As a Northerner, I think it's a shame that the only solution to resolve the conflict between the north and south was separation. I may be from the north, but I do wish the very best for South Sudan.

Sudan has no lingua franca. We have at least 69 living languages which are not mutually intelligible, you judge whether that's a good thing.

Arabic was the lingua franca to the educated in South Sudan. They choose English, dispite the fact Arabic is more well known, because English unlike Arabic is not a xeno tongue that we have learned to hate.
