So is blind contour drawing supposed to train your hand-eye coordination? I drew quite a few figures using this method, and not one of them came out to be comprehensive. Is this okay for a blind contour drawing?
I'm trying to practice this for my figure drawing class but this is one of the drawing exercises I stink at! I'm more of a gesture drawer, as well as a perfectionist when it comes to my artwork, & I always get frustrated when my drawings look terrible. I become so afraid of stinking that I can't focus at all. I can't even do a blind contour of an orange
@Zistheone2 Hi! If you read the comments on this video, you can see most people think I also stink at this, rightfully so! The end product is not the point. It's supposed to look totally crazy. So just go for it. It's more a mental exercise. Hope this helps. Anna
I drew blind contours for the 1st time today, in Art Appreciation class. We did the hand and it was really hard.I'm doing simpler stuff now...it's fun!
Hi Shadowgirl. I can't imagine failing miserably, maybe you're being too hard on yourself? The reason to do this exercise is to train yourself to concentrate on really looking at what is in front of you, and trying to connect your hand/pencil to your eyes/brain, without looking down. You are succeeding if you are going very slowly, and not cheating. Maybe you're drawing to large or too small? I think the dimensions should be about 8" x 8" depending on your subject.

Thanks for the very helpful video. I promised my gf I would learn to draw so we can draw together as I have a talent for it, but never really pursued it.

I'm doing this in art class now and failing miserably. My teacher says that I think too much about placement. Any advice?
