The "guapparia" is the condition (or the fact) of being a "guappo", which means a criminal boy (also expressed in the song as "guagliune 'e malavita", which in Neapolitan means "boys of the criminal world"), usually a member of the Camorra (the local mafia). In a broader sense, "guappo" can be a boy behaving as a bully, with a semi-criminal attitude.

I've read that Villa, while a great singer, was not from Napoli, therefore was not a great singer of Neapolitan music. Are you from southern Italy? Yes, Claudio Villa was not from Naples, but you can hardly detect this while he's singing. Overall I think it is a good performance (while it's not my favorite musical genre).
I live in the North but my father is from Naples, so I can understand some Neapolitan dialect. Still, these lyrics were quite hard to translate!
@Stiannu I'm a singer/pianist in Chicago for 37 years. I like to sing Italian music and in fact I have a video on You Tube. I sing Nessun Dorma ay mu uncles 70th birthday party, 12 years ago. It's under Jopel; Barry. I studied opera for 3 years. Check it out. When working in clubs I sing and play all kinds of music, especially Sinatra, Billy Joel, Elton John, Broadway music and upon request some Bocelli, and some old Italian songs like O Sole, Surriento, etc. Rock too! Villa è un grandissimo cantante, ma qui non riesce a penetrare lo spirito della canzone. Questo è un brano molto intenso e drammatico, mentre Villa ne da una interpretazione superficiale. Le finali di ogni verso sono bruttine e il finale è orrendo
In realta' le canzoni napoletane possono solo essere interpretate da un madrelingua napoletana, qualsiasi altro cantante avrebbe fatto peggio,ascoltate la versione di Merola, e fate un confronto

Claudio Villa la stessa canzone puo cantarla differente,e questo significa maestria,qui non solo la canta in diretta ma la canta con fantasia,ed é sempre Villa perm e il reuccio.
