@northstarprod You got me there :) Yeah, it seems that there was a kind of evolution from catchy old riffs to more technical ones, but the genre suffers a lot from it in my view. There are lots of DM bands which I find hard to appreciate, and I play the guitar! The only band I know that managed to create an harmony between catchy and technical music is CC. Old Deicide was catchy And good, but technically, in my view, it didn´t evolve much, if any, which is sad, with all the potential they had.

Bands like Dying Fetus, CC, Aeon, Iniquity have perfected that sort of balance. So I guess I don't mind technicality or simplicity for that matter, as long as it's still somewhat compreshensible.

It´s like if you have musical education, you´ll end up appreciating more and more complicated stuff, as in classical music. In my case however, I was marked forever by the metal played in the 80´s and 90´s, like many other. That´s also one of the reasons why I find hard to appreciate most of nu metal. I limit myself, I know, but I´m geting older anyway, so, it´s life :)
