Charles Nelson Reilly being disrespectful and somewhat racist and negative. He must not like Japanese people. That's ok, that's his opinion. Very disrespectful and rude of him. He seemed genuinely upset by it, I wonder why?
I'm a bit confused...did Charles do it on purpose? He looks rather shocked when he sees Gene actually fall or pass out...I don't think he intended to actually seriously injure him, but Gene says "that son of a bitch really hit me!" and sounds quite angry,
If you watch the whole episode, (which was just on this week 10/09) you see CNR with real concern, sits next to Gene who promptly plays in McClean's seat. Gene motions to Charles that he is ok in a friendly manner. He didn't pass out, probably didn't fight with Charles who was his good friend, and came on the next show with an elaborate bandage, reminisent of Invisible Man around his head. Much of his 'falling down' was clearly just over-the-top play acting. Gene was the best.
Betcha anything there was probably a big fight over this backstage after the taping. It took me a while to forget out what the heck was going on! I didn't know Gene was passing out, I thought he was just joking.
That look on his face was definitely a mix of shock, and restraint from getting up and whipping Charles. Only a VERY GOOD friend could get away with something like that without getting bodyslammed.
I only wish Gene would have had enough time to duck...Talk about physical comedy. :D
I think he was less upset at Chuck and more upset at McLean for taking his mic! McLean says "give me the cord". He was probably physically stunned too:one could get a mild concussion from a hit to the nose, and such will cause even the sharpest people to be out of it.
I'm sure he was upset with McLean for running with the mic. Definitely less upset at Chuck, as he knew it was not done purposely. But at least he didn't lose conciousness...that would have been a major problem.
And as much as I like Gene, he had to know he had it coming. He lost his temper (a rare display of him losing control on camera) and got into Chuck's face.

Crazy clip.
Can't believe Charles actually hit Gene.
And I did hear Gene say "Son of a bitch really hit me!" when he was falling down.

This is one of the most funniest and more memorible Match Game moments, EVHA!! But poor Gene got slapped down by Charles over "Shogun"!

As Gene was going down, you can here him mutter "son of a bitch really hit me."

CNR should learn to control his temper. My God, poor Gene.

That's true. I'm so glad he didn't get up and punch CNR in the nose. Gene's face gives me the chills.

You mean normally, or just at the end of this clip?

Just the end of the clip. :)

lol. He looked like an idiot at the end. Stop playing out the moment and just get on with the show.

I remember he also lost it when Tom Kennedy accidentally blew a puzzle on Password Plus.

Yeah, I'm so sure Gene Rayburn could bodyslam someone. :-\

Gene has a scary look on his face when he finally gets up. Was he just stunned, or was he angry too?
What surprises me is that he doesn't appear to be bleeding. It looks as if the microphone took the brunt of it (notice there's no ball at the end).

"Oriental"
Charles was such a fogey. The phrase "Oriental" was already horribly dated by this time.
