Fireworks is meant specifically to create files that are of a size that is better for the web.

Photoshop does more - but have you seen the size of those files? Slows down download time greatly!

I knew it. But Photoshop is expensive. It's like $700 which is a total ripoff. I can't afford Photoshop. Only the rich people can. So I guess I have to stick with GIMP. It depends what would you like to do. Fireworks is much better and faster to use than Photoshop in designing web layouts

To deselect the Marquee Tool in Fireworks CS4, press: CTRL+SHIFT+A. I believe that is the shortcut for PC. (I'm using a Mac, so I'm not 100% sure on that). On a Mac, I know that to deselect the Marquee Tool in Fireworks CS4, you press: SHIFT+CMND+A.

I would advice making the background in photoshop (or pse). Because photoshop compresses (or something else) better. My yt bg is in fireworks about 5mb but when saving it in photoshop, only 240kb!

Fireworks man... my channel background is 120kb...

I've seen your background... it can be made in fireworks aroung the same file size and quality as PS... probably how you are rendering it out. Use the Export Wizard and optimize for web.

Ah! You forgot THREE things!!!!

Save it as a JPG, set the quality to anything below 90 and check that "Remove Unused Colors" is on!

I have mine at 1660x876 Px. and I screen captured EVERYTHING inside my browser. Gives me a lot more room! :)
