Actually its about a german girl called Nikita , and its all about the suffering that Germans had back when it was divided in to east and west , and that's why he says "just look towards the west and find a friend" and yes he's gay so he definitely wasn't the 1 who wrote the song :D

Thanks for your answer! But I think Nikita is a russian or polish lady. Maybe the model who is on the video with Elton john is a german or british lady but she tryes to seem a russian lady. It is lucky today there is only one Germany. Like me very much that country. What you think about it?
