@Maceyoshiman Nope, you collect 6 of the chaos emeralds throughout the adventure, and when it comes to the 7th, Robotnik (EGGMAN GRRR) has his grips on that, and getting it is a completely optional thing to do, as if you beat the boss without knocking out the Emerald first, you get the normal ending, no Chaotic Space, hope that clears stuff out for ya :)
