Even though there's no proof or anything in the movie I always inferred that Hayley's last name would actually be Mauer they do look similar and it's the only thing I could think of that would make Hayley get involved like she did plus she kept mentioning an older sister.

the filmmakers usually tend to look at the plot through the victims eyes, not the 'real' evil person. So this is quite 'fresh' and interesting to look at the unpleasant situation through Patrick's eyes who doesn't admit (even to himself) that he is actually pedophile which confuses the audience and makes the real vicious person looks like a poor victim.
The problem with this movie is that it suggests that because a person may be sexually perverted or misguided it allows vindication for them to be abused and tortured.
Pedophile or not, people are human beings. The Ellen Page character is far more villainous in this movie than he is.
@Medowin I think she was supposed to be more villainous. Towards the end of the movie he sort of admits that he killed and pursued that little girl. The way the writers developed his character was not to downplay his perversion, but to make him mentally unstable and in denial of his "condition". I think the entire point of the movie was to make him the victim and her the rapist. In figurative terms of course.

Why do I believe? Because the Bible says what is right and what is true. It presents the wisdom of God rather than that of ignorant human beings. Who would not want to believe that the world and everything in it has a purpose? Who would not want to know the Creator of the universe? And who would not want a relationship with one so kind and good?

the filmmakers usually tend to look at the plot through the victims eyes, not the 'real' evil person. So this is quite 'fresh' and interesting to look at the unpleasant situation through Patrick's eyes who doesn't admit (even to himself) that he is actually pedophile which confuses the audience and makes the real vicious person looks like a poor victim.

The way the writers developed his character was not to downplay his perversion, but to make him mentally unstable and in denial of his "condition". I don't believe the Bible has been embellished at all. If you read it, you could see that if it had been embellished, a lot of things wouldn't have been included, or would have been modified to make them a lot more "acceptable" to the critical reader.
I actually do have happiness, in the service of Jesus Christ. And while I sometimes am tempted to be fearful, so long as I follow His will I am able to continue without fear. I'm not sure why you call me "terrified".

Why do I believe? Because the Bible says what is right and what is true. It presents the wisdom of God rather than that of ignorant human beings. It doesn't paint an ideal picture, it shows the world as it really is, and how to deal with it. And I believe because there is no downside to believing. Who would not want to believe that the world and everything in it has a purpose? Who would not want to know the Creator of the universe? And who would not want a relationship with one so kind and good?

i have found from experience that agnostics are, as a whole, better people because rather than doing good for god, they do it for themselves. and they don't get involved with religion. they live for themselves and others. which means that they have no intention of doing anything bad for the sake of god either, like killing others in the name of god. which is, why, a lot of the time, people are murdered; because they believe in some other god.

No, I do it for God and for others. Of the famous 10 commandments, 4 relate to God, and 6 relate to other people. Most of the commands of God are there for the benefit of our relationships with others.

We execute murderers, but we don't execute rapists. Fact is, you have to consider more than just the amount of discomfort a person experiences when evaluating a crime. Take a person's life, and you've taken everything that person has and everything that person could have given to others.

see that's what's so unjust, people who rape need harsher punishments. the reason why the punishments aren't very harsh is because it's hard to put yourself in the shoes of a rape victim and the actual concept of rape does not sound so bad. but that's wrong. i suppose physical torture would be the worst. i mean physical torture is way worse than murder, no doubt.

The Bible doesn't say I should stone my children for doing wrong. It does, however, say that wicked children who totally rebel against their parents are worthy of stoning, and that's a good lesson for life.
The Bible says hell is for unrepentant sinners, not for those merely "different". Everybody is different, because God made us unique.
I've no idea where you got your restriction on women from, but perhaps it'd be a good thing with some women... :D

"Agnostic atheist" makes no sense. Atheist means you don't believe there is a God. Agnostic means you don't know whether is a God or not. You can't be both.
It's obvious that you do hate God, even as you claim to not believe in him.
There are two kinds of God's children: those born naturally, and those born both naturally and spiritually. When I say you are not a child of God, I mean that you have not been born spiritually, thus you do not personally know God as your father.

There are few subjects which raise such emotions in people of our society as pedophilia. Anybody can parrot the majority in denouncing it, but what good will that do? Why not look at the issue with an open mind, and see what's really going on? It's far more complex an issue than just "So-and-so is justifying pedophilia!" You haven't even defined pedophilia, and there are many definitions, ranging from innocuous to horrifying.

Sex within marriage is never wrong, regardless of the age of those involved. You can say it's wrong until you're blue in the face, but that won't make it wrong. My standard is the Bible, God's Word which is holy and right.

I wish you guys would quit your threats towards each other. I believe you can't define maturity by an age so Hraefn has a point. But you can not ignore the fact that they can't make the right choice in a decision such as sex with an older person. I live with a 14 y/o and could never see her being mature enough to do that and if you think you can honestly say you have no problem with that then that's unfortunate. As a 19 y/o, I'm still convinced I'm a 'kid' in this world.

Haruka, I understand where you're coming from, but you should know that childhood has been artificially extended in our society. There is no need for a 14 year old girl to be like a child. They are fully capable of adult reasoning at that age, if people would just treat them as adults and expect them to act like adults. OTOH, adults are fully capable of acting like children, no matter what their age. I'd like to go on record as being against the lengthening of childhood past puberty.
