When I compare this passage from silent version of film "Blackmail" with its talkie equivalent, I found that Any Ondra's partner neither plays the piano nor sings in the silent version. Alfred Hitchcock may have to re-shoot some scenes with the same actors and costumes to take advantage of RCA's Photophone technology which gave sound to this film.
Just saw this movie and my mouth dropped. Hitchcock was great from the beginning. I like it better as a silent. Thank you for sharing.

I could even lip-read some of the dialogue. I'm not sure that sound added much to this, and i know that Hitch believed in "visual" story-telling.
Ondra was a classy dame. Pity she never made more films in the UK
