more then thisPrius.

I have a modified prius and it has no safety on the accellerator. Exactly. In fact, my first choice was buying my Dad's TDI but he traded it before I could make arrangements and someone bought it right away. I chose the prius because it is one of few small efficient cars that I can get all the extras on. I also find it neat manipulating the drive train and such. Also, I tend to note that if someone passes me in an escalade and has 4+ people in it, they are getting more mpg per person than I am. (better emissions too.) lol
