Not sure if anyone said it....this is the Deen Entsminger arrangement of the song. It's published by Plymouth music. I honestly can't decide if I like the Carrington more or not...jury is still out...
this is a tradition at my high school to sing at the end of every concert. the joy it brings is so overwhelming it would bring me to tears every time. thank the lord that music such as this exists here on this earth.
Every year we sing it for graduation and at our final concert. Its always very emotional for us to sing it as graduating seniors, going out to walk that Lonesome Road.
@blondebballer24 Well, then your "chorus" was wrong. It was written by James Taylor and Don Grolnick and released in 1981 as part of the "Dad Loves His Work" album. Billy Joel is not listed as particpating in any way on this album, while Jennifer Warnes and J.D. Souther are. If you can find any ACTUAL documentation that Joel helped with this song, then post it. Otherwise, keep your rude comments to yourself and learn something.
@kavadale - I think you are refencing "The Lonesome Road" while this song is "That Lonesome Road". Two different pieces of music and Taylor and Grolnick are credited with the writing on this one.
JT cowrote this in 1981 with Don Grolnick, and performed it with his sister and brothers at John Belushi's graveside. The King's Singers version was performed in 1982 but not formally arranged until 1992 by Simon Carrington. The version heard here is probably the same group who sang with JT on Elvis Costello's Spectacle in Sep2008, and with JT on tour. Beautiful harmonies. Thanks, JT, for writing such a great piece. Thanks Simon for arranging it for the King's Singers (and the world).
1980 album Dad loves his work by James Taylor. You can find this song plus many other wonderful songs by him with his band. Arnold McCuller, Kate Markowitz, David Lasley, Valerie Carter are featured on this song. They are the usual back up for him. If you like this ...find the song "Shed a little light" Enjoy!
I've always thought it's the king's singers singing even though there are female voices but I've always known is not them. I haven't been able find who is the actual group who sings this. Any thought on where I can find this info? or does someone know?
-Might it be the king's singers with some special guests?
Great video! I absolutely loved all the wonderful representation of photographs. It really conveyed the message of the song. Thank you! Made me cried. :)
@feneco2 "the group" backing up JT on this acapella version is listed on the album as the following: (not sure they're all on that track) are arnold mcculler, davis lasley, valerie carter and kate markowitz
The acapella version is a King's Singers arrangement I think - which Taylor is using here. The choir here isn't quite as disciplined as the KS though...
Sounds nice, and uses the King Singers arrangement, certainly not the King Singers however, I know that this has been a common comment, but an important one so that people looking to hear the King singers realize that they are not getting the real deal.
It is, and that's certainly the King's Singers arrangement. Am slightly puzzled because there seem to be female voices on the recording; the King's Singers are an all-male group...
my milkshakes bring all the boys to the yard and their like. its better than yours damn right. its better than yours i can teach you. but i will have to charge
