WOW! Im in Heaven! My kind of music!! Hurdy Gurdy Merry Go Round Music!! With Freak Out Guitars! The Ultimate Spinach! My Mind is Reeling & Hip Death Godess!! I think the beatles started this Trip with 'Being For The Benifit Of Mr Kite' in 67' I also love 'The united States of America' 'The garden Of Earthly Delights' not to mention pink floyd 'See Emily Play', Pretty Things 'Defecting Grey, I COULD GO ON & ON!!!!!
I liked both of the first two lps...its kind of cheezy, but the sound they had still brings back nostalgic feelings of my youth and searching the a.m.dial for new underground music late at night...
Great band!!! i love both of there albums since i discovered them in the late 1990s,this is the best track ( i think) from there second lp. i always come back to this song at least every month!!!
I get comments on some stuff I post about how folks have looked for many years for an album or song but never have I said anything like that about a post. Most music I looked for I found and that is why I have so much. I could not remember the name of this band. I thought the Fugs may have been the group but no. I looked for this album off and on for over 40 years and this is not even the song i wanted. I just posted the song I wanted. It is not as I recall it but it has been found. Thank U.
@Topicarmno Yes -kind of an ongoing process.I'll be dead shortly-you can have my air -you will need to accomplish the great things that is your destiny .
Such a good video. Music of that era is something else, especially compared with today's music. Take a look on my channel and check out Rock Island. They are a good quality band from the 1970's.
I agree with "grayworth". This was "watery tripe" - straight from the Charles River. Orpheus was far and away the best band to come out of the Boston Sound debacle. None of the other groups even approached the standards they set.
Unlike their label stablemate Orpheus, the music of Beacon Street Union has not aged well. Bruce Arnold and Orpheus were clearly thinking ahead while the other "Boston Sound" bands were stuck in the times. It's a shame Orpheus had to be lumped in with this watery tripe.
this is cool. my dad told me that him and the singer John Lincoln Wright were from the same town in Maine and they used to hang out after gigs and such.
Good to see this band finaly show up here. Found their first album so much better though. The only track I could bother saving from "The Clown" was "May I Light Your Ciggarette"
...and when robertny says "the band", he actually means Wayne Ulaky and John Lincoln Wright because no other member recieved or deserved credit for composing this song.
goinwayback,,,you're right and everyone in the group as well as Wes made contributions to the song and the track once there was the opportunity to create the track.
Actually "robertny" that is exactly how it happened. See the March 2008 issue of Mojo magazine, which includes interviews with all the parties involved.
Always happy to correct you - even when you present no information to counter me.

Wow! You'd have to be stoned on something to endure these vocals. Certainly explains why Orpheus wil stand the test of time. Their vocal blend was rivaled only by The Beach Boys in the late '60s.

Wes Farrell, perhaps best known for "The Partridge Family", produced this song and is an uncredited songwriter. Farrell had originally wanted to sign Orpheus and got into a bidding war with rival producer Alan Lorber to ink the band. After losing out to Lorber, Farrell signed BSU and set about finding their "Can't Find The Time". As you can hear, he never found it. He became so disillusioned with the group that he didn't even protest when they were summarily dumped by MGM the following year.
Wes Farrell had nothing to do with writing Clown Died and the entire concept and instrumentation came from the band. There was a lot of influence after the Beatles recorded Sgt. Pepper and the Doors were a very influential band at the time. For trivia buffs, if memory serves, the "Clown" on the BSU cover was the "Juggler" on Strange Days" ... and the photo in both cases was Joel Brodsky. So there you go.
Remarkable! This one truly draws you in. Thanks for sharing, I love this band.

to theintruders... you're on the right track with the players Wes and Lorber but not the history...that's not at all what or how it happened.
