I tried it. I love the graphics and especially how the hair and water has turned out, but there's a few problems with the avatar's face and body tools. They're not yet good enough to modify the face, avatar shape or avatar height to make them individual enough.

There are ethnic options for the face, yes, but no matter which ethnicity you choose to have, the face will always end up having somewhat similar (asian) look. Could be because of the newbie skin, though. The stare is also bit creepy.

Something that secondlife has plenty of ..Dont get me wrong I love secondlife but lets face it ..most of the ppl who spend time there are trying to use it a secondary tool for dating/sex . And lets not forget how Linden Labs overcharges for every thing :(...and the NOW grid wide mesh

This game runs on CryEngine2 that's why it's so cool looking, I actually haven't heard of it until I was researching for a max 2011 exporter for crysis and heard of the bluemars dudes having it XD

This game has no market place! Why would somebody invest the hundreds of hours necessary to make items if they couldn't make any kind of profit off of it? Outside of experimenting with the tools, nobody is going to invest the time truly necessary to make this game shine. They dropped the ball bigtime, by not including a revenue stream, both for themselves, and their supposed developers. :p

seriously yeah making your own stuff in second life rocks, using 3D objects, your own textures, sound animations, and scripting, you write your own codes for everything or just use ones you can get in world if you cant write them yourself, I hope games like this take more of the people who are only in SL to party and socialize, and fuck (drama)leaving it more open for creators and not bogging it down as much with loiterers. I think they got it right. Terraforming would include making an atmosphere like Earth's, and it would have vast amounts of water. Any landscape under a blue sky would probably look somewhat similar to our own :)

@635574 The hair in Blue Mars pretty much acts like a cloth with a texture as you can see. But a new technology has already been developed for DirectX that makes very realistic looking hair - it actually renders individual strands and that's how it also looks like.

Not having user creation content in this will be a HUGE crippling effect on Blue Mars when it comes out, because of this it will not hurt other online world programs like Second Life very much, sure the graphics are nice but with out user creation content it will just seem like just another MMO Game. . . . One thing I hope this does though is give other online world programs to step it up a bit. Maybe some day Blue Mars will have user creation content, that will be the day I join, until then...

Yes but you have to be approved, not every one that signs up to be a developer will be approved, hell most won't be approved, I have a friend that's pretty skilled and they say hes not good enough, so you have to be almost godlike skilled to be approved to become a developer or be lucky but in due time they will probably remove the requirement to apply to become a developer and just make it so any one can build from the start. Really BlueMars is just copying Second life with upgraded graphics.
