  • Addie was a friend of mine for a long time and she a lovely person...and a big giggler. However, more importantly, remember that she was of the FIRST generation of Jazz singers, a whole generation before Billie Holiday amd Ella Fitzgerald. There was no older generation from whom to learn. She was hugely important!

  • In addition to what you commented she was a really innovative singer on the records she made with Duke Ellington in the 1920's. She deserves far more credit than she is given.
